    Notes

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to my late sister-in-law, Martha Harman, who lost her battle with cancer on October 8, 2011.

I still remember the first time I saw Martha. She was pretty, petite, and attended Wilson Junior High School with me in Detroit, Michigan. I can remember looking at her with envy and asking God, Why didn’t you make me like that? Little did I know when I first saw her, that she would someday be my sister.

We also attended Southwestern High School together where she met my older brother, Ron, whom she began dating.

And in due time, my sister she became. I have one sister and four brothers, but both my natural sister and I came to love Martha as if she were sister number three.

Martha accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior while my brother Ron was in Vietnam. She was very instrumental in Ron rededicating his life to the Lord, when he returned home.

Martha was a wonderful wife to Ron, mother to Shelly, Karen, Marti, and Tracy, mother-in-law, and last but not least, a wonderful grandmother to her nine grandchildren.

Martha and I often spoke on the phone, encouraging each other in the Lord. Phone calls turned into e-mail messages when that media became available. When I went into full-time ministry, she arranged for me to speak at the church she and Ron pastored. They also provided a place for me to stay and loaned me a car when I ministered in Michigan.

One of the fondest memories I have was being blessed to minister with Martha. We were at Life Challenge in Detroit where I was speaking and Martha attended with me. At the end of the service, the ladies formed two lines, one in front of me and one in front of Martha. These ladies had come from difficult backgrounds, but the message of the Love of God expressed in Romans 8:38-39, touched their hearts, encouraging them to come forward to pray with us. It was a great day in the Lord.

Martha has finished her race, and according to Hebrews 12:1-3, I believe she is cheering us on to finish ours.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

I am determined to win my race and worship our King of kings,
