FORGETTING WHAT OF WHATEVER
Where did I hear the world is your oyster
Is the world man’s oyster or pearl?
The oyster’s dirt makes the pearl
The world is your oyster
Love’s logic . . . go figure a pearl . . .
In the do-see-do of time
O.K.
The world is your oyster.
What does it mean?
. . . Go irritate it
. . . Go make a pearl
. . . Go get caught and eaten
. . . Go be a Rockefeller on a half-shell
. . . Go make something from nothing
. . . Dirt to pearl
Oh well.
Another piece of folk logic my life was bent upon.
Another grand moment of irrational alchemy.
Yet I sort of thought I got it when I heard it a long time ago.
What happened to me along the way?
I wish I still got it.
Well if the wish is the father of all thought, I wish I knew what of whatever I lost.
I say and think what of those beliefs and what of those desires.
Ephemeral. Illogical. Unreal. And, I know, they are in fact untrue.
They don’t exist under logic
, yet, why do they work?
I get it. Ideals are needed. Not because they are real but, because they are unreal. And because they disclaim themselves in each claim. They are that slushy irritant that makes the pearl. I’m beginning to see it get back there. I hear a voice, be careful what you rub against.
I start to think I don’t need much rationality here. What I need is predictability. Not designed
rationality. I know most folk tales cannot live up to their own expectations, some woggle in the logic, can’t get through to reality. But that language, tells a lot. It tells how language is really the last tool of the brain. I feel cognitive virtue might be overrated. I’ll approximate.
I’ll operate against an ideal yet to be… a dream I saw once of me as something bigger than life . . . An imperfect-perfection called an ideal. It might be just a slushy grip on this thing, but I’m not letting go.
Start with
A wish
And then the thought
And then I am.
Bingo.
They say alchemist had the skill to seed, nourish, bring to maturity desired spirits in mattered in living things. There were four-spirits they directed in this hope. Using an old kinematics, a motion between mass and bodies, made by words and deeds, they provoked a belief based on observation of the things as they were, and then willed it to be what it was to be any way. They aligned the things it-ness.
Not much of a science, helping something be what it would be, but a lot smarter than trying to talk until your blue in the face to rearrange the lily’s, if you know what I mean. It’s a false thing to think we know.
Introspective certainty is certainly false too. And then to describe me as a sum of functions, is short sighted, there’s a lot that goes on that’s not functioning. We do what we do, and as a rule, in the easiest way we can. We get back to what we want to be, do, are. We get to our it-ness. After having rubbed ourselves half raw. Ah-ha!
The oyster or the pearl.
FAMTREE2.jpgChild Within
11.20.76
Come my child and you shall see
This light inside of me
So bright in appearance
Ethereal is its being
It comes not from the land we live
For cosmic is its place
Its journey has no ending
Yet itself a common face
You see once upon a time I was a child
And my parents thought it wise
To teach me of this wisdom
So that I might reach the sky
Well I listened and I understood
But their words didn’t seem to apply
Down my road I did traverse
Walking toward my fate
Pride selfishness and the lack of love
Were the nearest to the gate
They seemed to follow my every move
And I couldn’t see why
I was so blind then I let them take me for a ride
Well I landed by some water’s edge and I took a look with in
Life was floating before my eyes
But I was standing still
There seemed to be a better way
So I opened up my soul
My blindness then eluded me
And I knew which way to go
So let me pass this on to you
Just as my parents did
To only see the light of life
You have to look within
So come my child and you shall see
This light inside of me
So bright in appearance
Ethereal is its being.
So let me pass this on to you
Just as my parents did
To only see the light of life
You have to look within
Lonely Willow
The willow is blowing and babies are crying
And Momma’s saying
It’s not time for you to
Come on home
So don’t come after me
Cuz your time ain’t yet baby
And this kingdom will wait you will see
Cuz there will I come and play
Oh yes I’ll play them a hushed melody
Upon one thousand tresses long
So tell those babies not to weep
The family tree is strong strong strong
Well Mama’s under the willow tree
So hush those little babies
Playing while her children are singing
Your times a coming you will see
So tell those babies to hush their crying eyes
And gather up all her children’s blue
Holding up their hands and making circles around you
Yeah
Well momma is playing the blues whoa
So blue up under her glowing lonely willow tree
Yeah
So there I will come and play
Whoa yes
I will play them a hushed melody
Upon one thousand tresses long
So tell those babies not to weep
The family tree is strong
Strong strong
And the willow is blowing and the babies are crying
And momma’s is saying it’s not time for you to come on home

We Were Almost There
02.01.07
There’s no one on top all set to go
We played that hand that was given
We did our best and we didn’t know
The world’s most sorrowful unrest
No one on top no rules to stop
This wheel of life you know
While doing for them what you loved
Our kill joys ways leached the soul
With clouds as friends I walked the shore
Slowly surf in my toes
Each day the ocean tossed a story away
Sea shells fell from her clothes
Two solo hands their journeys end
As surfs the metronome
Tuned my soul to a times a coming
Well Buddha bells were falling
Well Buddha bells are calling
Well lonely hearts there a falling
Where the loneliest days I’ve ever known
Lied waiting
No one on top no rules to stop
This wheel of life you know
While doing for them what you loved
Their kill joy ways leached the soul
I missed my days to visit her bed
Push concrete dreams already dead
Today tonight words sublime test
Our restlessness can wait
I walk the surf
The new dawns light
Clouds as friends that move left to right
And concrete castles tumbling down
Our sandy dreams rumbling’ round
With clouds as friends I walked the shore
Slowly surf in my toes
Each day the ocean tossed a story away
Sea shells fell from her clothes
Two solo hands their journeys end
As the surfs metronome
Tuned my soul to times a coming
Well Buddha bells were calling
Well Buddha bells were falling
Well hallow voices were calling
While the loneliest days I’ve ever known
Lied waiting
Walk the surf the new dawns light
Clouds as friends that move left to right
And concrete castles tumbling down
Sandy dreams rumbling round woa oh wao
Round
Round
Around
Stoned Black Cat
Momma
I’ll tell you mom
Don’t worry about me
I read it in a grave patch
Baby I know about them kinda places
Most people know how to fear
Haunts and sprits and dead cats
Haunts and sprits and dead cats
Haunts and sprits and dead cats
Are going where she’s a going
And they ain’t ever coming back
There’s a work amid that kind of bareness
In places most people won’t be caught
That’s what keeps them quiet do as their taught
But I’ll take my six years of this seven years of that
And blood running chill cuz
I heard this all from a stoned black cat
I tell you don’t worry about me
I read it in a grave patch written in white ash
Each face placed upon that poor women’s grave
That day she died we all died too oh man
A few boards would creak
the blood runs weak
And God there was strangeness in the air
Pale blue blushes on skin so fair
I’ve got a few words words and empty deeds I’d like to tell
I’ll take six years of this seven years of that
Blood running chill from a stone black cat
I’ll tell you baby don’t worry about me
I read it in a grave patch written in white ash
Tear Drops
Tear drops
My love is falling like a rain
Pouring pouring like teardrops
Teardrops rolling down on my face
Baby you’ve done me wrong
I can’t take it down so long
Tear drops
Falling
Love’s falling down like rain
Teardrops soft and slow
Off my face they roll
Tear drops
Falling
Falling so slow
Tears drops puddle at my feet
Love’s puddle surrounding me
Oh baby you’ve gone and taken the sun away
Don’t ask me to make any sunshine for you today
You’ve taken all the sun away
And you’ve brought me these rainy days
All these falling hard
Falling hard
Baby these tear drops
Oh baby Tear drops
Are falling
Falling hard off my face
Teardrops
Falling down my face like rain
Baby you’ve gone and taken the sun away
Don’t ask me to make any sunshine
No way!
How Can You Say No
How can you say no to a woman?
You’ve said yes to all your life
When that girl is everything
Was everything
How can you say no to that face?
Wanting to say yes
But no is best
Wanting to say yes
But knowing no is better
I place my faith
I put my heart on a bigger faith
Anything else
Anything else I would rather do
I can be here a thousand times
I can say yes a thousand times
I put my heart on a bigger faith
And I’ll grow this way not that
And I’ll blow this way not that
And I’ll place my faith on a bigger place
And I’ll wait for you to ask
Wanting to say yes but no is best
Wanting to say yes but knowing no is better
I place my faith I put my heart on a bigger faith
Anything else
Anything else I would rather do
I can be here
I can say yes a thousand times
And I place my faith
I put my heart on a bigger faith
You said yes to all your life
And I say the answer to a thousand ways
And I say its faith in a higher place
And I make the No know that it’s no
How can you say no to a woman?
You said yes all your life
When that girl is everything
Was everything
How can you say no to that face?
Wanting to say yes
But no is best
Wanting to say yes but knowing no is better
I place my faith I put my heart on a bigger faith
Anything else
Anything else I would rather do
I can be here
I can say yes a thousand times
And place my faith
I put my heart on a bigger faith
Tell My Stories
Tell my stories
Tell my riddles in rhyme
There’s a stage up in my mind
The story starts with once upon a time
The story starts
With once upon a time
Oh no one can pity me
I’ve been a dreamer dear
It will come to me
All those things I tried to be
In time I’d stand alone
From the things I did
Each guitar strum
Each sweet harmony
Not so clear not so bright all the time
From when you were born
From when you were born
It will come to me to see all those things
I tried to be
When I tell my story
In riddles and rhymes
Upon a stage
That starts with once upon a time
How far am I from when I was born?
Now?
Now are you gonna cry about that? (Thanking Merke who made me see my words when she said—"—WOW!—say that again!)
05.14.03
You ready?
I was sitting in a restaurant the other day and the news commen-hater
He says does anyone feel sorry for him
Are you gonna cry about that
And I thought I might just cry about that
I thought I might write a song that might just
Make everybody want to cry about that
I’m not sure how to sing it yet
But here it goes
And the news is teasing
Taunting me
Will this make you cry
Will we fall for that?
Oh yeah will we fall for that
A Kentucky man
Jumps through the window
He’s still gonna get his pay
But the glass slashes his jugular vein
And to his death he’ll fall
Falling hard blood pouring you’ll
Lying cold he’s dead you know
Nothing stolen but a soul
Now are you gonna cry about that?
Now are you gonna cry about that?
An Atlanta man was running hard
Busted flat cops on the wall
In one jump a head falls off
One man’s caught and cut
His head speared upon a fence
The final altar to his death
Blood rains down the drain
Now are you gonna cry about that?
Now are you gonna cry about that?
A mother cries as a baby is born one fine Christmas day
Baby X gets wrapped away up in cellophane
With yesterdays garbage Baby’s life is choked away
That baby’s life was one short breath
Baby’s gone in a one breathe day
Now are you gonna cry about that?
Now are you gonna cry about that?
Now are you gonna cry about that?
One more soldier of life is fallen
One more soldier gone
One more life damaged died unsaved and wasted
Another soul is lost not saved
But who’s counting anyway
I mean
Are you gonna cry about that?
The phone rings in 911
And a mother is on the line
I’ve killed my three boy’s today hurry come quick
They’re laying in the yard stoned to death you see
With God on my side I can do anything
Momma’s on a suicide watch
Now we’re watching her
While baby Aaron fights for life
Are you gonna cry about that?
Now are you gonna cry about that?
Now are you gonna cry about that?
And the news man taunting teasing me
And I’m seven years old again
I’m hearing it said again and again
Will you cry about that?
Cry baby, cry
Will you cry about that?
Cry cry, cry baby
Will you cry about that?
This Kinda Sound: Dead is dead
05.13.03
I’m supposed to try and sing some folk songs
But I don’t sing folk you know
People ask and I say it’s pretty clear
I don’t know what music this is
This music is singing me
But I do know Folk is a writing style that emerges in time
As the need for a sound is upon us.
And ears don’t hear this kinda sound
And Seems the heart hears this kinda strumming
When hearts forget how to hear
That’s when folk
Sounds sound clear
Folk messages simple and sweet
Like try a little harder
To think
A little more of others and a little less of me
Its simple sweetness serves the heart well
And now that’s it’s been honed so well I see how those homeys do it
How hate does it and they do it so well
Its’ rapping at my heart simple and sweet
Each poignant word so mean so deep
Cuts like a knife
Right through the heart
No blood on the victims
Death in the mind is where it starts
Yea worlds are slayed easy
Words are laid quick
Jack be nimble Jack be quick
Jack flying over the candle stick
But this ain’t no fairy tale out here
Life’s’ in the fulcrum, and hells on its way too
Those words staccato come assaulting into my heart
And I’ll offer my love it’s a shield it’s all
I got when I was born
Got when I was told
I was the most precious thing in the world you know
How my momma gave me that mighty sword
Slaying all those words like Arthur’s court
I ain’t letting my heart get crushed
By all those words like mother fuck
I’m over the need to give them space
When the game is to extinguish the human race
Each heart stomped to the core
Got a language for that
And leaders more
Heartless souls can be used so well
What the hell
What the hell
So I say humanity’s in the bough
And the cradles about to break
And who you gonna call anyway
God busters have already had their day
So they say I’m too old to be saying this stuff and I’m saying it just the same
Cause can’t fancy a life without a heart
And there are a lot of people living that way
Love’s got me smitten with starlight brightest love
And I really can’t believe in all this mother fuck hate shit
I believe in the eternal dove
Cause I don’t think we’ve come this far
To see the heart feather and tarred
Snuffing out the heart of the human race
Makes the savage words we have what a disgrace
More gruesome than altars of olden days
Cause we pull out our hearts with words
Short and flat
Saying
I don’t give a shit about this
I don’t give a shit about that
And I care which way it goes
I say Demons
