Introduction
Why is it hard to find a job after fifty? In this book we will investigate reasons and theories of why it is difficult to find employment after fifty years of age. We will review the attitudes and perceptions of older workers. Do most people believe that older workers are an asset to their organizations? It appears that some older employees are made to feel as if their usefulness has passed them by. Some are patronized by younger staff and made to feel like outsiders in their own departments. Are older workers and prospective employees discriminated against? These and other questions will be analyzed in detail. Looking closer at the hiring process will assist in helping the prospective employee find employment. Although many factors are involved in the hiring process, we will start with the basics, such as the all-inclusive résumé. Your résumé could be telling an employer that you were fired from your last job because of age.
It is time to take responsibility for your life. Do you enjoy working alone on a project, or do you prefer having other people involved? Does working as part of a team improve your work, or does it interfere with your concentration? Do you feel self-confident when you are at work? It is time to change your life. If you are reading this book, obviously you have determined that age is a factor when searching for a job. Finding a job is never easy; however, it becomes extremely difficult at age fifty. After reading this book you will develop a plan of action that will assist you in finding employment after age fifty.
At the end of each chapter, you
