About this ebook
The title Gems is unique within itself. The poetry displays deep thoughts that causes one to think of the known as well as the unknown. I chose Gems for my title because I feel that every one of my poems is as a collection of fine stones. As one reads a poem, I want the experience to be as one who gazed upon a fine gem. As with Gems, the quality of some poems will be better than others. It is my sincere desire that my readers will experience the same pleasure and satisfaction as a gem collector would receive when he gazes upon a rare stone. I pray to God that you will read this book of Gems.

Gems - Johnny Lofton
Atlanta
Your nights they glimmer, and your days they simmer, as the sun slowly rises in the Georgia sky. City towers and warm spring showers seem to bring pleasure to my watchful eye.
An old man standing at the bus stop handing his fare to the driver as he makes his way home. Near the Underground, a trumpet sounds as the heavy traffic rolls along.
I make my way to a quiet cafe, there to meet my lovely Fay. We sit and dine and pass the time, conferring over our busy day.
As the sun does fade, my way is made through the crowded expressways to a quaint chateau. There to find a glass of wine and a mellow tune on my stereo.
My soul spellbound, my joy here found, always found in you. Though I may stray, my heart will stay in that city where dreams come true.
Autumn
Oh, when the days of autumn do come, what a joyous time it shall be. When the leaves turn gold and the misty breeze blows, what beauty we then shall see.
We shall make ourselves happy when the days of autumn shall come. We shall run midst the falling leaves and play. We shall take our joy in the beauty that surrounds us and find pleasure in each day.
The aspens shall pour out their souls to us when the days of autumn shall appear. With shining leaves, they shall delight us and fill our spirits with cheer.
Oh yes, we shall take joy in the beauty of the earth. Much joy found within the trees. Oh peace shall be when autumn has come, our hearts then set at ease.
Ballerina
Ballerina, ballerina, as the music does play, oh how I do love to watch you dance the ballet. How graceful you are on the floor, with every gesture, and turn you fill my heart with pleasure. You are a treasure to me, a gem, a pearl, as you spin and twirl.
As you turn around and around, your movements are oh so profound. As the workings of a fine clock they are. You are as radiant as a star. Around and around as the music does play, you twist, you turn, and you sway.
At times, I think could you be real, or perhaps a windup doll that shall soon run down. Royalty you are to me, a queen, or a princess, fit for a crown. No model could ever be more graceful than you. Oh my lovely ballerina, how satisfying to me the dance that you do.
Blue Jay
Little blue jay, fly away high in the sky, up above the clouds you do fly. Away, away to a brighter place you shall fly.
Will you go to the garden of the queen or perhaps to the forest green? Shall you fly to the ocean blue or to the river that runs to the sea? Little blue jay, fly away to the city park, and take your rest high in the tall, tall tree.
Fly, fly high, little bird, let your heart be free. Go that you may see all the beauty of this world so fair. Spread your wings and soar in the air. Upon the winds you shall go, to view the beauty of the earth below.
Christmas Cheer
This is the time of Godly tidings, our homes now filled with saintly prayer. In our hearts, God’s love residing, the joys of Christmas now fills the air.
This is the time of yuletide carols and the laying aside of every sin. We joyfully seek our Christmas blessing, with peace on earth, and goodwill to men.
All about bright lights and tinsel, every town now set array. Angels dancing in the moonlight, as they are joyfully awaiting Christmas day.
Every soul now bright and merry, every mall a crowded place. With a smile, we greet our neighbor, giving gifts of love and grace.
We wish to all a merry Christmas, lighting our homes with candle light. Praying God will bless our neighbors, making now their season bright.
All around us angels flying, sounding trumpets in the sky. They cheerfully spread their joy about us, as peace on earth they loudly cry.
This the time of Godly tidings, when shall come the Christmas day. In our homes the joys of Christmas, as we humbly kneel and pray.
We pray that Christ shall come this Christmas, bringing to us the gift of love. Peace on earth shall be that Christmas, when Christ shall come down from above.
Jezebel
Your beauty was so intoxicating, and your charms were oh so devastating. My heart was subdued by your spell. My soul then bound by chains as well, as I drank of your wine, sweet Jezebel.
Great mischief now has fallen on me, were my eyes to blind to see? Did your beauty block out God’s light and lead me into this dismal plight. I lay with you and drink sweet wine, and with cocaine, did poison my mind. My soul did sink unto the pits of hell, all for you, sweet Jezebel.
Now In the streets I search each day, with another you have ran away. Such a passionate love turned to ice and now another you do entice. A young man once, yet by you made old. Shall God redeem my mortal soul? I know that he shall cleanse my slate and save me from this horrible fate. He shall remove me from this road to hell, and deliver me from you, my Jezebel.
Justice
Sweet justice shall ever prevail, and democracy will never fail. We shall always hold justice high, and by her balances we shall justify, the right from the wrong.
Those who perpetrate lawlessness shall not win, for the victor shall be justice in the end. Regardless to race, religion, or nationality, the innocent she shall free.
In time we shall find a better way to convey that witch is right. We shall continue to fight for equality for all. Justice shall not let us fall.
Justice shall hear our call, when we say deliver us from our oppressors this day. She shall loosen every bound, and her mercies shall ever be found. At the gate she shall stand and wait, and there decide our fate.
Lake O
the Pines
There is a place so filled with peace, a place where the cool breeze blows. There is a place where sailboats majestically glide, as the crystal blue water flows. There is a place
