About this ebook
Bami
Storytelling has always been a passion of mine. This book is a personal and analytic reflection on the progression through different aspects of life such as education, medicine and love. As a first year Family resident in New York City, I have had a relatively unique experience that I've wanted to share for years. Being of Nigerian descent, growing up in New York, my stories connect with a broad audience.

LUIS THE BEAST
Recently a boy thought he’d defeat me at Wii
Luis drove like a beast on Mario’s streets
Fresh off of lunch, I had a bunch of time free
I’d play him, allow him to savor the lead
My character was Wario, his was Luigi
He began to talk trash that I’d crash, so bold
My response was he could not beat the common cold
Not a swell thing to tell a kid with pre-B cell ALL
It was fine, he was smiling
I plugged in his IV
We started on stage 3, Star Island
I was finding this level far too requiring
The coins I collected were no longer protected
He was schooling me good; I was powerless to upset him
I figured if he triumphed, it would be because I let him
My plan had been to lecture him, teach him a life lesson
‘Although you may lose, you have to stay proud.’
Yet I was the one being undone by a child
Against a player with way more on his plate than games
Me at 13 had no claim to complain
He was enjoying destroying a mate twice his age
Time was slowly winding on my 20 minute break
For those moments, our burdens took a backseat for both us
Me with no stethoscope
Him without machines that beeped
No feeds, no needs
No beds, nor meds
No fevers, no needles for IVs, CBCs
Most importantly, no disease
Only we playing Wii
My 20 minute break grew to an hour long escape
He won, which was great, but wait there’s a catch
No one beats me that easily; I wanted my rematch.
THEORIES (MY FIRST POEM)
The theories of someone you don’t take serious
Could be as deep as the nearest river
That’s how I feel it is
I could be something of epic proportions
And make a fortune
Or I could be nothing at all
So that’s my daily torture
Cause what I’ve got
Can’t be found if you searched through Locust Walk
It can’t be taught
Nor can it be bought
It’s something from God
Now that I know it
My only goal in life is to exploit it
Until I make some dough or enhance American culture
I feel as Americans we don’t get the chance
To hear the greatness of other races
It’s
