For whoever believes in Him shall not perish.
But have everlasting life with God to cherish.
John 3:16

    In Memory of My Mother,

    Joyce Friedemann

This book is dedicated to my mother, who went to be with Jesus a few years ago. I took care of her during the last years of her life, which gave her the opportunity to hear my endless attempts at poetry. She had cancer and was in excruciating pain, but she listened patiently as I spoke in rhymes. I would go on for what must have seemed like an eternity, and after a few minutes she would usually say, That is very good, Michael, but that is enough.

I know she would be very pleased with the result of all that rhyming and would be proud of her son, just as I am proud of her and deeply love her. When I get to heaven, maybe she will listen to my poems and prayers, which are better than what she had to endure. Besides, she will have more time.

    Foreword

(He hopes that is not evident from the poems in this book.)

Michael’s venture into poetry began under most unusual and incongruous circumstances—with an unfortunate ride on the back of a truck. Traveling at about forty miles an hour, he fell off the truck
