It was summer 1959 and a young woman, Sasha, was on her way to see her mom and dad for the first time in five years. Sasha feels she will surprise them with her return, along with some live stock horses that she picked up along the way. Her family owned land for many years, and raised horses in her youth. Sasha stopped to rest and allowed the horses a drink of water. With this blazin’ sun they all needed their energy for the journey ahead. It was a light breeze in the air, but not much. She started back on her way, about four or five more miles before she could see her family’s land. After all, Sasha covered a lot of ground and she had to stop a moment, close her eyes, take a deep breath and bask in the light cool breeze blowing ever so slowly across her face. She couldn’t help but to think to herself about all the fun times she had growing up on this land. She opened her eyes and started back riding. Before she knew it in her sights was the land and the house she calls…home. Sasha jumps off her horse over zealous with joy and runs through the yard calling out to her mom and dad. The front door was always unlocked, something she quickly remembered. Sasha walks in and immediately feels something is not right. She calls out, Mom. Dad. once again and still no answer. She started through the house looking around, listening for sounds, but nothing. She makes her way toward the kitchen where she sees her mother lying in a pool of blood, her father laid across the kitchen table with two gun shots in his back. Sasha’s eyes feels up with water, her hands begin to shake and the tears start to roll down her face. With many thoughts running through her head, she finally cries out loud. She looks around for clues, her blood boiling hotter every minute, thinking to herself, Who coulda done dis?

She’s trying to pull herself together but the tears or still flooding from her eyes. She goes into her dad’s office looking at all the pictures on the wall full of old and new times. Thinking, wondering, mad and all kind of emotions are rushing in now. Got the key to open up her dad’s class draw to get tem pearl handles Smith and Western 45 sharp shooters, her dad bought for her when she was a teen. She never got the chance to see her father’s face light up seeing Sasha with them pearl handles. Placing both of the 45 in her holster, she went back to say a prayer before leaving. Walking out of the door, she notices the horses were supposed to be in the gate and weren’t. She didn’t notice it when she first got there. Not sure what to make of it, she gathered her own horses, got on hers and took one more glance before riding off. Sasha took the back way to the river. She was sad and not sure how she was going to get ten horses across a slow moving river. The baby horse got his shoe caught up on one of the rocks in the water. Sasha had to get off her horse to free the baby from the rock so she could keep up with the rest of the bunch.

Sasha: Okay, come one girl, what’s wrong? We got to keep moving. I’ll take a look at you when I get you with the rest of the bunch. So help me girl come on, move it! There you go. That’s it, move it.

On her way back to the other side with the other horses, she looked back and saw six or seven strangers on the back of some horses moving pretty fast. Sasha got the baby horse and herself on land with the others. They circled around her and one of them drew their gun.

Sasha: Hold up, what’s going on?

Sue: Okay. Take them guns out real nice and slow and drop them to the ground…and don’t get slick.

    Sasha: What is this?

Jason: You heard what she said. Drop them guns!

    Sue: Now!

Sasha looking around, back and forth, side to side, took a good look before she dropped her guns. She dropped them and looked dead at Sue who seemed to be the leader. Eye to eye, Sasha stared down the old lady thinking to herself, Maybe these the ones who killed my mom and dad. Then, one of them pulled back and got along side of Sue and whispered something in the old lady’s ear.

Dave: They’re wearing the Carter brand, Ms. Sue, them horses she got.

    Sue: Are you sure?

    Dave: Yeah! I checked them.

Sasha: That’s right. What about it?

Sue: Where you get them horses young lady?
