The Choice Is Ours: Every Decision Has an Outcome
()
About this ebook
Our religions have gotten us only so far. The religion of Hell, fire, and brimstone, is no longer serving us. It is time we started being honest with ourselves about what we really believe, and how we act. The way we treat one another is the measure of our consciousness. Even with having religions, we have been as cruel as we can possibly be to each otherphysically, mentally, and emotionally, and there is no more evil that we can do. We have done it all. To improve further, we need to evolve to a new level in our spirituality---one of love and compassion.
This book is a call for us to take our power back, to mature as a society, and to develop compassion and tolerance for one another. Having compassion is the only way we will be able to make things better for ourselves.
Larry B. Thrall
Larry has always been curious about how things work, including people and society. In his early adult years he started studying why people think the way they do. “It is a never ending study” he says. “That’s what makes it so interesting.” In his early life, Larry first lived in rural Missouri, then Tennessee. In his teenage years, his family moved to Florida. And except for a seven-year period “trying out Wyoming” as he calls it, he still lives in Florida. He says he has to live in a tropical climate with the ocean close by. He is a retired Respiratory Therapist. In the mid 90s, he took a class on how to open one’s mind to an unlimited way of thinking. It was then that he started developing different ideas about who we are as a people. He realized we were blaming everything on “them”—the government for our misery, the manufacturing corporations for polluting our environment, the real estate developers for destroying our environment, etc., etc. But he realized we were the ones that made up the government, we were the ones that wanted to use the products of the manufacturers, and we were the ones living where the developers developed. He realized it was “us” just as much as it was “them” that constituted the problem. He was thinking about writing an article about it. But when the ideas just kept coming, it turned into a book. “Getting the ideas down on paper was the easy part”, he says. Trying to get them organized into something readable was something else. Over the years he had many false starts. Then he tried to forget the whole thing, but he couldn’t. Finally, a couple years ago, he sat down and got to work, and this is the result.

The person most responsible for getting me to think outside the box
is Theresa Richardson. I will forever be grateful to her for starting me on a journey that never ends. It only gets better as it goes along.
Like others, I was watching to see what would happen on, and after, December 21, 2012. I didn’t want anything disastrous to happen, but I was a little disappointed that nothing seemed to happen. Then the following January, during meditations, I noticed that answers to personal issues I had been trying to resolve came immediately or in just a few hours, instead of the days and weeks it usually took. And the energy just felt easier. Because of what I experienced, I was quite sure something must have happened. I went online to see what I could find and came across the Lee Carroll and Kryon website. The attributes of the new energy we are in now (as of 12/21/2012) that I have written about, came from him. How it is manifesting resonates with me and seems accurate in regard to what is happening.
Many of the other ideas came as the result of reading many books and attending seminars over the years. However, most of what I have written about the need for society to rise above itself is my own thoughts and ideas.
The Choice Is Ours
There we are, standing in the rain; wet, cold, and miserable. We are hoping someone will come along and make everything better for us. That they will make the rain go away and give us just the right amount of sun, the right amount of clouds, and the right amount of rain. But nobody does. So we just keep standing there till we come down with pneumonia, which forces us to make a decision. But now that we are in crisis, we make such a quick decision; it is not the best one, we just put up an umbrella which doesn’t solve the problem. We have known all along that we, ourselves, could change the situation anytime. We could make it stop raining and make the sun come out right now. But if we did that, we think, what if it is too hot? What if it is too bright? What if it makes our crops dry out, and we have nothing to eat? What if it makes our reservoirs dry up and we have no water to drink? What if, what if, what if. We stand there wet and miserable, too afraid to change. Secure in our knowing that we, at least, will stay miserable in the cold, wet rain.
So what if it is too hot and too bright? Decisions are not cast in stone. We could choose to make clouds so the sun is not so hot and bright. So what if we see our crops start drying up and our reservoirs starting to diminish? We could choose to make the clouds give us the appropriate amount of rain. Knowing everything is the result of the decisions we make, or don’t make, we could always choose something different. But no. We continue standing there in our misery, afraid to change. Waiting for someone else to make it better for us so we don’t have to change. But no one else can make it better for us. It is something we have to do ourselves. By just standing there, we won’t make any new errors, but it won’t get any better either.
It is no longer about what they
can do for us. For our day-to-day well-being, they
are our government. For our spiritual needs, they
are our religious organizations. And for our social status, they
are the advertising departments of our corporations. It is about what we, as society, can do for ourselves.
Introduction
When we look around and actually see how we are as a society, we need to ask ourselves: is this the way we really want to live? If it isn’t, why are we just wallowing in our collective misery? We have free will, and we can have whatever kind of society we want. Are we not yet miserable enough? Or, are we just so afraid of change that we are afraid to move? No one is making us live this way, and no one but ourselves is stopping us from a better way of living. We are not predestined to have a society based on fear and greed. There is no reason why we can’t have a society based on love and compassion. Rather than living a life of drudgery and struggle, we could be on an exciting journey that just keeps getting better and better. Isn’t that what we want—for it to get better.
There are many good things about our society and our government. The United States is one of the best countries on the planet in which to live. But there is still much room for improvement. And to improve our lives even more, it is the not-so-good things that we need to do something about. How can they be fixed if we don’t identify them? As it is now, for the most part, we are doing nothing but complaining about them, because to fix everything seems too huge a task.
However, we can do something about our situation if we choose to. By breaking down the things we don’t like into smaller issues, we can start clearing up the big issues. In order for us to change anything, though, we need to take back our power, start thinking for ourselves, and stop fooling ourselves about what we are being told. Believing without thinking is not serving us very well.
I am not saying things in this book just for the sake of bashing the government, religions, or any other organization. I am only identifying some of the ideas and practices that are not serving us. I offer an alternative as well.
Nothing is off limits in this book, and nothing should be for any of us. Everything from religion to politics to the way we do business should not be held so sacred that we cannot question it. We were given the intelligence and the power to think and reason for ourselves, but we have slipped into an
