    Introduction

Grace is a precept that really must be studied in depth. Most people I hear talk about grace say that grace is God’s unmerited favor. This sounds good, but is it what God’s grace truly is? In order to get a true understanding of any precept, it is important to look up the definition of the word in the Hebrew and/or Greek Concordance and then review each scripture and let the scriptures define what that precept means. The word grace is mentioned 159 times in the scriptures; 37 times in the Old Testament, and 122 times in the New Testament. In this book, we are going to look only at scriptures in the New Testament. When we look up the word grace in the Greek, we will see that it is the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life. In each chapter of this book, we will see why God divinely influences our hearts and how it should be reflected in our lives.

Note: As we read through this book, when we see a word followed by ( ), the Hebrew or Greek word or definition for the English words will be located within the parentheses. For example:

Church (Christian community of members on earth)

Church is the English word and Christian community of members on earth is the Greek definition of Church.

These Hebrew and Greek definitions come from The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible.

Grace comes through / by Jesus

    1. John 1:6-18 ⁶There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. ⁸He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. ⁹That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. ¹⁰He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹He came unto his own, and his own received him not. ¹²But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: ¹³Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹⁴And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. ¹⁵John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. ¹⁶And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

In this chapter, we will not go in depth on each passage of scripture. Our main goal with these scriptures is to recognize that grace comes through/by Jesus. Verse 17 says, … grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

    2. Romans 5:1-2 ¹Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: ²By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Verses 1 and 2 say, … we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand…

    3. Romans 5:12-17 ¹²Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: ¹³(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. ¹⁴Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. ¹⁵But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. ¹⁶And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. ¹⁷For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
