    The Lecture

All things come and go. They plodded into the lecture hall. He sat alone, a little way behind his friends. He preferred sitting alone – he learned more that way.

But he reckoned without her. The disturbance walked in. He glanced up, threw a smile and searched for his books in his bag. She made her way over.

    Anyone sitting next to you?

Nobody, He answered. The voice was stern but the words were feeble.

She edged to the seat next to his. Her skirt flapped his knees. He smelt her perfume.

    Missed me? She asked.

    What do you think?

I asked. Give me an answer, not a question.

What do you mean? he asked.

You know what I mean, she replied. You hardly say any sentences with more than seven syllables.

I do say sentences with more than seven syllables, he retorted. See, I just did.

    Oh shut up!

She smiled. He grinned and looked at the chalkboard. Her hand slid underneath the desk and touched his thigh. He jerked, and she quickly withdrew.

Sorry, she said. I wanted to feel if you were for real.

    What do you mean?

Her fingers caressed his clothing, and slid down to his thigh once more. He did not flinch.

You like it that I touch you? she asked.

You’re playing dirty games, he replied, and hoped nobody would see.

I know boys, you dream of stuff like this.

She took her hand higher. Her fingers
