About this ebook

WHY INVEST IN READING THIS BOOK?
Every word written in this book was specifically chosen to make you better: A better spouse: a better sibling: better member, choir, deacon, preacher, etc; better professional and certainly a better child of God. You need to deal with this subject because it is the will of God for you to be the best you can be (which is one of the subtopics of the book). Reading this book will greatly enhance your thinking ability and convince you that you can be better: But not only can be better, you are better.

In fact, it will motivate you into acknowledging that You are what you are because of what you think you are. You achieve what you achieve because you think you can achieve. You fail what you fail because you think failure and thereby fail to plan. And failing to plan is planning to fail. It will increase your awareness, capability, and motivation to always think before you act. Also, it will teach you how to apply your new found capabilities, philosophies and ideologies to everyday life. There are ten great chapters to help you think like Christ and act like God. And nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Special thanks to the theologians listed below for their support of my books over the years. Although three of these theological giants have gone on to glory to be with the Lord, let me especially acknowledge them and immortalize their memory in writ.

My beloved uncle, Reverend Doctor J. W. Henderson, a great man of God that is truly missed. Laughter is not the same. Born: March 15, 1928—December 30th, 2009.

One of my mentors and high school teacher, Reverend Doctor Stewart C. Cureton, Mr. South Carolina in the Baptist arena. Such a unique and generous spirit that will never be replaced. Born: March 24, 1930-– December 30, 2008.

Reverend Doctor Robert E. Dennis: A Conrad; friend and dearly beloved brother in Christ. Didn’t realize your shoes would be so hard to fill. You left us far too soon. Your family; friends and fellow soldiers were not ready for your departure. Born: May 27, 1942—Oct. 23, 2009.

    GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!

I miss your kinship, friendship and relationship of wisdom and encouragement!

Make sure you are not missing a truth that can save your life– Read this book! The book, "What You Don’t Know Cannot Only Hurt You, But Destroy You!" is a book designed to help the reader examine an adage of the past. The author, Dr. Stephen S. Lomax seeks to unveil the deception, so the truth can be revealed. We discover the basic truth of how we are interdependent on each other and totally dependent on God for truth and the abundant life.

    Dr. Benjamin D. Snoddy, President

Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina & Pastor of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Spartanburg, S. C.

Whoever said ignorance is bliss was dead wrong. Dr. Stephen Lomax has addressed the root causes of why society seems to gain sophistication but lose life coping skills with each passing generation. I recommend this book to anyone who is not satisfied with status quo in their lives. Young people will especially find this book helpful as they follow Solomon’s advice, who said, Let the wise listen and add to their learning (Proverbs 1: 5, NIV). May God bless your gifts as a pastor and writer, my friend.

    Rev. Randy Harling

Senior Pastor - First Baptist Church,

    Simpsonville, SC

This is another blessed book and I do mean blessed. Congratulations are in order to Reverend Doctor Stephen Samuel Lomax, our nephew. I watched him lift himself up by his boot strings. God has kept, saved and grown him tremendously in the study of God’s Word. The Scripture says, These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God (I John 5: 13, NKJV).

Your uncle, J. and the Tree of Life Baptist Church, Greenville, S. C.

    J. Willie Henderson, DD/LLD: Former Vice President of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, USA, INC.

The sacred and the secular have found a unique meeting place in What you don’t know can not only hurt you, but destroy you. In his book, Dr. Stephen Lomax is practical, thought provocative and this book is a useful tool for anyone. This book is a priceless gift for anyone in the church or business life.

Bishop Getties L. Jackson Sr. M. Div.

    New Birth Greenville

    Greenville, S.C.

Dr. Lomax emphasizes the fact that knowledge is a powerful weapon. Knowledge and understanding can advance the cost of mankind and the lack of it can negatively impact the progress of the human race. Dr. Lomax lifts up the fact that the teachings of Jesus and his church are the secrets of pure and wholesome knowledge.

    John H. Corbitt,

pastor of the Springfield Baptist church, Greenville, S. C.

Former Dean of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.

So many people today run into trouble in their lives and live in heartache because of what they do not know. They do not know God’s plan for their lives. They do not know the proper way to live life. They do not know the principles of God’s Word which will help them get the most out of life. So, they demonstrate the theme of Dr. Stephen Lomax’ book is indeed true. What you don’t know can not only hurt you, but destroy you!

However, Dr. Lomax goes a long way in educating his readers on how to live life to the fullest and how to avoid many of the problems areas that bring misery to so many people. Every person would certainly benefit from this new book.

Dr. Michael Bearden, pastor of the First Baptist Church,

    Fountain Inn, S. C.

Dr. Lomax has once again captured a truth that has held the masses of humanity in spiritual, emotional, mental, and emotional bondage since the inception of time. The adage what you don’t know won’t hurt you is in itself a distortion of truth.

When persons are not aware of something, they are called in the dark about that thing. Ignorance of truth is symbolically referred to as darkness in Scripture. Therefore, since Satan is called the ruler of darkness, it means he has legal access to the areas of ignorance in our lives, which, in turn, he deceptively manipulates against us to control us.

If a person was starving, but didn’t know that there was a $100 bill in his pocket, he could die of hunger. Too many are ‘dying’ emotionally, spiritually, economically, and mentally because they don’t know the truths that will make them free.

Thanks, Dr. Lomax for again bringing us the truth that can make us free!

Reverend Curtis Johnson, pastor of the Valley Brook Baptist church,

    Ware Place, S. C.

Dr. Stephen Lomax’s new book, entitled, What you don’t know can not only hurt you, but destroy you, is a wealth of information and inspiration. It was written with extreme care for the human spirit as well for the accuracy of Scripture. I highly recommend this book to every serious Christian, particularly those that love knowledge and the Word of God.

Dr. Robert E. Dennis, Pastor of the Cedar Grove Baptist church,

    Simpsonville, S. C.

My long time friend and brother in Christ, the Reverend Doctor Stephen Lomax has done another great work of art. His other book, entitled, Did the Devil make me do it, was a master of piece of needed information about the Devil and his plans for mankind. The wife and I truly enjoyed it. This latest book is also filled with jewels on about every needed subject that the human family deals with on a daily basis. Along with my family, go get a copy and be blessed.

Reverend Robert Chapman, pastor of the Faith in Christ Baptist church,

    Ware Place, S. C.

My friend has done it again. He has written another great work that will bless the human family. If you long for knowledge, wisdom and understanding, you must get a copy of Dr. Lomax’s latest book. What you don’t know can not only hurt you, but destroy you, carries a wealth of information from one topic to another. You will be blessed, less stressed and impressed.

Pastor Terry King, senior pastor of the Rock of Ages Baptist church

    Greenville, S. C.

Dr. Lomax’s new book is another eye-opener. He examines many of life’s dilemmas from a practical Biblical perspective and gives good examples and ideas for positive change. In these morally challenging times, this book is right on target.

    Pamela Wilson,

Atlanta Journalist and Author of Finding Soul Brothers

    Atlanta, GA.

To my friend and brother Dr. Stephen S. Lomax, congratulations on another great work!

Reverend David Gallimore, Pastor of the Rock Springs Baptist Church,

    Easley, S. C.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First and foremost, I must acknowledge God, the Father, God the Son and God, the Holy Spirit for the inspiration, courage, confidence and knowledge to write the books. If it had not been for the Lord on my side, I don’t know what I would do!

I thank God for the love, support and longevity of Mrs. Frances Delores Shaw Lomax. Your love and spiritual leadership has been tremendous down through the 38 years of marriage. Although, I’ m the one more widely known for my knowledge and teaching skills, in reality, you are the gifted teacher. In fact, I’m the one that’s truly been blessed by the exposure of your character and the opportunities to sit across from you at the dinner table of discussion: Particularly those Sunday dinners (what a cook).

May God continue to richly bless you with health and strength and longevity of life as you continue to share. Again, in the words of the songwriter, "If it had not been for you, I don’t know what I would do? Thanks so much for all you do, say and don’t say. From the depths of my heart and soul, I love you.

To my children, Africa, such a joy; Kenya, I’m so proud; Stephanie, so blessed and Jerrell, so accomplished. These are the best descriptive words that Webster has to offer, but they fall far short of the expression line of my admiration and love for you. I love you all with agape, the greatest, unlimited and non expectant love. Over the years, you made me so proud and gave me so much joy and gratification that I would not trade for all of the money at Fort Knox. Love you all and keep doing what you are doing.

To my two sons in law (Coach Todd and Major Jaron), you have added much to the Lomax family and I am proud to call you sons. Keep up the good work and may God continue bless you.

To my grand children, Stephen Samuel Lomax, II (Nuke) and Zhain Mckensie (Ms. Roux) and Zion Madison Roux, if I knew then, what I know now about what great emotions you would bring to my heart, I would have had you first (Just joking). I can’t put into words, the deep love and joy I feel just looking at you. Stay close, I want to see you regularly and participate in your lives. To the grand children of the future, I look forward to your arrival with great anticipation, expectation, appreciation and love.

To all of my brothers, Robert; James Willie, (and Dot), Joe Louis and my only remaining sister, Judy and her husband, James (Boot); thank you much for your continued love and support over the years. It meant much back then and still means much today. You are a blessing.

To all of the members of the New Life in Christ Missionary Baptist Church, words can’t express or describe the love, respect, admiration and appreciation I have for each of you. Truly we are family and God and I will never forget your commitment to righteousness in 2005 and continuance, today. The prophet Amos said, Let justice run down as waters and righteousness as a mighty stream (Amos 5: 24 KJVSV).

May heaven continue to smile upon you, your families and our church; I know I will. Remember, we stand at the door of a bright and glorious era and we must find the keys of devotion, dedication and sacrifice to open the door. But as it is written, eye have not seen and ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that Love him (I Cor 2: 9 KJV).

Additional appreciation and thanks to those that gave me assistance with ideas and encouragement in the editing process of the book: Mrs. Essie Sullivan, Minister Victoria Thomas; my wife, Frances and the children as well as my brothers and sister. I thank you.

    SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!

Physically speaking, my days growing up within the small community of Green Line don’t leave much to speak of. My family didn’t have great possessions and neither did many of the other families. There weren’t any big expensive houses and very few people drove the newest and finest cars. There weren’t any movie stars and people with high profile jobs to role model after: (Which normally is thought of when reminiscing over the key events of a somewhat successful life). Green Line was just another modest, every day kind of a place to live.

Yet, to the many young minds that grew up there, it was a great and rich place for children to spend their formative years. Yes, pretty much, all of the people within the community were indeed poor, monetarily, but in terms of love, care and nurture of the young minds in their care, they were rich and intellectually qualified.

As many there used to say, The proof is in the pudding. The great job done by the elders is evidenced by the fact; the majority of the young people that grew up there became extremely mentally strong willed and focused. Many of these persons are living witnesses to the premise of the book that the mind is the key to success.

That indeed, people are what they think they are and become what they think they can become. The main subtopic of the book’s entails, "I am what I am because of what I think am." I achieve what I achieve because I think achievement. I fail what I fail because I think failure and fail to plan. And failing to plan is planning to fail. For the love, nurture and security given by the older generation, the young salute you and say in deep appreciation, well done.

At this point, I must pause and especially thank Mrs. Ola Mae Henderson Lomax (my mother) for her participation in the nurture of the young minds within the community. Especially, the great gift, she gave me and my brothers and sisters. What mother gave us was not a great inheritance of money, land, cars, jewelry, clothes or any physical riches. What mother left us, especially me, I value at the price of rubies, diamonds and gold.

(Next to Christ’s gift of salvation), mother’s gift has proven to be the greatest gift ever given me. She gave me love, security and a great sense of self worth.

Over the years, when money, friends and power left, the strength of knowing my-self worth, that I was somebody and deserved to be loved was immeasurable. In fact, the knowledge that I was somebody and deserved love and care, despite the circumstances, and what others were saying and doing made the difference between giving up, when beat down and getting back up, continuing to fight to the finish. Thanks mother and all of the other mothers and fathers of Green Line, may God’s blessings be upon you all.

    FOREWORD

Dr. S. S. Lomax is a great gift to the body of Christ. He is not a writer that’s a preacher but a preacher that writes. This book is a wonderfully thought provoking book about the mind of a man. It will be a great addition to the top of your bookshelf. It shows the attack on the mind, the weaknesses of the mind, and how to strengthen your mind. When you start thinking right you will start doing right. God bless Dr. Lomax to continue using his gift.
