Renee Ramsey Whitaker
Renee Ramsey Whitaker lives in North Carolina and has been an educator and counselor for thirty-three years. She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University and, for three years, she worked as a PRN therapist at a behavioral health hospital. Those years crystallized her thinking about how many people drag their unhealthy baggage behind them throughout life, while others put down the load and move on toward success. She believes that the difference between someone who is happy and healthy and someone who is not is related, or even dictated by his or her thought process. She became interested in studying the emotional guidance system which led her on a spiritual voyage. That ten-year voyage resulted in Divine Telegram, a book intended to restore faith in your source, yourself, the universe, and never-ending life.

Bibliography
Divine Telegram is dedicated to my precious family. Each of them is an essential part of my life and I treasure them. I thank Don Whitaker, Paige Piper, Jeremy Piper, Brooke Schmidly, Derrick Caudill, Cole Ramsey Piper, and Sierra Caudill. Each of them offers something unique and indispensable. Together they contribute to the well-being of our family and my peace of mind. I also honor my parents, Jim and Theresa Ramsey for building a firm and loving foundation.
Two friends helped me as gentle critics and supportive guides: Ann Kirkman and Anita Blackburn. They each offered me exactly what I needed and I thank them. Ann suggested that I consider publication. Anita was my partner in bringing this book to life. Without her technical knowledge and tireless energy, it might not have come together. Many thanks to Ann and Anita.
I also was aware of receiving Divine Telegrams throughout the years I worked on the manuscript. I thank and honor the Source of those telegrams.
Preface
I began making notes for Divine Telegram about 13 years ago. At that time, I was not writing a book but keeping notes about what I was learning. I began to have interesting spiritual experiences and made notes on those as well. Those experiences opened my mind and broadened my understanding. Often, as I reread my notes, I wondered how I had written passages that contained information that I was unaware I possessed. I do not believe that I did possess that information.
On the surface, it may seem that some of what I have written conflicts with the tenets of my early life as a cradle Episcopalian. But my experience has allowed me to integrate them rather seamlessly. I don’t claim to have a lot of answers. What I have are questions which lead me to search for possible answers. I don’t possess certitude but rather a continued search. Throughout the writing of Divine Telegram, I have continued to learn and to question. My spiritual education has vastly enriched my life. I hope others can open themselves to a similar experience and thus find some answers to the mystery of life.
Chapter 1
The Spirit World
My religions consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds.
--Albert Einstein
STEP INTO THE spirit world. There is no need to leave your earthly reality; merely rise above it. Allow a new consciousness to direct your being. Be guided by the real you, your spirit, that which is unaffected by earthly concerns and values.
I was recently at a garage to have my car worked on. The attendant at the counter greeted me kindly, took my keys, and offered me a seat. At that moment a large, striking, younger African-American woman approached the desk and received minimal courtesy. Not quite sure why, I struck up a conversation with her, commenting that it looked like she was not having her best day. She explained that she had brought in her mother’s car for repair on her way to work. I suggested that she forget how the man had spoken to her and go out and have a wonderful day in spite of it. She uttered a phrase I will never forget. Smiling, she said, I’m going to send out love no matter what I get back.
After she left, I immediately wrote down her words so that I could practice the sentiment in my own life.
As my friend Gloria used to say, I met an angel.
The woman had taught me something, not only through her words but especially through her demonstration of putting those words into action. When the student is ready the teacher will appear. That woman lived her life on a spiritual plane, despite worldly influences and negative experiences. A smile had never left her face. I had received a divine telegram.
Our thoughts and words are powerful in our lives. They direct our behavior, initiative, perceptions, judgment, and even achievements. They even determine the status of our health. We are unlikely to achieve that which we feel unworthy or unprepared to achieve. If we attribute power and influence to the words and beliefs of others about ourselves, we give them power over us. In both cases, it is we who award the power and actually choose to give it. Through our thoughts, attitudes and expectations, we speak to the universe and bring about our own realities and influence or actually determine our futures.
The woman at the garage did not choose to give power to the words and behavior of the man at the counter. She knew who she was and she knew she was worthy whether or not someone else recognized it. She functioned on a spiritual level and she did not treat him with anything but respect. When I reached out she reached back to me. She remained joy-filled. She controlled her thoughts and emotions. Because she didn’t allow the man to make her feel belittled, she had no anger or resentment. I feel confident that she did not fume on the drive to work, or cut other drivers off, or arrive at work angry and bitter. Nor did she spread negative feelings among her colleagues. She did not give away or relinquish her personal power. That woman is a mortal being who copes with the everyday challenges that we all do, but she lives her life on a spiritual plane. She is joy-filled. I sensed or felt that spirit from her in a way I
