I would like to dedicate this book to my brothers and sisters, as well as my parents.
I would also like to dedicate this book to, two of my many supportive teachers, Mrs. Willet, and Ms. Brockman.
Additionally I dedicate this book to my many great friends who have supported me and encouraged me to keep writing.
All of these people are very special to me. They have inspired me to do my best in everything I do and to never give up.
Without them this book wouldn’t be possible. So to them, I give special thanks.

It was a beautiful day outside, we hadn’t seen many days like this so we decided to have a picnic. We were all outside playing magic ball when we heard a terrifying scream. We all stopped and looked in the direction toward the castle; there was an explosion and more screams. I turned back to them quickly and told them to run. I knew she had returned; it was only a matter of time. I had to protect them no matter what. As they scattered into the woods I prepared myself for a battle. She burst through the doors followed by hundreds of hybrid-serpents. They were deadly creatures. She stared at me for what seemed like eternity before she attacked, and I knew I was going to die.
Chapter 1
P resent day:
It was dark, and yet I could see everything like it was daytime. I had heard rustling noise and roars. I ran. Then there were tortured screams and loud bangs and something exploded in the distance. There was no end to this misery. They wouldn’t stop. Not until I gave up. But they were crazy to think I would give up now. I turned around and walked into the middle of a war, the war between good and evil, light and dark; the age old story. Of course this time the dark and evil was succeeding. I had the upper hand, had more people, more soldiers, more creatures to fight for me. Of course I wasn’t going to give them half of what I had promised them, but that was part of battle strategy. You have to make them believe that you will stand by your cause. Of course no one ever does. And I mean ever. So when I gained power over the dimensions of course I would have to appoint a general and commanders to help me with the entire kingdom but that’s fine because either way my name would be stamped in the history books. Then I heard a tortured scream; then I realized it had come from me.
I suddenly woke up; all I knew was that it was early. I didn’t realize exactly what time it was until I looked at my alarm clock that was ringing on my nightstand. Oh no
I said. It was already 6:00 am. I had to get up now or I was going to be late for school. That’s just great. All I needed was to be tardy on my first day back. I jumped out of bed and ran over to my closet. Great no time to pick out something that matched… . but I didn’t care, I just had to hurry. So I grabbed a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt and pulled it on over my head as fast as I could. Before I left I grabbed my neck to make sure my necklace was still there. Although I have never taken it off, I stilled checked to many sure it hadn’t fallen off on its own. I ran down the stairs, grabbed an apple… . on my way out the door I yelled love you mom, I’m going to a friend’s house after school, I should be back around 7 okay?
I didn’t have time to wait for a response, I had to go. So I slammed the door shut and ran down the sidewalk.
I live about a block away from my high school so I usually walk to school, but today I had to run… it was a good thing I had taken track last year.
I got to school just as the bell rang so I ran down the hall… all the sudden I hear Mackenzie, you’re not supposed to be running in the hallway
crap. Busted
was all I could think. Just as I stopped the bell rang, crap. I was already tardy. I got my detention slip from the teacher who had caught me running in the hall. Went to class and as soon as I walked through the door I had another detention slip shoved in my face. This was going to be a long day.
Chapter 2
A fter class my teachers Mr. burrow said Mackenzie, I would like to have a word with you please.
I turned to Britt and all I could say was crap
she laughed and said she’d save me a seat in our next class. We have 5 of 7 classes together. As the last student left the classroom Mr. Burrow started talking Mackenzie this is getting to be a regular thing with you, I don’t like to give you detention but you leave me with no choice.
This was a typical speech I got from my teachers; I’ve already had this talk with four of my other ones. Since I already knew how this would turn out I said I know Mr. Burrow I try my hardest to get here on time, but lately I haven’t been getting very much sleep. I’m really sorry for being late, I’ll try my very best to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Mr. Burrow frowned deeply but said all right, and maybe you should see a doctor about you not being able to sleep.
Great, another thing I needed an appointment with the doctor for. Ugh I hate doctors’ offices. Besides I already have medicine for not being able to sleep well.
After my little talk with Mr. Burrow I ran to Mrs. Kerry’s class. I walked into her room a minute before the tardy bell rang. Thank god. I took my seat beside Brittany. We sat together in every class we had together. So I made it through 2nd period and up till 4th period I didn’t get into any trouble. But when it was time for 4th period I was tardy again but this time I just got a warning. I’ve already had about 6 warnings in this class.
Before we left to go to lunch I stopped by my locker. I put in my combination, and as I pulled my locker opened a note fell out. I bent down and picked it up. As I opened it I read:
"I’ve been watching you Mackenzie JO Delemorte’ or as your family and friends call you, Max. I know a lot about you, you have many moments when you think you’re not like everyone else. And I can assure you you’re not. In fact you are very different from your classmates, as is your mother. If you want to know more, come find me . . . I will tell you everything you need to know. I will see you very soon.
Ms. Crane"
I threw the note down on the floor and screamed. Who was Ms. Crane? How did she know all of that? Has she been watching me or something? Who else knew about this? And most importantly, what did she want?
Chapter 3
I turned to Britt in shock… . what had I just read? Was it a threat or was it some kind of promise? I didn’t care either way, if the point was to scare me it certainly worked. Brittany asked what is it? What does it say?
I bent down but stopped before I picked up the note… should I? I momentarily hesitated but I picked it up anyway. I handed the note to Brittany and she read it out loud… . when she was finished she looked as if she was a deer in the headlights. Max, do you know anyone named Ms. Crane? And what does she want?
she asked me the exact same questions I just asked myself. The sad part is I don’t know anyone with that name. Well at least I don’t think I do.
I put the note in my pocket. The Brittany and continued on our way to the cafeteria. We weren’t the most popular people in school but we had a lot of friends. As we opened the doors, Tyler and the others that sit with us waved us over. As we sat down Jake, another one of our friends asked us Where have you two been? We’re having pizza for lunch; I think most of it might be gone. So if you want a slice you better hurry.
Thanks, but I think we’re good
Brittany said as she looked at me. Yeah I’m good
I said.
After lunch me and Britt was on our way to our 5th period as she said with excitement wait a minute, that note might not be to you Max.
She was right it could have been to anyone, but the fact was, it wasn’t. Britt, can I come over to your house after school? Wait, I have to go to detention
I asked as she laughed and said That’s great cause I’ve got detention too, I mean when you wasn’t in breakfast I kind of figured that you would have it so I took the liberty of getting it too.
She was smart I had to give her that. I told her that she was amazing… . then we split up to go to our 5th period classes.
Chapter 4
W hen it was 5:00 I was so relieved. Then I remembered I had to tell Brittany about the note. Right about that time Brittany sprinted up behind me and screamed Hey you! Wait for me!
man could she be annoying sometimes. I stopped and waited for her to catch up, and then we were on our way to the student parking. I got my license this year, exactly two weeks after my birthday. I loved my car and even though it was a hand-me-down I was still excited to have one. Then again I’m not very picky. A car is a car.
When we got to Brittany’s house we went up to her room. Then I started the conversation hey uh… . do you remember that note?
I asked.
Yeah it was really creepy
