    A Teacher's Aid - Success

    Chapter 1

    INT-HOUSE-NGT

It was every bit dark as the clock ticked on the end table with its hands glowing in the darkness. The night was drifting by, and time was slowly passing. The stillness was broken by the sound of gunshots, glass breaking, and screaming inside the house.

So you didn’t see anyone, or any vehicle that was involved in the shooting?

No. I said everybody was sleep on this school night. I laid down myself at after I ironed the jeans for my son, and daughter.

Do you know any reason Ms. Jekins, why a gun should be fired at the home of your son, or daughter?

No I don’t, and don’t start pointing fingers at my son, or daughter, because they’re minorities.

What school are they attending Ms.?

    Richmond High School.

Well let’s hope it was an accident, but keep in mind there has been rapid growth in violence among the youth as we know. They’re breeding gang members which is a shock to us all.

There is no gang members in this house.

Exactly my point Ms. Jekins, this is what happens to those who don’t join a gang, or are rival members. Goodnight, I’m done.

The next day at Richmond High School, there was chitter chatter about the shooting in the hood. The information had spread rapidly by mouth, and passed on. It was a class break now, and Mr. Parker, was looking at the papers from students on his desk.

Excuse me Mr. Parker, how are you today?

I’m okay. Why aren’t you at class break? I actually thought I was alone until I heard you speak.

Why should I class break to be around a lot of immature students that need to grow up.

I’m looking at you Dorthy in the same school. Are you saying you’re grown up?

What I’m saying is my house got shot up last night. If there were mature students at this school. It wouldn’t have happened.

Is this the reason you’re not at break?

Yes it is. I’ll be so glad when the school day is over. Then I can go home, and get away from students that don’t come to learn.

I understand Dorthy, Richmond High School has lost students to those useless shootings. Pull up a chair Dorthy.

Dorthy placed a chair beside the desk, and had a seat.

Listen Dorthy, you’re an excellent student, and its students like you that make me glad to come work here. That also makes non-believers, believers in education.

I understand, replied Dorthy as she looked over to his desk of papers to grade.

Troy, isn’t that your brother Dorthy?

    Yes. He’s my brother.

Troy, gets good grades also as I remember.

Yes that’s my brother, she replied with a smile.

    How’s your mother taking it?

Well she’s up tight about it.

We all are for that matter. You, and Troy, must keep your main focus on your grades at school, and keep less company of the immature as a plan, he replied as he paused.

Your mother shows up at a lot of P.T.A. meetings. Was your dad there last night during the shooting?

No. I actually don’t even know my dad.

"It’s sad to hear that Dorthy. Well class starts back up shortly, and from what I see here, you understood the English lesson fine. Here’s you test score, he replied as he gave it to her.

She received it with a smile. Dorthy studied the whole paper until it was completely looked over. Thank you.

Doesn’t that mean you should be thanking yourself for paying attention so your future can be insured?

Yes you’re right. Well class starts soon so I’ll go to the restroom, and make it back, replied Dorthy, who stood at 5’ 6" with brown smooth skin, a cute face, brown eyes, pretty smile, and physically fit. Her character was serious for her age.

Mr. Parker, was 5’ 11", brown skin, brown eyes, bright smile, and was a serious learner as well as teacher. Adding to that he attached himself to his students in hopes to give them private attention.

As the class filled the room all gossip, and talk stopped as Mr. Parker, stood to address the people before him. I’d like to bring the class attention to the large opportunity that surrounds education.

Well Mr. Parker, why is it that we try hard, and end up ignored?

    Are you ignored Willie?

    Yes. I feel ignored.

Mr. Parker, went to his desk, and found Willies school assignment, and turned to face him with it.

"Willie you’ve missed forty percent of the answers on the test, and there are students in this class that haven’t missed any.

Our elected choice Obama faced even harder trials, and became president."

"Mr. Parker, your job isn’t secure, and we all know it. The prison systems are taking money away from education departments, and fire departments.

"Willie I agree the California Department of Corrections, better known as C.D.C. is in the states pocket deep. But Willie it also insures that I’ll have a bright future along with fire departments.

Why? Because everybody wants teachers and firefighters to stay in place. Believe me nobody wants dumb children, or nobody to fight fires. The class laughed. "Willie it’s also grades like yours that ensure my future is bright. You’re too far behind in my field of education to take my place.

Sure the system is designed to fail in some areas. It’s people like me that will take a pay cut. Why? So I can teach you to be the best. I’ll take that punch to save you from poverty, and the C.D.C.

If you look at me real closer you can see my cape I have on." Everybody laughed.

As I look at all of you in class I see potential men, and women in all of you. I’ve had low grades before in school, and brought them up. So why can’t you? I assure you one thing, the C.D.C. doesn’t have a bed for me, or my degree. For the last hour of class, I’d like each of you to put a target goal on paper. Put three steps to get there. Be ready to discuss these goals, and steps tomorrow since it’s not enough time today.

Willie looked over, and winked at chill who rode with him, Sneed, and Paul, the want-to be kingpin. this group was also into some things which weren’t taught in Mr. Parkers class.

For the next three weeks it seem to haunt those who attended the social circle as a stray, the gang free who strived hard to stay that way.

The Richmond Police Department was in constant contact with Mr. Miller, the schools principal.

Mr. Parker, continued to instill the will to be somebody instead of a statistic.

Today was different due to a quest at the teachers meeting who was from the Richmond Police Department. As Detective Hinkley point out what he felt about the murders occurring everyone listened closely.

"The murders must stop for all of our sakes. Its trouble with the youths.

Arrests were made for sale of narcotics. Due to the amount, or packaging of drugs. Later bails were made, and releases. Next truancy officers stopped these students, and arrests were made.

At the station names, and prints clashed along with the mug shots, and delayed releases to parents.

Why? Because they had earlier been bailed out as distressed adults.

Now, that led us to believe that the parents didn’t bail them out and somebody else did. the detective sternly looked at each member of the staff.

"Our further investigation determined that some posted bails were made by the same people.

"Does this mean what it sounds like? Mr. Parker asked as he crossed his arms.

Well, what does it sound like to you Mr.? . . . .

Parker, replied Mr. Parker in an introductory manner.

Mr. Parker what’s your outlook on the situation?

Well being in the Army and based on tactics, I’d say it’s an open view to me as organized crime.

We felt the same at headquarters.

So it’s the students that suffer while the adults benefit huh?

You’re right again Mr. Parker, and I wish you all the best. My time is up here, but I hope we all gained something here today.

On behalf of Richmond High School, we all thank you Mr. Hinkley, replied Mr. Miller.

You’re all welcome, Hinkley replied as he turned to shake hands with Mr. Miller and then waved bye to the staff.

I’d like to detain you all for just under three minutes if I may. I know its been an extended day.

The staff once again sat down to hear Mr. Miller, who was Creole, 5’ 9", with glasses on the bridge of his nose. His sometimes rusty voice delivered the final speech of the day.

We’re facing something bigger than we assumed and I urge you to be mindful of the surroundings. I mean, be aware of students getting dropped off, or visited in expensive cars. There seems to always be someone out there to make it look good and easy right?

You’re right on that, a staff member replied.

Well goodnight to you all, replied Mr. Miller.

Mr. Parker was always on point and well respected, at least he thought he was. The desired job in his chosen field was one thing he thought of as he shaved in the mirror.

Dinner will be ready in eight minutes, replied Honey, his female friend as she entered the doorway to the restroom.

I’ll be there in four, he replied as he reached for the aftershave.

See you then, replied Honey as she turned slowly to make her way toward the dining room to set the table for two. Reneé Honey Miles was her full name given at birth. She was thirty one years old, 5’ 10", with brown eyes, honey-brown skin, breast-length hair, and a warm character.

As the two of them connected eyes in the dinner area they both read each others mind, as if a scan occurred. Silence fell for moments as Wayne took a step toward Honey. Wayne Parker was his name at birth and Honey always used the first name to address him in private.

Wayne, how’s it going at work?

It’s basically in the same direction with the exception of the new info received today from Detective Hinkley. There have been drug arrests followed by bails being made. Secondly, some of the same guys were taken in later as juveniles only to find out that the fingerprints and pictures showed an arrest as adults.

That’s really new news, replied Honey as she turned to start fixing plates in the kitchen.

It was also found out that the parents didn’t know about any of it. Some youth were even figuring probably to not be discovered while juveniles.

Well, well, so it’s a backer to all this bad news.

Yes, it looks like organized crime to us all. The youth takes the punishment, while some adults receive the benefits."

You can be seated now, she replied as a plate was placed for him.

He sat and shortly she came with her own plate and sat at the table.

The meal was eaten with small talk and wine.

Afterwards, she placed the dishes in the dishwasher as he prepared to brush his teeth in the restroom mirror. This time he was joined by Honey brushing her teeth and was caught imitating him with finger motions after she was done.

Ha, ha, ha, she laughed as she even amused herself.

Oh, you want to play huh?

She gave out a hard laugh and stuck up two fingers as if to say peace.

He bent down and rinsed his mouth quickly and sat his toothbrush in the holder. Next, he scooped up Honey with both hands and lifted her to his shoulder. As he carried her into the bedroom he picked up his tie before pinning her on the bed. He then tied her hand to the bed pole knowing that she’d be all his. He then tickled her to almost tears as she said, stop I’ll do anything. Just stop. He whispered in her ear and untied her.

    NEXT-SCHOOL DAY

Morning came fast as Mr. Parker found himself at halfway into the day. He went out today to observe what cars were coming and going in the traffic to school before lunch was over. Anything odd was mentally stored by him.

When after school came around, he repeated the process and went in as he normally did. This time instead of going straight in he stopped in to visit Ms. Jenkins. Ring, ring, ring… Hello, Mr. Parker.

Hello Dorthy, may I speak to your mother please?

Yes, come in and have a seat. Mama, Mr. Parker’s here to see you.

Mr. who? Ms. Jekins asked as she stepped into the living room.

I’m Mr. Parker, Dorthy’s school teacher. How are you Miss Jekins?

Well I’m concerned as a parent should be, and I’m fine.

I remember you well from the P.T.A. meetings. I know both your son and daughter by grades, good grades to be exact.

I appreciate your awareness, thank you.

"You’re welcome Ms. Jekins, but thanking me is taking away from your homework and support that’s well earned. I’m here to really thank you.

You’re welcome then Mr. Parker, and have a seat.

Dorthy told me about the shooting at this residence, and I’m here to support you during these times as well, he replied as he sat down.

Thanks again and would you like something to drink Mr. Parker?

No thanks Ms. Jekins. I’m heading out to eat, drink and get some exercise in that order, he said as he stood up with his hand extended.

Ms. Jekins stood up and shook his hand. They exchanged smiles and glanced as they somewhat looked deeply into each other’s eyes.

Mr. Parker knew the struggles she went through without a man, bringing up both Troy and Dorthy.

At that instance Troy walked into the room and relived for a second what he buried in the shadows of his mind. He hadn’t really seen his mother smile or actually shake a man’s hand since his Dad skipped out on him, hurting her deeply. She would say no thank you, I do not shake hands with men. To look at her now seems like she won’t let his hand go, or the smile.

Well Ms. Jekins, I might later on take you up on a cold drink. I’d like to with your permission stop by during these times and aid you. Next, if that window isn’t fixed I’d like to fix it myself."

Well you’re welcome to aid me Mr. Parker and it does me good to see there are still men with strength left on Planet Earth.

Hello, how are you doing Troy, he replied looking his way.

Much better Mr. Parker since its been probably nine years that I’ve seen my Mama refuse to even shake a mans hand. Now it’s with a smile. I’m happy for her Mr. Parker and thanks for offering to assist her.

    You’re welcome, Troy.

Troy replied before he left, the window should be done early tomorrow, but if not show me how to fix it once and that’ll be enough for me to learn it.

    O.K., Troy. You’ve got that.

Troy, did you have to put nine years of my business in the air?

No Mama and it wasn’t me, it was cupid inside me.

    What, replied Ms. Jekins.

Well, when are you going to give him his hand back?

At that point Ms. Jekins realized that she hadn’t let go of Mr. Parker’s hand nor did he withdraw his hand, so she turned to him and said, I guess you could have your hand back, and released her feminine grip to find it held as Mr. Parker held it up and kissed her hand gently.

Troy, it was me that held her hand. Replied Mr. Parker as he released her hand and said goodbye Ms. Jekins, Dorothy and Troy.

They all said goodbye Mr. Parker" in unison.

Mr. Parker went home thinking about Troy’s comment, about his mother being clammed up for nine years. That hurt came from a heartbreak. She had to be strong to fight off all the wolves that got at her.

She was Troy’s height and could look directly into his eyes to say what she felt a strong father would say. She was good looking with a cute face, pretty brown eyes, a bright smile and medium length hair. Her work out routine kept her figure fit. Mr. Parker felt her pain and believed it was God’s time for her to heal.

Meanwhile, Willie, Chill, Sneed and Paul were being nosy at the sight of Mr. Parker when he was at Ms. Jekins door. They had parked and waited until he came out and now trailed at a distance. Once Mr. Parker made it home they continued to keep moving. Ring, ring, ring. Hello, Chill speaking.

What’s up Chill, the ladies pill?

Oh just following a teacher from Richmond High School.

    What’s that all about?

He was seen at the door of the latest shootings so I was just curious so I waited for him to come out so I could follow him.

    Where did it end?

He went home. At least I guess he did.

Well you must be slanging pretty well to be following people instead of checking in.

Well I was going to, but I figured the more money I turn in, the better.

"You actually figured wrong since you’re paid by the package. Run that cash in before I have to bail your ass out again. Too-Raw pause to hear a reply.

I’ll be there in thirty minutes.

    Alright then. Click.

Too-Raw was chillin’ with his girl Sassie in the company of his partner. King, who had his girl Queen, with him.

The boys will be here in 30 minutes with money, so that cancels my quick dash to check on a few things.

Too-Raw is the groups head over King who has spent equal time in the game. King might have four less notches on his gun than his partner who was a hot head with a brain that sometimes could be called genius.

Too-Raw is 5’ 11" with reddish brown eyes, a dark complexion, a short hair style, crafty by nature and will kill once he runs out of things to say.

King was 5’ 10", brown skin, brown eyes, with a S-curl partly blended into his hair. His smooth talking allowed him to get in and out of some tight situations.

The main goal between t hem was to make money at the risk of others.

As Chill drove his Cutless which was his pride and joy, he cracked his window.

What are you doing man, you’ve just let out ten dollars worth of purple smoke.

I know. It was the smoke and smell that had us jacked before in that hot boy that I got out on them fools in.

Well why are you trippin’ on the smoke if you’ve got handles?

This is my personal car and my motor isn’t hyped up for no high speed. Besides save that checkin’ fo’ that piece of hoe you’re seeing with your sixty percent scoring ass. How do you do that in English and speak it? Everyone laughed except Willie who replied fuck you.
