About this ebook
Steven R. Thacker
Steven Randall Thacker was born in Southern Ohio in the early 1950’s. Steve was raised by his maternal grandmother and mother who were a considerable influence in keeping him in church during his early years. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Debby Jo Steiner. God blessed them with two sons, Corey and Shawn. Steve served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam era and retired medically with Multiple Sclerosis. He was ordained and a preacher in Baptist churches for 13 years. Since retiring Steve has served as interim pastor, filled the pulpit for pastor friends and held revivals. Later in life they were blessed again and adopted a grandnephew, their third son, Cody. They have seven grandchildren whose names appear in this book and who are pictured on its cover along with their ‘cuncle’ Cody. Hearing of his children reading bedtime stories to their children, he was encouraged by his wife to write ‘Adventures in Thackerville’. He has also written poems and songs since he was a teenager and is in the process of having his poetry published, ‘Seasons of Time’. He has a desire to publish his favorite sermons in outline form and a book of quotes. Steve has a enjoyment for life that is obvious in the stories in this book.

DEDICATION: This book is dedicated to my loving wife, Debby Jo. It is she who has been truly the love of my life and my closest and dearest friend. There has been no one (with the exception of my dear sweet Lord) that has been such a blessing to my life as she.

‘The Cross Poem’
THE CROSS
My roots grew along the Jordan’s bank,
It seemed I could touch the sky;
My shade stretched across the sand,
Where the Savior once passed by.
Then one day a soldier strong,
Stood in front of me;
With axe in hand he viewed my trunk,
As straight as it could be.
He began to cut my life away,
I can still recall the sound;
Of steel as it cut at my side,
And soon I was upon the ground.
He cut the shade from off my head,
Then loaded me upon his cart;
That’s when I learned the frightening news,
That broke my wooden heart.
They made of me a rugged wooden cross,
With splinters in every crack;
Then they picked me up and laid me on,
The Savior’s bleeding back.
The weight of me was so great,
He fell beneath the load;
So, the soldiers grabbed another man,
To carry me up that road.
When on the hill the Lord laid,
Upon my wooden back;
They nailed His hands, then His feet,
I thought my wood would crack.
Then they lifted up my mighty frame,
And dropped it into a hole;
And then they laughed and jeered at Christ,
As He hung there all alone.
I heard Him forgive a thief,
Who hung on a cross nearby;
I felt the tears roll down His cheeks,
As He saw His mother cry.
I heard Him
