About this ebook

Foundation addresses the very core of our integral being. It is the single most important thing in our lives. Our success or failure is determined by the type of foundation we have. No marriage succeeds without a solid foundation. No business lasts without a solid foundation. No country triumphs without a firm foundation. No ministry experiences a breakthrough without it. Foundation is connected to every aspect of our lives. I have seen a lot of families, businesses, Careers and ministries growing or breaking up as a result of the foundations they laid. Beloved, the purpose of this book is not just to reveal the effects of the wrong foundation we have laid but also to reveal the remedy for the broken foundation.

If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3, KJV).

This question remains the enigma that everybody needs to solve.

As you read this book, ask yourself some sincere questions regarding the problems youve had and the one you are passing through right now. Are the foundations of your marriage, business, career, spiritual life, etc., in good order? If not, my prayer for you is that as you read this book, you might find joy, peace, victory, solution and fulfilment that only the power available in the name of Jesus Christ, our ultimate Foundation brings.

    FOREWORD—(iii)

W E ALL APPRECIATE the beautiful buildings scattered all over our cities and towns but only few of us consider the quality of foundations that support them until there is a threat of collapse. My experience in Construction industry clearly shows me that the stability of the superstructure we see depends mostly on the substructure or foundation that is often invisible.

Rev. Nelson Olajide has successfully explored the importance of foundation in all areas of our life’s endeavour using the contemporary physical structure to illustrate and emphasize the spiritual dimension of building our lives, marriages, businesses, doctrine and ministry on the Rock that is Christ Jesus

    (Isa. 28:16).

The Principle of Kingdom Foundation helps us gain an understanding of the fact that the stability of a building against weather, rain, wind and earth movement depends on its foundation just as the success of all our life’s endeavours depend on what we are building upon either faulty, fake, false or good foundation. It also provides an insightful thought on the parable of the wise and foolish builders who both expended their efforts in terms of time, treasure and energy but because the foolish builder was looking for easy way out, he built his house upon the sand. His own house could not stand the test of time, it fell when the heavy rain and storm came on it

    (Matt.7: 24-29).

The author in a brilliant biblical investigation also compared and contrast lives of some Bible characters like King Saul and King David, Ithamar and Eli whose foundations were later corrupted resulting in the destruction of their kingdom and priestly ministry.

He charged every reader to re-examine his or her foundation so as to be able to stand the test, trial, temptation, suffering and storms of life.

With a great sense of balance, Rev. Olajide courageously proffers some biblical remedies for rectifying faulty life’s foundations.

Since questions help us bring to the surface what is most important, this book does just that by repeating the old question.

"If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

    (Psalm 11:3).

The author whom I know very well as a consistent servant of God and had been privileged to mentor over three decade ago has offered some spiritual insights for dealing with the challenge of building on and sustaining a solid foundation for our lives that I recommend you to consider.

    PREFACE—(iv)

T HE FOUNDATION WE choose to build upon is the source of our success or failures in life. No marriage succeeds nor business lasts without a solid foundation, equally, no country triumphs or ministry experiences breakthrough without one being laid well. They are connected to every aspect of our lives, many of us have seen family’ growing or breaking up as a direct result of the foundations they have built upon. Beloved, the purpose of this book not only reveals the effects of a wrong foundation, but, offers a remedy for such a bad foundation

"If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm 11:3 KJV)

The purpose of identifying and establishing what foundation a person is really building their life upon, ultimately reveals the enigma that so easily shrouds each of us in mystery as to who we really are! The requirement facing each of us is simple; we are all in the process of answering what appears to be the riddle of life, yet this is simply solved by the way we choose to live out our life, however, none of us can ‘live out our life’ or exist, without first deciding upon which foundation we are going to build our life upon, and, having made that decision, then embarking upon the process of building is straightforward.

We each individually will answer for the choice of foundation we have personally chosen to build upon when we ultimately give an account for our choice of foundation! Without requiring an answer at this stage, can I pose a question for you to consider? Could you tell me, at this stage of your life, what foundation you have chosen to build your life upon? Do you know you have chosen the right foundation? And, if you now believe you have made a mistake and chosen the wrong foundation, can you now change your mind and start using a different foundation?

This book is designed to enable you to answer these questions.

As you read, ask yourself sincerely regarding the problems you have experienced and the ones you are facing right now. Ask yourself; Are the foundations of my marriage; business; Career; Education and Spiritual life, are they the right choice?

If not, the obvious question to ask is: Why Not? My prayer for you my friend is that you may find the answer you seek, that you may discover joy; peace; victory and fulfilment as you discover the good foundation upon which to build, if you choose the right foundation upon which to build your life, it will stand firm when the storms come by laying the right foundation for YOUR LIFE.

    CHAPTER—1

    Defining Foundation

T HE BASIS OR groundwork of anything; the moral starting point for both society and religion; the natural or prepared ground or base on which a structure rests; the lowest division of a building, wall, bridge etc., usually of either masonry; rock; concrete or clay, and, partly or wholly below the surface of the ground is the foundation of the structure. Laying a foundation is; ‘the act of founding, setting up, establishing something or the base upon which something stands.

The foundation once laid can be referred to as the origin or root from which growth or building work begins, the starting point, the base upon which all above is built, the point of commencement, thus the beginning of everything has a foundation from which it grew. Everything that has a beginning has, therefore, a foundation upon which it was established, even and including the world in which we live.

The Scripture says: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." (Genesis 1; 1&2)

The Holy Bible clearly declares God as the creator of both the universe and this entire world. Since God is the creator, the world was made godly and everything He created was also godly until the ungodly attitude was introduced into the godly world and thereby polluted and infected His creation and thereby undermined the foundation upon which man had started to build. God, as put forward in the Holy Bible, was both the creator and provider for Adam and Eve, until the devil infected the holy relationship with a deadly virus called sin.

Ever since sin entered into man and creation, the foundational relationship set up by God for man, which man had started to build his life upon, changed, the changes manifested in many ways, including cultural and religious ideology. The foundation of God and man in harmonious fellowship had been undermined, the sinful infection caused a destructive breakdown in this special relationship between man and his maker, thus, man, began to establish his own foundation of beliefs and opinions upon which he would now build.

In Matthew chapter 7 and verse 24 in the Message Bible Jesus said; "These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock.

If you read Matthew chapter 7, verses 24 to 27 in the New King James Version, it reads as follows: 24 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.

The foundation of every building not only determines its lifespan but also its security and durability. The size of a building must correspond to the foundation that has been laid, the bigger the building the stronger the foundation. A wise construction engineer spends more time and resources on the foundation of a building than any other part of the building. Every foundation is structured to carry a specific type of building in specific geographical or demographical locations.

For example, due to the frequent earthquakes in Japan, the Japanese government invested billions of dollars on research and have developed many types of foundations, such as flexible foundations. Many of their newly constructed skyscrapers have a special foundation, these are laid using the seismic vulnerability method, naturally, anti-earthquake buildings in Japan are designed to prevent the building from collapse during an earthquake.

This technological innovation is to enhance the stability of the building against possible earthquake damage, that instead of the common rigid type of foundation we are used to, the new elastically made foundation under the seismic method allows the building to move or bend but not give way during the vibration of an earthquake and thus have minimal effect on the structure and enhance human safety.

If it takes such a great sacrifice of financial investment, materials and mental effort to construct a foundation capable of withstanding an earthquake, then this demonstrates the principles of Jesus as outlined above, stressing the importance of laying a good foundation cannot be over emphasized.

    CHAPTER—2

    Laying A Right Foundation

W HENEVER A GOOD foundation is being laid, it is not laid with the present situation in mind, but in anticipation of future consequences, remember Jesus word on laying a good foundation, He relates to your life and points out that you should be like a ‘smart carpenter’ who built his house on solid rock. The question then asks: What is the solid rock He is referring to that you should build your life on?

In Matthew chapter 7 and verses 21 to 27 in the Amplified bible we read the following:

²¹ Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. ²² Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? ²³ And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]. ²⁴ So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock. ²⁵ And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had
