Barren Wasteland: A Collection of Provocative Poems
()
About this ebook
Veronica Ellen
Veronica Ellen is an aspiring young Canadian writer, whose poetry is often influenced by spiritual and philosophical matters. She began writing as a child, and was published in the Canadian Anthology of Verse in 2003 and 2004. She is planning on writing her first fiction novel this year. Believing that revenge is a dish best served with an appetizer of success and a side of in-your-face, she hopes to inspire others who are going through difficult times in their lives, and hopes that her experiences can provide some comfort to anyone who needs it. Also a student who works full time, she lives in Ontario, Canada. In her spare time she enjoys creating jewellery, meditation, and reading tarot cards. Her most inspired poetry is written when she is supposed to be sleeping, but has lines running through her mind that demand to be written down.

About the Author
A Personified Sunrise
Cold, sleepy clouds stretch up to give their good morning kiss to the Sun, who is now leisurely casting pure light in the dark dwellings of the world. The water below is still, and smooth as glass. Effortlessly, the water mirrors back to the heavens its own image of warm and magnificent light. The tiny mortals—specks of blood in the Sun’s Divine vision, glistening their truth back up to the sky. Light knows where she spreads herself, never losing contact with the droplets which think themselves invisible. Unknowing of the truth, shards hidden by darkness quiver in fear they’ve been lost. Wispy clouds drip their balmy rain upon us when they become heavy and need to purge themselves.
Closed flowers are looming patiently upon the river banks, soaking up the bright shine of day. Opening slowly, blooming rather suddenly—like children. Relief scents their breathing. Inspiring and silent, only the birds make their peeps. The mortals who fade, and most other life still sound asleep. No illusion of society could shatter this perfect paradise, for this is the world we live in and upon. No other stolen moment so Divine as the Dawn. As the sheer golden beams share translucent shimmer with the land and seas, anything is born. All possibilities have now been unleashed.
Melodious
Mirage
Bitter (All I Can Taste)
When did cold freeze me over?
How is a fool imbued with wisdom?
When did yellow and green bruises
fade into faded blue?
Why did life shape me so misconstrued?
All of my loveliness, frozen into cruel.
Immobilized by self-blame,
still sleeping with my shame.
Everything goes and changes,
my sorrows still remain.
And now I, I have a mean vein
so I’m gonna bleed my pain
from a heart colder than winter,
all I can taste is bitter.
Time finds my wounds refusing to heal,
iron pain all I know is real.
In your hands, you hold all my vows.
Your eyes leave me breathless,
Easily melting away all my defenses.
But what I believed was pure
became meaningless for you
Acrid bitterness knows no cure.
My heart is torn between
what you say and what you mean.
I can’t show you all my cards;
and while I love you truly-madly
I’m not sure who you are.
Immobilized by self-blame,
still sleeping with my shame.
Everything goes and changes,
my sorrows still remain.
And now I, I have a mean vein
so I’m gonna bleed my pain
from a heart colder than winter,
all I can taste is bitter.
Eclipse
Rain was slamming down
against the window glass.
Last time I saw your face
spoke those unspoken words
Well my heartache came to pass
Now I’m right where I belong-
out of place.
Get ready to see what my smile hides
Say goodbye to the surface light
and hello to the darkness inside
Forget every soft whisper
that ever tumbled from my lips
forget about the peace I promised
Here comes the eclipse.
I was in your arms
telling you I loved you
succumbing to your charms
I surrendered to you then
now I want to do battle
you mess me up inside
my cage is so easy to rattle
So get ready to see what my smile hides
Say goodbye to the surface light
and hello to the darkness inside
Forget every soft whisper
that ever tumbled from my lips
forget about the peace I promised
Here comes the eclipse.
I bring out the best in you
you bring out the worst in me
I want to make you bleed
while you’re loving me weak in the knees
and you love me, I hate you loving me
so good so tender
you want the war over
I want to fight you forever
So get ready to see what my smile hides
Say goodbye to the surface light
and hello to the darkness insideForget
