TO MY DEAREST LOVING MOTHER, LEYA,

    MY LIVING SAINT

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First and foremost, I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to the Dean, Founder, and President of the University of Metaphysics, Dr. Paul L. Masters, for giving me the opportunity to achieve a life-long goal. His personal input during my challenging journey towards a Ph.D. in Metaphysics was many times the support I needed to continue moving forward despite the obstacles and difficulties which stood before me.

I thank my wife, Polena, for her encouragement, patience and tolerance with the many inconveniences and limitations which were a constant presence during the near decade of my studies and the writing of this book.

I thank my children, Svetlana, and Michael, for their support and belief in me. My daughter especially was instrumental in the completion of this book. She gave of her time, talent and expertise. Svetlana coached me, instructed me and most importantly, encouraged me to continue writing when at times I thought I would never finish this book.

My regards to Dr. Deepak Chopra for the knowledge I acquired while attending his enlightening course In Mind, Body Medicine, and Ayurveda. It was indispensable in the broadening of my understanding of mind/body interactions.

My greatest appreciation to Sri Sathya Sai Baba for his teachings and the very few rare personal contacts he shared with me in order to help me understand and accept life as it is in its most natural and unpredictable state. I am forever indebted to him for introducing me more fully to his simple as well as profound philosophy of love for the Absolute.

My grateful acknowledgment to Dr. Dhiren Gala, for his time and personal attention, which had a great impact on my overall knowledge and understanding of the human existence and their vibrational essence through education for which I earned a diploma at the Institute of Alternative Medicine in Magnet Therapy in Bombay, India. He taught me how magnet therapy can balance, restore and heal all humans.

Most of all, I would like to thank my mother, my first teacher. She is the most beautiful soul I have ever been fortunate enough to not only meet but grow to know as my dearest friend. Throughout my life, she was the one constant presence, which encouraged me and supported me in everything I did and dreamt of doing. I am grateful to the Higher Intelligence for having granted me the gift of a perfect mother.

She taught me by example what human dedication and self-sacrifice meant. She found herself at thirty-five years of age, raising three young sons as a widow in the poverty of the former Soviet Union. She lived every day of her life for their benefit, never stopping to consider her aching muscles or torn clothes. She gave everything a mother could give to her children. But she didn’t stop there because she also gave her sons everything a teacher, mentor, advisor, and true friend would give to someone who wasn’t always the most willing to listen and learn.

It is because of her belief in a person’s obligation to continue bettering him/herself that I earned the highest diploma awarded in my field; and it is due to her instilling in me the will to never quit that I enjoy my accomplishments today. But, the most important lesson she taught was to never take my focus off of learning and striving to master being a human being in the purest sense; to get a diploma for being a righteous, honorable person of value—now that would be something to which she would raise her eyebrows and smile. I know this is a lifelong quest and I can’t thank her enough for making me understand that every other accomplishment pales in comparison.

    FOREWORD

Whether we meet Yuri Sandler in person or through the pages of this book, we soon become aware that here is a man who has lived his truths and proved their worth through his own experience. Because they have worked for him and his family, his eagerness to share such positive philosophy has resulted in another milestone of accomplishment, and I congratulate him upon this publication.

Not given to boasting, Sandler doesn’t say a great deal about himself. Yet, an account of his travels through war-torn and politically disturbed sections of the world smacks of adventure. His ingenuity in managing to work his way in the world using his knowledge and skills with carpentry and construction serves as a tribute to his faith and positive philosophy. That Yuri learned during his travels to speak five languages reveals an alert and active mind. Having reared and educated children—sometimes without the help of a mate—speaks of love, courage, persistence and character.

His cheerful attitude is outgoing proof of this positive philosophy and shows that Yuri Sandler has followed a rainbow of faith and determination that’s served to bring this book into reality.

    INTRODUCTION

I am going to make a very bold but true statement, one that is unfortunate. Most people know more about external things and situations such as their home, their career, even their pet than they know about themselves. Sounds exaggerated to you? Think about it. How much time do you spend doing things around the house, cleaning, laundering, washing dishes, changing the oil in your car, watching television, walking your dog, feeding your cat? Now, how much time do you spend quieting your mind; giving it a chance, telling it that you permit it to slow down and do nothing but remain perfectly still and silent? How much time do you take in selecting which food to eat for breakfast? Do you stop and ask yourself what nutrients you need on a particular day, at a particular hour, which will assist your body in running at its peak? Or, do you just grab what’s fastest and most convenient, blindly taking a bite, chewing them without a single thought and washing the food down with a sugar-saturated can of soda?

If you’re are honest in your answers, then it is likely that you are no longer questioning the validity of my first statement. People spend more time selecting the car they will drive which will take them down the road than deciding on the mind-set they will maintain which will take them throughout the course of their lives.

Ask yourself this question. Don’t be afraid. No one’s listening but you. Did you consciously make choices today? Did you decide the way you would think today and the way you would live? What about the types of relationships you will have with others and yourself? What about the state of your health? Did you decide you would sleep well and wake-up refreshed in the morning? Did you choose your level of energy? Did you consciously make those choices? Or did you passively choose the alternative? Was it your active decision to feel stressed and depressed, and then to take it out on your spouse, your children, and your co-workers? Did you select the number of times you catch a cold or the flu? Did you wake-up this morning and say to yourself, I know today is going to be a very difficult day for me; so, I will make every effort to get as upset as possible. What’s more, I will starve myself so that my body and mind both will be unable to cope with the difficulties I will have to face and I will poison my body with gallons of caffeine so that my nerves will twitch like epileptic wires. If you are like most people, the answer to all these questions is a resounding no.

So, let’s take this to the next logical step. What would have happen if you would wake up tomorrow morning and say to yourself, No matter what happens, I will not let it get the better of me. I will remain calm. I will not panic. I will not allow myself or anyone else to stress me out. If I should feel that someone is trying to upset me or hear a thought trying to manipulate me into becoming nervous and anxious, I will simply remove myself from the situation for five minutes and allow my mind a chance to quiet-down and rest. Furthermore, because I know today will be extra challenging, I will eat plenty of foods, which will give me energy and not weigh me down. I will drink plenty of water. And, I will breath as slowly and rhythmically as I can. Now, if you were to start your morning with these thoughts intentionally, replaying these good thoughts in your mind instead of leaping out of bed and racing into the day without preparation, do you think your experience of that day would be different?

You may wonder, Why should I have to take time to give my mind a chance to be quiet? My mind’s the one in control. It knows when it needs to slow down. It doesn’t need my permission. Right? Wrong. Your mind does need your permission. Your mind is not in control of you. You are. Without your direction and guidance, your mind will continue to rev at maximum output until it runs out of gas. That’s when you get into trouble. You create the pounding headache that threatens to rip your skull in half. What happened? Your tank ran out of gas and your engine overheated—all at the same time. All because you weren’t steering and you weren’t making decisions that only you could and should make for yourself.

This brings us to my next point: although the healer inside of you has the power to heal anything from a headache to a stomach ulcer to cancer, no one can argue that the prevention of any malady is more favorable than a cure. Who hasn’t heard this wise adage and really stopped to think of its implications? What does prevention mean and how does one go about preventing one’s own illnesses and discomforts in a reliable, proven manner? The answer to this question is simple: sensible eating habits, meditation, exercise and rest.

I’ve given you the formula to maintain great health. We will dissect the four separate components, examine them in-depth, and take steps to put them into practice. The last requirement probably seems the most difficult to you. After all, you’ve lived your life for many years in a particular fashion. You’ve established habits which make you feel comfortable not only because of their familiarity to you, but also because they remove the need to do much thinking. If, for example, someone usually comes home and pops a frozen dinner in the microwave (and, abra-ca-dabra, dinner is served), continuing to do just that eliminates the need to rack one’s brain for what to have for supper as well as what to buy at the local grocery store. It is easier to walk up and down the aisles, filling up the cart as mechanically as breathing and blinking.

These would seem like good arguments for not changing. It’s almost certain you didn’t give much thought to the way you eat and when you eat in relation to your body’s optimal health and nourishment needs, so why start thinking now? This is a question only you can answer and how you answer will determine if you continue reading this book, how much information you will extract from this book to discover who you really are and how much of it you will begin to apply. For the health of your mind, body, and soul, I certainly hope that you have reached the point in your life when you’ve decided that control belongs in your hands and you’re going to take it back. The fact that you’ve selected this book to read, even if it is one chapter, should tell you that you are already aware that something has to change. Continuing to live your life the same way isn’t working anymore, if it ever really worked at all. It’s time for a new system of living and thinking.

That is the need I hope to fill. I spent over twenty years in education and research, from New York to India to Russia, attempting to discover the formula which will ensure the power comes to and remains in my hands. I believe I’ve found it. It is simple, straightforward and requires, surprisingly, very minor adjustments if one is living the life of an average global citizen, to incorporate it into one’s life.

I commend you for the courage you’ve shown by selecting this book or any other book like it. You are obviously ready to make a positive decision to change the way your body feels and your mind thinks. If you are the only person I am able to reach and help with this book, then I am grateful to you for making the greater part of my life and my quest not only justifiable but immeasurably rewarding.

Now that we are clear on who you are and who I am, I would like to clarify something I’m not sure is entirely clear yet. This book is not about religion. It is not about a god, any god, nor does it argue on the side of believers or dis-believers of such an existence. However, it is my opinion (which I express occasionally in these pages) that there is a religion of love. By this I don’t mean love as a mere emotion or sentiment. To borrow the words of the great Dr. Deepak Chopra, I intend love to mean the ultimate Truth at the heart of creation.

The material you will encounter in the pages to come can be said to be spiritual in nature. Its essence is spirituality. However, let’s not confuse spirituality with religion. They are not the same things. Religions are the striving for and practice of spirituality. Religion is dependent on spirituality just like most every other thing physical and intangible in the world. On the cellular level, everything from the sun, the moon, and the oceans to the small atom, has its spiritual origin or essence, if you prefer. The purpose of this book is not to prove or disprove the validity of this statement. Suffice it to say that the spiritual nature of all things, including humans, animals, and that mahogany desk your aunt gave you for your birthday, all have as the core of their existence a spirituality. If you still find yourself doubting the complete credibility of this statement, don’t let it stop you from continuing to read this book. Although trusting the concept of the universe’s spirituality is important in understanding some of the material to follow, it is not crucial. And, who knows, you may find just the proof you seek somewhere in the pages to come. You can be certain that I have written this book with just someone like you in mind. I hope I have succeeded in providing enough material on the matter to make this book a mute point once you finish the final chapter. But, only you can be the judge of that. It is my sincere hope that you will give yourself an opportunity to read through the information provided in these pages with an open mind so that you can make an intelligent judgement of its value once the final page is turned. After all, what do you have to lose except misery, pain, aggravation, depression, stress, dissatisfaction, and a sense of helplessness and anxiety? Perhaps I will succeed in introducing you to the healer within and embark you on an exciting journey of self-discovery.

If I express the concepts as I perceive them, you will have begun the life-long process of becoming acquainted with and understanding your real self and all your intricate, fascinating parts.

    CHAPTER 1

    The Natural Quest

The Natural Quest: sounds like complicated, new-age lingo bearing little, if any, practical use. That’s what it sounds like, perhaps. But, that’s not what it is. I wish I could just, in a matter of a few words, explain this concept to the degree that I have come to understand it. Unfortunately, it took me well over twenty years to fully comprehend and apply it to my life; so, I am left with the belief that a few words of explanation won’t do. I am also aware that most people simply do not have the time or opportunity to invest so many years in researching anything at all, including what I call the Natural Quest. Most of us feel we don’t have enough time for a little peace and quiet. Of course, I could not expect such a sacrifice from you. Well, now there’s no need because I’ve done it for you. I have completed all the research and have invested all the time and energy. Finally, I have condensed my findings of the past two decades into this book.

We must begin in the right way and beginning right means discussing the first component of self-discovery. We will refer to this component as Vibrational Medicine. Simply put, it is the effect of vibrations (sound) on the human mind and, conversely, the human body since one of the main cornerstones of this science is the acceptance of the principle that the mind and body are inseparably interconnected (something which I will discuss in further detail later in the book).

I propose to you that through meditation, sensible eating habits, exercise, and some adjustments in typical behavior, Vibrational

Medicine will help access your inner healing potential. Once accessed, the power unleashed is so phenomenal that many times conventional forms of treatment become obsolete. By identifying and correcting imbalances within your body which are causing a particular condition and/or disease, Vibrational Medicine can isolate the source of the problem, balance the entire system, and eliminate it.

In other words, we as individuals are responsible for our own well being or lack thereof. We are depriving ourselves of a comparatively pain-free and stress-free life by not monitoring and controlling the way our minds think, the quality and quantities of foods which we permit ourselves to consume, and last, but certainly not least, the kinds of lives we choose to live. Changing only one of these life components would dramatically alter your existence and your experience of the world in which you live and of which you are indelibly a part; not to mention, your enjoyment of yourself (which, I strongly hold, is the most important part of living).

Let me ask you a question. I’m sure you’ve already realized how fond I am of questions because they force us to think of an answer. So, let me ask you this. Do you remember when you took time out of your morning, afternoon or night to stop everything and just listen—to your inner voice? Did you
