About this ebook

The aim of my work is to supply a manifest for the Christian pastor, missionary, or teacher seeking to disciple other Christian workers desiring to serve the Lord more effectively. Knowing the time needed to prepare effective lessons, this work is to expedite their study time. I am not their teacher; they have the Holy Spirit for that purpose. I have grouped related Scripture in related subjects for a more complete study in relation to the text used. I have used this series over the past twenty-five years and have witnessed the effectiveness in the unity it provides in solving the difficulties encountered in most Christian assemblies. Gods Word will always work when properly applied. Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

    Recommendation:

Brother Dick Bauer has done a very thorough and exceptional job in preparing the discipleship materials contained in this book. They are excellent lessons for use in a one-on-one or small group discipleship program and I also hope to use them as an extended adult Bible class (Sunday School) series. I recommend this material to anyone who is serious about grounding your people in God’s Word and in the principles of Christian duty after salvation.

    Preface

Just to say that I have served the Lord as a Preacher of His Word for over 50 years, tells very little about my Ministry or me. My Ministry was not a call to my first Assembly, then remain there for the rest of my service. I was aware early in my Ministry that I had a calling to serve as a Pastor in the work of restoring troubled Assemblies back into fruitful, soul winning, God glorifying works. Not all these Assemblies survived their troubles, but the great majority of the works are still serving their Lord.

In 1995 heart disease made it impossible to continue to work at a secular job and Pastor. Most of the Assemblies where I had served were unable to support us and the Work so I have had to work a secular job to meet living expense, I was OK with that and the Lord did always supple our needs.

At this time I entered into a different Ministry, I was called to various Assemblies to serve as they searched for a new Pastor. It was at this time I began to see the real problem in our graduating students from our training Schools. These new Pastors expected to be called to full time as Pastor with full support. This made them unavailable to struggling Assemblies. I had struggled with this early in my Ministry, but the Lord gave me this truth. The size of the Assembly does dictate their need For a Pastor. One family, ten families or a hundred, the need is the same and the call just and needful. We must accept the call and the supply of our needs from God. We trusted and He supplied all our needs. I worked many years without support from the Assemblies I served.

I now see that the fault is that we fail to teach the truth about Christian Stewardship, as it applies to all ages and groups in our Schools, Assemblies and Families. We are all called to be stewards of God’s works. My conviction about missions is that: All should go and some should stay. All Christians should be willing to serve At the place of God’s calling. Our Assemblies are in desperate need of dedicated workers. This Series is given to this purpose. Teach the Scriptural truths about Stewardship and trust. God has Promised to bless us in that pursuit. Psa 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

IF IT IS THE WORD OF GOD,

WHAT PLACE SHOULD IT HAVE IN OUR LIFE?

IS THE BIBLE THE WORD OF GOD?

DOES THE BIBLE CLAIMS TO BE THE VERY WORD OF GOD?

IF IT IS THE WORD OF GOD, WHAT PLACE SHOULD IT HAVE IN OUR LIFE?

What the Bible is and is not.

    1.    The Bible is not a Book of philosophy, although it is very Philosophical: You as a teacher must always remember these things about the Bible. PHILOSOPHICAL. The Study of Knowledge. Syn.—Theory, Reasoned Doctrine, Explanation of phenomena.

    2.    The Bible is not a Book of Science, although all science is in Harmony with it.

    3.    The Bible is not a Book of History, although it is His-Story.

    4.    The Bible was given from God to Man for ONE purpose; Revealing Jesus Christ, the Son of God and God the Son, the only Saviour.

John 14:6: He is the Center and the Circumference. To accomplish this end, God felt to use all means of Human Communication to accomplish this tremendously important task.

Scripture references 2 Timothy 3:16-17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

    I. WHAT WE MEAN WHEN WE SAY:

THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD.

    A.    By Holy Bible;

    1.    The total collection of 66 Books commonly called the Old and the New Testaments.

    a.    Over 40 authors with one unadulterated subject.

    b.    Over 1600 years, without contradiction.

    2.    This collection of Books is Called The Holy Bible.

    B.    By Inspiration; God so controlled the writers that what they wrote did not just contain the Word of God but was the Very Word of God.

    1.    By Verbal, Plenary; This is saying that not only the Thought and Content God’s Word but the Very Words were God’s

    2.    By King James Version; Because of Verbal and Plenary inspiration, we do not believe that Two Versions that differ can Both be the inspired Word of God. Therefore we believe that the King James Version, 1611 to be the Word of God, for all matters of Faith and Practice. For English speaking people.

II. THE BIBLE CLAIMS TO BE GOD’S SPOKEN WORD.

    A.    The Bible is the Words of God.

    1.    God Said; Used 582 times. Gen. 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

2    God Spake; Used About 61 Times.

    3.    God had Spoken; Used About 57 Times.

    4.    Lord Said; Used About 1140 Times.

    5.    Lord God said; Used About 245 Times.

    6.    Lord Spake; Used About 249

    7.    Jesus Said; Used About 254 Times

THAT’S ABOUT 2006 TIMES THE BIBLE CLAMS TO BE GOD’S WORDS.

    B.    The Holy Spirit is the Author of the Word of God. PSA 119:89 Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

The Holy Spirit takes that settled and eternal Word, directs it through the minds and hands of Men to provide us His Word.

2PE 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

1PE 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

    C.    Man is the Instrument used to record the Word of God. The Word of God declares He used men to Give His Word.

MAR 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

ACT 1:16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

    D.    The Result is the Infallible, inspired, and preserved Word of God.

2PE 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

2SA 23:2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

    SO THEN BACK TO THE OPENING THREE QUESTIONS;

    1.    IS THE BIBLE: THE WORD OF GOD?

    2.    DOES THE BIBLE CLAIM TO BE THE WORD OF GOD?

I BELIEVE THAT THE ANSWERS ARE YES.

Predicated upon the yes answers, we are left to act upon the third question.

    3.    WHAT PLACE SHOULD THE BIBLE THEN HAVE IN OUR LIVES?

    SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES.

    AND IS    Psa 19:7-11; 119:97-104, 130; Jer 33:22, 32; Mic 2:7; Act 20:20, 27; 1Co 12:7; Eph 4:11-16.

THE BIBLE IS A SPIRITUAL BOOK; BECAUSE:

    A.    It came from the Infinite, to finite. Isa. 55;8-9; Rom 11:33-34;

Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Rom 11:34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counselor?

    B.    It came from the unlimited Powerful God. to limited man. Mat 28:18 ;Rom 2:4.

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

WHAT IS OUR LIFE? IT IS SO LIMITED

Jam 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Psa 39:5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

    C.    It came from a Holy God, to a sinful man. 1Pe 1:16; Lev 11:44; Amos 3:3.

    1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Lev 11:44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Lev 11:45 For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

HE IS SO HOLY AND WE ARE SO UNHOLY

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Rom 3:13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

Rom 3:14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

Rom 3:15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:

Rom 3:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:

Rom 3:17 And the way of peace have they not known:

Rom 3:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Rom 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith

to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

    Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    D.    It came from a Holy Place, to a Cursed Place. Psa 119:89; Col. 1:23.

Psa 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Psa 119:90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

    Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

    THEREFORE YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND IT LIKE OTHER WRITINGS;

    A.    Plato, Socrates, Shakespear, Ecc. 8:17; Job 11:7; Ecc. 3:11

These we can study with the natural mind, and with difficulty, get the natural meaning.

These are Natural books, and can be understood by the natural Man.

Ecc 8:17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.

Ecc 9:1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.

Job 11:7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

Job 11:8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

Job 11:9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

Ecc 3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

    B.    The Bible. 1Co 2;14; Mat 13:11; Joh 6:44-45; 8:43; 10:27-27; Joh 14:26; 1Jo 2:20.;5:20.

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Mat 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Joh 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Joh 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

1Jo 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

1Jo 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

    INTRODUCTION.

GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION!

If confusion exists, God is not the author of It.

1CO 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace,

as in all churches of the saints.

The Bible has only One Author, God the Holy Spirit.

2PE 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2PE 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Private interpretation The Holy men of old were not interpreters,

but Stenographers. They were taking dictation.

Under the direction of the Godhead, working as always, in Unity.

1JO 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only,

but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness,

    because the Spirit is truth.

1JO 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word,

and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

1JO 5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water,

and the blood: and these three agree in one.

1JO 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater:

for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

CHECK THESE SCRIPTURES WITH WHAT THE NIV GIVES.

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, these Three Agree in One Unity.

    I. ONE LORD.

EPH 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, Jesus is Lord.

    1.    The Jewish Shema—DEU 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

    2.    The Apostle Thomas—JOH 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

All those Jews considered Him as God in the Flesh. His goal was that all should be one.

    A.    The Prayer of Christ.-        All to be One.        John 17:21-22.

JOH 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

JOH 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

WE CANNOT SACRIFICE TRUTH OR PURITY IN THE NAME OF UNITY.

FALSE DOCTRINE AND TRUE DOCTRINE CAN NOT COEXIST.

    1.    False Doctrine is not Acceptable to God.

MAT 18:7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

1JUD 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

    2.    False Doctrine will mark the unbelievers.

1JO 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

    B.    The Life Of Christ.    All of One Life.    Col. 1:27

COL 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

    C.    The Doctrine of Christ.    All Agree in One.    2 John 1:9.

2JO 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

2JO 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

2JO 1:11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

    D.    The Ministry of Christ-    All are Sent.        John 20:21

JOH 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

JOH 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Point to Ponder—When did the Apostles receive the Holy Spirit?

    II. ONE FAITH: EPH 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not works, lest any man should boast.

    A.    Salvation only through Faith.                Titus 3:5

    TIT 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

COL 2:20 I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now I live in the flesh I live by the Faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. FAITH is Genitive indicating that is was received from Christ., His faith imparted to us.

    1.    Baptism is Works

    2.    Church Membership is Works.

    3.    Keeping the Law is Works.

    4.    Legalism is Works.

    B.    Salvation, not of our Will.                John 1:11-13.

JOH 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

JOH 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

    C.    Salvation is a Gift of God. Rom. 6:23

ROM 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    III. ONE BAPTISM: MAT 28:19.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,

and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

    A.    One Mode.            Immersion Mat.        3:13-17.

MAT 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

MAT 3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

MAT 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

MAT 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

MAT 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

    Is Immersion the Proper Mode?

YES, It is the ONLY Mode.

Baptizeo is a Transitive Verb, The action must be preformed on the Direct Object.

ILL.—John Baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.

    a.    John is the Subject.

    b.    Baptized is the Verb—Transitive. (Action taken on Jesus, not the water.)

    c.    Jesus is the Direct Object.

    d.    In the Jordan River is a prepositional phrase. Showing where the action was preformed.

    1.    Proper Administrator. John

    2.    Proper Reason Obedience

    3.    Proper Mode Immersion (Jesus receives the action of the verb, not the water.)(KNOWING THAT POURING OR SPRINKLING WOULD KILL THE PERSON, JESUS. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO SO.)

    4.    Proper Reward Blessing of the Lord.

    B.    One Authority        Local Church        1 Cor. 12:13.

1CO 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1CO 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.

    C.    One Qualification.        Salvation.        Acts 8:36-37.

ACT 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

ACT 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

ACT 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
