    In Africa the spider was the craftiest of all creatures, and in distant Africa’s distant time the great forefather of spiders said to his wife, It is wrong that the Lord of Words has locked up in the sky all the wonderful stories that have been told, and we cannot hear them. We should get them back from the sky god Wordy, the keeper of stories.

    Great foremother spider Arakny said, This will be a dangerous venture. Wordy is so powerful and possessive. Be careful, my husband.

    Spider began the long journey out of the forest, across the desert, and up the mountain to where Wordy lived.

    When Spider poked his head through the clouds and saw how big Wordy was in his flowing blue and white robes, he was frightened. He took a deep breath of courage, puffed his chest out, and said, Excellent Lord of Words, I have come to get the stories which you have locked away in the sky.

    Wordy roared with thunder. What makes you think you can have my treasure chest of stories, little spider? The zebra, the lion, and the elephant have tried to get my stories and have failed. Not even humans have been able to release them from my treasure chest, and here you are, an itsy-bitsy spider, thinking you can get them.
