Dick grew up in Northeastern Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Michigan. At a young age he found solace in nature, especially the Rocky Mountains and the forests and lakes of northern Wisconsin. He graduated in 1983 from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine as a Physician Associate and has practiced over 30 years in Emergency Medicine and Family Practice. He recalls first meeting God in the mountains and calls Rocky Mountain National Park home, frequenting there often. He works and resides in Waco, Texas and is a member of Antioch Community Church and also spends time in Door County, Wisconsin along with his wife Gay. INTRODUCTION

Journey to the Promised Land is a compilation of private devotional journal entries written over a seven-month period. They are indeed my private journey of listening and hearing from the Lord. These words I heard being whispered in my heart by His quiet still voice. I am simply the pen and our Lord the giver of the word and the inspiration. Our God is no respecter of persons and therefore His encouraging thoughts toward me are indeed His loving and encouraging thoughts toward you as well. Our journeys are each unique, special, and individual, yet His eye is equally on each of His children. Our God does not change be it the year 5000 B.C. or 2014. He knows and understands you as no one can. He understands you better than you know yourself, for He is your creator. The incredible thing is, this creator desires intimate fellowship with the one He created. His thoughts toward you are good and wonderful and beyond what you can think or imagine. So sit, listen to Him, abide, rest in His love, and allow Him to direct your path. Abandon all to Him, your fears, your pain, your anxiety, your hopes, and your dreams and follow His trail. He will take care of you. Your life is precious to Him and indeed He loves you beyond what you can comprehend. He longs to spend time with you. Go therefore and run to Him and to the special place where you can close the door and be alone with God.

This book is secret place stuff.

There is nothing in existence that compares to an intimate relationship with God. The Psalmist describes it as green pastures and still waters. Jesus calls it a place of rest for your soul. What does it look like in real life when a person experiences the secret place? This book answers that question.

God talks to Dick Hecker. It’s an honor for me to forward this book because I so appreciate his relationship with our Heavenly Father. Anyone who has enjoyed sweet communion with Him will recognize the voice behind the words within these pages.
