The Lion Eater - Ibrahim Guled
Contents
My story takes place in Africa.
The human mind is the most complex machine on earth, which is what my doctor told me. I started therapy today, and I remember asking my doctor, How can I get rid of bad dreams?
And his advice to me was Try writing!
He told me that writing can help me to analyze myself, and to monitor my behavior as a normal human being. So I started to write…
I still can’t believe I survived to write my story. And I can’t believe that what happened to me can happen to any other human being.
I just couldn’t hold it inside of me any much longer. And even now I’m not sure that any one will ever believe this, not without your imagination you won’t. Because life is not always what’s logic and reasonable, sometimes in life you just can’t find reason for so many things that happened or will happen in your life. And you keep thinking and asking questions, why me?
Why I didn’t have a normal life, just like all the other kids in my age?
But now I just thank God for his blessings, for sending angels to protect me, for being there with me. Because there will be no other way that I could have made it alive without him by my side.
As I grew up, I was inspired by the people around me, talked about how important it was to kill a lion at a very early age. In our village, we believe that the only way to lose fear is to face it, and at the same time make the fear itself fear you the most. Make what makes you scared fear you. I know it may sound a little hard to understand, but this is what we believe.
For some people, a lion is just an animal that lives in the jungle. But for my people, the lion was more than that; it was the only animal that killing was considered the highest achievement. The only thing that will bring the shame in to your family, or make them very proud of what you have done. No one will call you a warrior, if you are not a lion killer.
And that is why many people died trying to hunt the most fearless creature that God created in this world. And no matter how hard I try to make the reader of this book imagine the feeling of fear and thriller, still, there will be no words that can describe what I have seen and felt during my first time hunting with my father and two uncles.
My story takes place in Africa.
I was living in a village that was trying so hard to keep itself away from any civilization.
I was in the deepest black forest of Africa. I was eleven years old back then, and believe me; I still remember the conversation that took place between my father and two uncles before we walked through that very black night. There was something different about them this time, I just didn’t know what, but they were looking different. It was just like if they were preparing themselves for a war.
My father looked at
