    Preface

This true story is going to enlighten you about how God will work through you in many ways and about how He trains and directs and even speaks to you in an audible voice. Some parts of this story will shock you but ultimately open your eyes as to how God can do His work through you, an ordinary human being who has been touched by God! There are sections in this book with great humor as well as stories of death to eternal life. I hope you read it with an open mind about what God will have for you after you submit. May these chapters bless and inspire you to be a witness for Christ.

    CHAPTER 1

    Childhood Wonderment of God!

A s a young boy, I always knew there was a God. My thoughts would lead me to the beauty of the plants, the wisdom of the animals, the glory in the flower, and how it would bloom and then develop its seed after pollination. I marveled at our Hereford calves when they were born and how the mother cow cared for them—all God’s work.

When I was about seven, I was mowing hay with our WD-Allis Chalmers tractor. It had a wide front end and handled very nicely. As I would go to each corner of the forty-acre plot, I would raise the sickle bar, make my turn, and start the cut on the next end of the block. I had to drop the bar at just the right time and start cutting without clogging the mower.

One day it clouded up and acted like a good Nebraska squall; however, it quickly cleared, and rays of sunlight shone through the dark clouds. I looked up, and in the lit area above me, I saw what appeared to be praying hands! I was pretty much transfixed on that scene and veered off my cutting path. I stopped and shut off the PTO to unplug the freshly cut hay from the bar, continuously looking up at the praying hands. Then after what seemed like a long time, the clouds darkened, and the rays of light disappeared. The hands were gone, forever implanted in my brain as a distinct sign from God, my Creator.

About four days later I was raking the hay I had cut. I drove our little H John Deere tractor, pulling the single rake at a good clip in about fourth gear, pop-pop-popping along. The sun was bright, and when I looked up, I saw the praying hands again. This time there were no clouds or beams of light. The hands were gold—just two distinct, folded hands in the sky! This was another sign from God. I was amazed, to say the least. What was God trying to tell me, a seven-year-old?

Soon after these experiences my mom and dad took me to church on Sunday morning and left me there. They went to visit with my grandma while I was in Sunday school. I sat all by myself through the sermon and walked to Grandma’s house, which was up the hill and about two blocks from the church.

I should mention I went to church because I had asked Mom about it. So she enrolled me in Sunday school and got me started.

An older lady named Mrs. Jensen taught us Bible stories in Sunday school class. She told us we were all sinners. I really didn’t know what that meant, but I figured that it was bad and that I was not measuring up.

There were two churches in town, one across the street from the other. The minister took turns preaching at both churches every other Sunday. I learned at a young age to guide myself and go to both services.

My dad pretty much didn’t want to attend church because his mom, Granny, was Catholic and his dad, Papa, was
