About this ebook

It is my work from when I began to write up until now, where I played with different types of poetry and settled with deep poetry expressing my raw emotion.

Author

Salisha D. Hill

I have been writing poetry since I was a freshman in high school. Writing has been something that has inspired me and helped me get through the hardest of times in my life, including depression, broken relationships, and death. The Lord has granted me this passion and I feel it is my obligation, my priority, to share my emotions to help others out there dealing with these same issues. I live with the man of my dreams, Daultin, in northern Indiana and plan on marrying him on May 26, 2014. I have a Boxer named Ellie, who is my world. Daultin and Ellie are my biggest fans. I attend college full time, with the goal of going to graduate school and becoming a mental health professional. I have a full time job, a part time job, and hope to begin writing more soon.

Dedicated to my loving fiancé, Daultin, and

including my twin sister, Saleena, who helped me edit this book.

Also, to those who have played a role in getting me

to where I am today. Lastly, to those who have been angels

and guardians in my life and the lives of others.

    A

    A Fairytale Truth

I’ll be a Sleeping Beauty without her kiss

    Aladdin without his last wish

I’ll be a Cinderella without her slipper

    Belle without her beast

I’ll be Snow White without her dwarves

Ariel without her way to shore

    I’ll be Dora without Boots

    Blue without clues

    Tom Thumb shrunk to nothing

The princess with a million peas

    Rapunzel with cancer

    Ballerina without her dancer

    A magician with no tricks

    A doctor who’s too sick

    A judge who is biased

    A person who is priced

    A singer with no talent

    A scale with no balance

Without you, I’m nothing I’m supposed to be

    I’m a lost child, I’m a small child

A concrete floor that is supposed to be tiled

I’ll be a radio with no sound

    A TV with no signal

This was never love, but it was better

I hope this won’t be my last letter

Without you I’m nothing I’m supposed to be

I’m a cup with a hole at the bottom

I’m a fairy tale without a happy ending

I’m a race of people without a language

The shoulder you leaned on is now weak

The help you so often needed, you seeked

When you were hungry, dinner was ready

A fine young gentleman who needed to be steady

Without you, I’m nothing I’m supposed to be

My mind goes blank, I can’t think

    My eyes blue, tear-filled, I can’t blink

My heart is torn open, sewn shut, will shrink

I’ll be Peter Pan without Tink

    Harry Potter without his friends

This is where it’s pressured, rules tend to bend

Thoughts begin to wander into a pretty, black hole

Then every Christmas you know you’ll get coal

Every breath you take breaks until you’re very cold

Your words slip out, you don’t mean what you say

You seek help from the One who’ll listen, you pray

You say, "I’ve lost someone dear, I’ll miss her year to year, I’ve lost all my friends, my peers,

I’m nothing I’m supposed to be, so on sheds my tears."

    A Little Girl

A little girl, about ten years old

Couldn’t tell what should have been told

She cried each night, alone and helpless

Who could help her, who could save her?

If she told, what would happen?

Would no one believe her, would she get hurt again?

Where would she go? A new place? The same? Homeless?

Again she cried, alone and helpless

A little girl, about twelve years old

Finally told what she knew she should tell

Even though her pain was so cold

She knew her life would no longer be hell

When she told, it was a shock to all

The man kicked out and hated

No longer would she have to give herself away

    She could keep
