About this ebook
Kathryn Ann Sands
Kate Sands grew up in Napa Valley California. This rural background helped to shape the woman she has become today. She says "In the little town where I grew up, we all knew each other. So, you had to live by the "Golden Rule". It was a great way to grow up." She carried this rule with her throughout her life. She says it is has served her well. This same rule shows up in her writing as the back bone for all her stories. "When writing children’s stories, I feel an obligation to bring to the story the same kind of ideals I grew up with. These ideals made into a person someone can trust, I want to convey this message to the children I touch with my words. If the kids don't trust my words, they won't read them." Today Kate once again lives in Napa Valley. After a 15 year tour of some of the country's best cities she returned to the rural life and began to write again. When she was younger she wrote folk, blues and country music but has now turned to children’s books. "Children’s books are very similar to songwriting." she explains. "Songs are just short stories with music behind them. “The good ones have a beginning, middle and an end. Just like a good book!" She lives with her four rescued dogs and works to promote the rescue other dogs. She has a larger extended family but no children of her own. "I have 11 Nephew and Nieces, when I want to spend time with the kids I borrow one or two". My mother never pressured me because she always had her hands full" Kate says with a laugh! Finally Kate's biggest love is her Ice Cream Company and her work promoting the awareness of my magic of food science in the manufacturing of ice cream and baked goods. Kate went to school at Penn State University to learn about ice cream manufacturing and discovered the amazing world of food science. Kate wanted to share her discovery with young people to help promote more children going into the food science industry which is now sorely lacking in young talent. Through her Chili Willie book series she hopes to excite at least one student to enter the field. Will you be the first?
