Curtis Booher

"Curtis was born and spent his early childhood days in the country. He enjoys the outdoors and though he has never been on a raccoon hunt has known many raccoon hunters who has shared many of their stories with him. Acknowledgment

Curtis Booher loves the Lord and he loves to express that love through poetry. You will clearly see that as you read these poems. Curtis was born and reared in central Oklahoma. My acquaintance with him goes back some 40 years. I know him to be an avid sports fan both as a player on the field and as a very knowledgeable spectator and analyzer of various sporting events.

More importantly, however, is the fact that Curtis is a sincerely committed Christian man. Through his poems in this book he presents the Gospel message in all its beauty and power. He exalts God as the awesome and powerful creator. He emphasizes Christ, the cross, and the blood of Christ as the means of our cleansing from sin. Not to be missed is his emphasis on the heavenly home for all who accept and follow Christ. These themes are presented over and over again in many unique ways.

Several of these poems were used by Curtis as communion meditations or as inspirational readings in a church I served where he was a member. They were always appreciated, I recommend these poems as a refreshing read. They speak to that which we all as Christians have felt at times. They will be a clear reminder of God’s grace and love for us through his son Jesus Christ. And by the way, don’t miss the poems entitled, Mother and My Dad, My Father.

As the rich man gave a cup of soup to the hobo, he did say,

"I will earn my way to heaven by giving you soup today.

And I know not why God made me a better man than you,

or why it is that heaven waits for just a chosen few."

The hobo quickly took the soup, then slowly raised his eyes,

and through missing teeth and bearded lips, to the rich man, he replied,

"Sir, I truly thank you for this meal you’ve given me,

but there are things about heaven, sir, I’m afraid you do not see.

Sir, heaven is not a place you earn, you get there through God’s grace,

no matter what your wealth is or the color of your face.

And if a man’s value to you is just in what he owns,

and you think that rich includes a big ole fancy home,

then, sir, it will impress you that I have a mansion to behold,

a mansion my father’s given me, it’s built on streets of gold.

My Father Owns the Thunder, the lightning, and the rain,

He owns every foot of land from Russia around to Spain.

I am a wealthy Christian in spirit and in soul,

I have an inheritance waiting for me that ole Tut’s tomb can’t hold.

As the hobo soaked some dried out bread in his cup of soup,

    he said, "That’s a pretty
