    Preface

    28977.jpg

This devotional is a companion guide to my book FEAR NO EVIL … by hating evil. It is a compilation of my daily thoughts on the subject of fear and how to overcome it using the word of God.

Some of these devotionals were written in my secret place while passing through the dungeons of desperation and in the crucible of conflict. They reflect the spiritual intensity I consider necessary to fight the fear fight to its successful end.

The believers’ armamentarium must be re-tooled daily to combat fear and build faith and this daily devotional serves that purpose. It is accompanied by daily prayer points designed to build your fear in God and starve your fears of man.

    Foreword

    28982.jpg

Dr. Tobe Momah addresses two of the most important issues facing the body of Christ today in his book Fear No Evil.

Evil abounds all around us, attempting to hold us paralyzed in fear. The antidote is the fear of the Lord: A holiness that abhors that which is evil and cleaves to that which is good!

Dr. Momah draws on his own personal experiences and the wisdom of God’s Word to provide insight into the two kinds of fear that exists and how they affect our lives.

Fear No Evil puts both fear and evil in their place, leaving the reader fearless in the face of sin and secure in the fear of the Lord.

    Dedication

    28986.jpg

I dedicate this book to my Relentless Sunday school group at The Assembly West Monroe, Louisiana and particularly to the leaders, Andy and Janice Varino, who allowed me to expound and espouse freely the contents of this book to their ever attentive class.

A group of persons can truly make a difference and this small group of about thirty believers motivated, strengthened, encouraged, listened and polished me off and for that I am eternally grateful.

I earnestly hope what I taught them will be validated by testimonies of God’s great grace upon their lives. Most of all I believe God for a no fear here life.

    Acknowledgment

    28990.jpg

God inspired this book. He gave the Words and allowed me to put it in print. It, however, would not have been possible without some other invaluable assets along the journey who saw value in it and spurred me on.

My colleagues at my Physician practice, Drs Poliquit, Ganj and Hammond, along side Nurse Practitioners Winston, Washington, Pope and Carter created a great enabling environment which enabled me to recognize fear as the greatest albatross to sound health in the community.

In Africa, the saying is it takes a village to raise a child. I needed a home front that was suitable for reading and writing and my wife of ten years, Rita – my quintessential queen - provided that setting. She encouraged me when I needed it and sharpened me when I was dull. She was my sounding board for many of the titles and topics herein and without her co-operation, it would have been an arduous task to finish this project.

My church, the Assembly West Monroe, Louisiana and my pastor, Shane Warren, inspired me to keep writing with their heartfelt worship, exceptional warmth and care, and the trail blazing word. These enabling surroundings helped the dream of this book become a reality. I also want to thank Andy and Janice Varino’s Sunday school class, where I shared much of the material of this book, for their rapt attention and bold encouragement.

My parents Dr and Mrs Momah continue to inspire me with their unconditional love and steadfast loyalty to my family. They have supported my outlandish projects again and again and can be relied upon for untiring camaraderie whenever I need it. My brothers and sisters - Amaka, Ada, Emeka and Nkem - were all instrumental to this book’s completion and I cannot over-emphasize the importance of their help.

Also, thanks to the best publishers in the world – West bow press – for their excellent staff and people - management skills. They were invaluable and second-to-none throughout the project.

Finally, I want to thank supporters of my ministry - Faith and Power ministries – for their ardent support and unflinching loyalty. They spurred the publishing of this book with their fervent enthusiasm and spirit when I shared portions of it at our monthly Holy Ghost Night meetings or in correspondence. May what you have made happen in my life be replenished multiple times in yours, in Jesus name, amen.

    Our Month of Miracles

    January 1

WAY TO A LIFETIME OF FEARING GOD!

I will give them one heart and one way that they may fear me (God) for ever, for the good of them and of their children after them (Jeremiah 32:39).

Until you are single eyed, you can’t fear God! Until the microcosm of your life beats at the heart beat of heaven, you can’t truly be in sync with God on the earth. Our theme verse above says that if you have one heart and walk in His(God’s) way, you will learn to fear God so much that you will leave a legacy for your children after you are gone.

The power of the fear of the Lord in the making of a Godly seed is profound. Jeremiah 32:40-41 says, if we have a single heart and fear God, He (God) will make an everlasting covenant with them (our seed so) that He (God) will not turn away from them, do them good, put His fear in their hearts that they depart not from Him (and He) will rejoice over them to do them good and plant them in this land assuredly.

Your ways and the heart with which you do it determine your fear. It’s a combination of what you think and what you do that make you fear the Lord. If you can bring your daily thoughts and activities into harmony with God’s word, it will bring you good and leave a legacy of the fear of God in your children forever.

Prayer: Lord, help us to see as you see and think as you think.

    TOOLS OF BREAKING ENEMIES (T.O.B.E)

The man that shall touch the sons of Belial must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they (the enemy) shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place (2 Samuel 23:7).

The only enemy you can consume or destroy is the enemy God fights against for you! Jesus said in John 15:5 that without me ye can do nothing and in Isaiah 41:15 God says I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth (and) thou shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff.

It is not a physical battle, but a spiritual challenge, that we face. 2 Corinthians 10:3 says, though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. Nothing changes in spiritual warfare until you invite the God of the spirits of all flesh (Numbers 27:16) in, for in Him is no failure (I Corinthians 13:8a).

Too many spiritual losses in warfare have occurred from lack of divine involvement. No preparation means no invitation to God and no invitation to God means no anointing. David speaking about Saul, after his fatal battle with the Philistines, said the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away (the shield of Saul) as though he had not been anointed with oil (2 Samuel 1:21).

Your battles are only as good as God’s involvement. You are not a victim but a victor! You can win every time but it is God which always causes us to triumph in Christ (2 Corinthians 2:14). Invite Him in, let Him alone lead you and you will become Tools Of Breaking Enemies (T.O.B.E) like my humble self.

Prayer: Lord, help us to be Tools Of Breaking Enemies (T.O.B.E).

THE MIGHTY MEN OF DAVID – URIAH (I)

The Ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing (2 Samuel 11:11).

The first in depth mention of any of David’s mighty men was Uriah. Caught between pleasure and war, Uriah chose war! He told King David in 2 Samuel 11:11, when invited home to sleep with his wife and masquerade a farce pregnancy, that He would rather sleep on the steps of the palace or in an open field than sleep with his wife.

In that statement, are three keys to why Uriah became a mighty man of David (2 Samuel 23:39). These are the Ark, his Attitude and not Asking anything of men. 1) ARK: Uriah knew where the Ark of the Covenant was and sought hard after it. He told David in 2 Samuel 11:11 that, the ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents. Only a foolish warrior steps out without the way maker, the mighty man of war and the God of all conquest.

The greatest security is not the absence of danger but the presence of God. In Psalm 74:9 the children of Israel cried unto God saying we see not our signs (and) there is no more any prophet (or any) among us that knows how long.

The reason for their loss was the absence of God’s presence. In Psalm 74:3, they had prayed the God of war to lift up His feet unto their perpetual desolations meaning they were fighting without His presence. No true mighty man goes to battle without the captain of His Hosts - Jesus – and Uriah was not an exception.

Prayer: Lord, fight for me and fight with me but never let me fight without you.

    January 4

THE MIGHTY MEN OF DAVID – URIAH (II)

The Ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing (2 Samuel 11:11)

    2) ATTITUDE: Warfare is an attitude! It lives with you in everything you do. An attitude of warfare keeps you on the watch for an attack at any time. Even after David had drugged him to drunkenness (see 2 Samuel 11:13), Uriah still refused to go down to his house because he had an attitude of warfare that was permanently on high alert.

The mental assent to war was so strong in Uriah that even when drunken to stupor by King David, his subconscious (or his attitude) still resolved to stand its guard.

Are you on guard every moment of every minute of everyday? Jesus told His three top disciples to watch and pray lest they enter into temptation (for) the spirit truly is ready but the flesh is weak (Mark 14:38).

In 1 Peter 5:8 the Bible tells us to be sober (and) vigilant because our adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour. Uriah chose to sleep at the watchtower than in a woman’s arms because he had an attitude of warfare. That is how he became one of the mighty men of David (2 Samuel 23:39).

Prayer: Lord, don’t let me prefer the comforts of this world to living the character of Christ.

    January 5

THE MIGHTY MEN OF DAVID – URIAH (III)

The Ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing (2 Samuel 11:11).

III) ASK NOT OF MEN: When David promised to send Uriah back the next day, he deterred, delayed and, eventually after a failed attempt at making him drunk, sent him back to the war front a day late.

Uriah had no dependency on man. He had a commitment to God and even if the King (David) was unfaithful to his promise, he could stand on his covenant with God nevertheless.

He (Uriah) could have been disappointed in the King or in his commander (Joab) for sending him out to harm’s way (see 2 Samuel 11:15-17) but he wasn’t because he didn’t ask anything of men!

He was given gifts, pampered, fettered and even made drunk but not because he asked for it or depended on man. He sought, first and foremost, God’s approval! It is instructive that he did all he was asked to do without asking for anything in return.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from human dependency and let me look unto you for my provision.

    January 6

    THE DANGER OF RELIGION

A certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul (1 Samuel 21:7).

A man who a few days before was detained before the Lord (1 Samuel 21:7) rose up and killed hundreds of Priests and their families with impunity (1 Samuel 22:18-19). His spiritual detention did not stop him from killing innocent women, men and children because religion is more dangerous than the worst cancer!

Jesus said in Matthew 15:6 that the religious elite of His day had made the commandment of God of none effect by their tradition. Everything supernatural is destroyed by religion; it takes away the power, presence and eventually the people of God.

Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:5 that in the last days we shall have many in the Church who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof and advised us to turn away from such.

Religion is what you preach but Christianity is what you practice. Religion is the liturgy but Christianity is the life. Religion is the espousal of ideals but Christianity is the evidence of those ideals. Doeg the Edomite is another reason why religion is dangerous.

Prayer: Lord, deliver me from religion and let me have a relationship with God through Jesus.

    THE FIRST STONE CUTS DEEPEST

Thou shall surely kill him (the idolatrous relative) and thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death and afterwards the hand of all the people and thou shall stone him with stones that he die because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God (Deuteronomy 13:9-10)

Don’t be afraid to be the first to step out in faith! The pacesetters are always persecuted; the man who invented the umbrella was stoned on the streets of London because his new invention was reflecting and confusing the carriage horses of his day. No matter what stand up for Christ! The first stone cost the parents their child’s life (according to our theme scripture above) but spurred a people to start living right. Deuteronomy 13:11 says, all Israel shall hear (of the stoning) and fear and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

What cost you a precious child or brother or sister saved a people from perdition. When you need to cast the first stone do not see only your immediate pain but the final result. Hebrews 12:2 says, for the joy that was set before Jesus, (He) endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Prayer: Lord, show the result of my reproach today as my rejoicing tomorrow.

    January 8

    THE MIDIANITE MIRACLE!

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites (and) afterward shall thou (Moses) be gathered unto thy people (Numbers 31:2).

Moses was married to a Midianitish woman – Zipporah – and they had begotten children. Her father, Jethro, was a high priest of Midian (see Exodus 3:1) and yet Moses had the audacious task, given by God just before he died, of killing his in-laws (see Numbers 31:2)!

He did not let this deter him nonetheless. He gathered a thousand men from the twelve tribes of Israel and under the leadership of Eleazer the High priest warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded, and slew all the males (including the) … five kings of Midian and Balaam the son of Beor (Numbers 31:7-8).

Like King Asa, who dethroned his own mother for witchcraft and idolatry (1 Kings 15:13), Moses did not let family get in the way of obeying God. This man, who was called the meekest man on earth by God (Numbers 12:3) exemplifies Paul’s instruction to know no man after the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:16) if we are to truly know Christ.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be alive unto the spirit and dead to the flesh.

    January 9

    GOD CAN!

The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved (and so) I(God) bear up the pillars of it (alone) (Psalm 75:3).

God doesn’t need other people’s help to enable you live a successful life. All you need is God Himself (see theme scripture above)! Jesus said in Mark 10:27 that, with men it is impossible, but not with God for with God all things are possible. He (God) is your guarantee for lifting – not man.

When you please Him, He will lift you where no one can remove you. Proverbs 10:22 says, the blessing of the LORD makes rich and He adds no sorrow with it. In Psalm 75:4b-5 the people were advised to deal not foolishly and to lift not up their horn…on high (or) speak with a stiff neck because only God can truly promote and make great.

You are only as good as God can come and move in your life!

Prayer: Lord, let me look unto you alone and let my face be lightened by your glory.

    January 10

DEALING WITH ENEMIES OF YOUR SOUL

Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul (and) let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt (Psalm 71:13).

Your enemy is not physical but an enemy of your soul! In Revelation 12:9, the Bible describes him (the enemy of our soul) as that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world. He acts as a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8) but has no real lion like attributes.

The devil’s only ammunition is the manipulation of your mind! He will hurt you more by deceiving your mind than by touching it with sickness or disease. If he can steal your peace, joy and hope it is only a matter of time before he wins the battle for your soul.

That is why, in Psalm 71:14, David said, in response to the enemies of his soul, I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. He saw hope and praise as his twin weapons against the enemies of shame, depression and fear.

That is why in Psalm 42:11, he told his soul why art thou cast down, O my soul and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God for I shall yet praise him who is the health of my countenance and my God. If you can fight the invisible enemy of your soul, you can win the war for your soul every time (2 Corinthians 10:4).

Prayer: Lord, frustrate the token of liars against me and establish your will in my life.

    January 11

    THE ANOINTING OF THE OVERTAKER

God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded (Psalm 64:7).

You cannot stop the aggressor with your silence but by shooting arrows (see theme verse above). The words of our lips are arrows, according to Psalm 64:3, and they can disorganize, paralyze and cause pandemonium in the camp of the enemy.

Isaiah 59:19 says that, when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. That standard, that God raises, is your word! There is power in your word. Ecclesiastes 8:4 says, where the word of a king is there is power and according to Revelation 1:6 we are Kings and priests unto our God.

Too many stay silent wishing for a change but eventually fail because they refused to speak. Isaiah 54:17 says every tongue that rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn (and) this is the heritage of the servants of the LORD. Don’t stand only; speak also and see your enemies scattered suddenly.

Prayer: Lord, I decree sudden scattering of my enemies in Jesus name.

    January 12

    TACKLING TOMORROW’S BATTLES

Give us help from trouble for vain is the help of man (Isaiah 60:11).

You don’t go for tomorrow’s battles without first finding God! David, before he slaughtered the Edomites asked who will bring me into the strong city (and) who will lead me into Edom? Will not thou, O God, which had cast us off go out with our armies? (Psalm 60:9-10).

David sought the help of God and came back victorious! 2 Samuel 8:14 tells us that, he put garrisons throughout all Edom and all they of Edom became David’s servants. He knew that the best equipment, the best men and the best strategies were futile without God.

Psalm 127:1 says, except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it (and) except the LORD keep the city the watchman wake but in vain. Like saint Augustine said, without God, we cannot and without us God will not.

Prayer: Lord, as the deer pants after the water brooks so let my soul pant after thee.

    January 13

    GOD - YOUR REFUGE!

Trust in him at all times ye people (and) pour out your heart before Him (for) God is a refuge for us (Psalm 62:8).

You will make Him (God) your refuge when you trust in Him at all times (see theme verse above). Through the hard times, the bad times, the rough times and the good times keep trust in Him intact! Faith is an all season story. It will bring you and all of yours under His refuge.

He (God) will be your refuge if you pour out your heart in sincerity to the all seeing eyes of a sincere God. Hebrews 4:13 says, neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. God sees all things so why hide anything from Him!

The third way to make the Lord your refuge is to speak the word! Psalm 62:7 says, in God is my salvation, my glory, the rock of my strength and (He is) my refuge. You become whatever you begin to say! In Psalm 91:2 the Psalmist says, I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress and in verse 9, he made the LORD (his) refuge (and) the most High his habitation.

The power of sincerity, speaking truth and supernatural all round all time strength births the presence of God around you like nothing else will. It is His will to be your refuge and being sincere, speaking the word of God and staying in supernatural faith will accomplish it.

Prayer: Lord, shelter me in your fortress and hide me in your refuge.

    January 14

    THE EVIL ARROWS OF SATAN

"When I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for their destruction, … So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee: and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee" (Ezekiel 5:16-17)

Evil beasts are one of the arrows of satan. All that is evil is fought and defeated on the platform of faith. The evil beasts, described as arrows of satan in Ezekiel 5:16, are demonic spirits and can possess people. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:32 that after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus.

There must be a spiritual battle against evil beasts if you want to possess your territory. Ezekiel 23:29 says I will not drive them (the enemies) out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.

The key to overcoming evil beasts is staying faith in Jesus Christ. Luke 11:22 says that "when a stronger than he (the strong man) shall come upon him, and overcome him, he takes from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divides his spoils." It is not who you tussle with but who you trust that determines the outcome.

Prayer: Lord, even when faced with inhuman cruelty help me to always respond with Christian love.

    January 15

THE PRAYER THAT STOPS THE DEVIL’S JEERS: WORSHIP

What or who you worship will determine your worth on the earth!

David was being jeered at by his enemies! They said God had forsaken him and his days were numbered but David turned around the tide. In Psalm 22:8, they called him neglected and abandoned but in verse 27 they acknowledged His God.

Psalm 22:27-28 says, all the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee for the kingdom is the LORD’s and He is the governor among the nations. Until you realize that this world is the Lord’s and He is the governor among the nations you will not stop satan’s jeers!

One of the keys David used to
