Mama Syl'V

Sylvia V. Towns, a South and North Philadelphia native, has always had a zest for singing and poetry. During her early years, she performed in various plays in schools and in the church. Sylvia attended Cheyney (State) University and Temple University and graduated in 1982 under social administration with a degree in early childhood education. Her love for children and the performing arts has allowed her to produce a number of plays and stage productions over the years, which involve children of all ages. Many of her stage productions have premiered at Philadelphia's own Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts. Currently “Mama Sylv” is an employee of the Universal Companies and is a librarian at Universal Bluford Charter School. She has a media team, a book club and a performing arts club. Sylvia has one son, Vaughn and eight siblings.

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to the memory of Anderson and Velmer Freeman, who brought me into their lives at four months and twenty-three days old, who nurtured me and gave me a cherished childhood experience and a wonderful upbringing, to my Auntie, Rosetta Mitchell, who always supported and believed in me, and to my cousin, LaVerne Kennedy, who has been my confidant and my friend. A note of thanks to Nicole Mayrant, who helped me complete this task. Your care and support means so much. A special I love you to Fredricka Mattison and Joyce Frink.

To my ever-loving son, Vaughn, you made motherhood a delightful adventure.

    I love you much!
