Invasion of the Killer Tapeworms (The Tapeworm Empire, #1)
FADE IN:
EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - MORNING
TITLE CARD: ALLENTOWN, TEXAS
We see several dozen Humvees and military vehicles. They cruise up and down the streets. Houses line up the neighborhood on either side. A black Humvee SLOWS
to a crawl. HALTS out front of one home.
A homeless man greets the driver. They talk unheard words. The homeless man gestures toward the house behind him. We see three soldiers step from the Humvee. They slowly approach the tucked away home.
Two of the soldiers are short. One flanks the rest, perhaps a good foot and a half taller than the other two. This is CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON of the elite task force 'Red Squad One'.
FULL SHOT SOLDIERS APPROACHING HOME
They carry semi-automatic weapons. All aimed forward. Captain John Harrison leads the way. They hold a battling ram.
ANGLE ON HOME
It seems a typical house. Tucked just off the street, surrounded by hedges and freshly cut grass.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V.—CONTINUOUS
The soldiers slowly advance on the house. Closer inspection reveals it is run down. Wood hangs loose from several dozen places. Paint has long PEELED OFF. The front porch lies hazardously close to falling. The front screen door is ASKEW.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HOUSE—MOMENTS LATER
We see two, young couples cross-legged on a carpet. They are drinking and smoking crack.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HOUSE—CONTINUOUS
A loud CRACK is heard. The front door FLIES inward, barely missing the couples.
The soldiers rush in. Weapons aimed. Battling ram is dropped.
ANGLE ON COUPLES
They SCREAM with terror. The soldiers are around them, dragging them from the front room and out of the house.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V.—CONTINUOUS
The soldiers lay the KICKING and SCREAMING couples to the grassy ground. Captain John Harrison lowers his M-16. Eyes the two females.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(authority)
I'm Captain Harrison from Red Squad One. No doubt you've heard of us.
He sees the crack pipe fall from one of the girl's hands.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
And...I'm sure...that isn't the reason we're here.
He KICKS the pipe to the nearby sidewalk. A dog runs up to it. Picks it up and disappears.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V.—MOMENTS LATER
The couples are now standing, SHOUTING at the soldiers.
The scene is chaotic. Captain Harrison draws his pearl handle pistol. SHOOTS up in the sky. Everyone on the grass quiets down.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Shut the hell up!
Nobody says a word. Even his soldiers seem afraid to speak.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
If you'd paid attention to your local news station...you'd see that there's a plague eating at the very heart and soul of our country! That's the reason we're here today, people!
He looks to where the dog with the pipe has disappeared.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Not for stupid crack smoking! But of course...we can always take that into consideration, if you know what I mean.
FULL SHOT FIRST COUPLE—CONTINUOUS
The young man easily steps forward. Shaking. In his hand he is STILL CARRYING a beer can. It FALLS to the grass. He looks at the tall leader of the soldiers.
FIRST MAN
(nervous)
Yes...sir...we know of the disease. It's all over the news...and papers. But what's that gotta do with us? We're just...partying...that's all.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He HOLSTERS his pearl handle pistol. Stares at the young man.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(slowly)
Well...son...it has everything to do with you, and your friends. We were told of this house...just moments ago. The person warned us about...
His eyes slowly DART back and forth from each of the couples.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
...the possibility of one of you having it!
ANGLE ON COUPLES
The couples SCREAM their disbelief.
A girl from the second couple tries to RUSH the soldiers. She is held back by her boyfriend.
FIRST MAN
(shocked)
No fuckin' way, dude! Ain't no one here got that fuckin' disease! Don't you think if that was the case, that we'd be hanging out...?
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V.—CONTINUOUS
We see the man from the second couple fall to the grassy ground. He screams in agony, while holding his belly. He tears at his shirt, exposing his rolling gut.
FULL SHOT MAN'S BELLY—CONTINUOUS
It rolls up and down like something was trying to get out.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
We've got a rogue! Quickly...
It is too late.
ANGLE ON INFECTED MAN
His belly caves open gushing forth his bloody guts. They spill to the ground like a nest of snakes.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He leaps backwards; knowing all to well what would happen if he did not. His other guards aim their weapons.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V.—CONTINUOUS
The other couples leap away from their dying friend. The animated intestines slide from him like earthworms from a can.
The captain has his rifle.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(screaming at the other couples)
Get the fuck out of the way!!
We witness the guardsmen open fire at the horrifying scene. The young man's face MELTS away as bullets RIP through it.
The bloody intestines manage to CRAWL some feet from the lifeless body of the man. They rise ten feet into the air like some freak joke of a cobra from an Arabian Knights' tale. Then just as suddenly the ropy coils collapse into a long string of pulsating, lumpy matter. They become still.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He falls to one knee, thankful.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(using cell phone type radio)
This is Captain Harrison of Red Squad One. We discovered the rogue. All is clean...at least here anyway. We need a mop up team right away.
He puts away the radio-cell. Watches as the other couples are inspected and released.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V.—LATER
We see armored-type vehicles parked on the street. Two guys in protected suits are doing the dirty job of cleaning up the mess. The young man's body is placed in back of a hearse. The thing that came out of him is placed in a round drum and sealed shut. Outside it are the words: ROGUE #256.
A tall, black soldier walks up to Captain Harrison. He has his weapon shouldered. This is SHEPARD, Captain Harrison's 1st in command.
SHEPARD
(concerned)
Sir...I just thought you gotta know...none of those kids had their Health Card. Or for that matter...their Plague Meds.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(puzzled)
What? That's the second time this week. Shep...I guess we've better write it down like before. And when we get back to HQ, I'll have another talk with Doc.
Shepard nods his head. He watches the hearse and armor vehicles drive away.
SHEPARD
Well, sir, at least this area's clean.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
We see him rubbing his pearl handled pistols. He looks up at the black man and grins.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Is it really, Shep? Is it really clean?
He turns, walks back toward his Humvee. Shepard looks at him leave and SHAKES his head with wonder.
CUT TO:
INT. MARY SUE IN CAR—MOMENTS LATER
We see a young woman (in her 30's). She inserts a CD into her radio. 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' POPS on loud and clear. Her fingers TAP the steering wheel, going along with the old, 80's music. This is MARY SUE, Captain John's wife.
She TAPS her bluetooth device in her ear. Dials her husband's cell number. After a few attempts, she halts it.
MARY SUE
(frustrated)
Dammit, John, don't you ever answer your cell?
FULL SHOT STREET LIGHT TURNING RED
We see her look in surprise. She SLAMS on the brakes.
BACK TO MARY SUE IN CAR
She is FORCED to the steering wheel then back against the seat. We hear her groceries in the back as they slide, CRASHING against the back of the seat.
MARY SUE
(pissed off)
Goddam street lights!! And...my groceries? I bet they're just ruined!!
We hear a LOUD TAPPING noise on a window. It's Mary's driver side window. With closer inspection, we see it's a city cop. He is holding paper work in his hands.
POLICE OFFICER
(shouting on other side of window)
Roll’re down, ma'am! You've just ran a red light...going 40 in a 25...and just stopped right in the middle of the street, blocking traffic. Now...roll it down, please!
ANGLE ON MARY SUE
We see by the look on her face that she is not pleased.
MARY SUE
(still upset)
Oh...okay, Officer.
She ROLLS down the window. Stares at the officer's mirrored sunglasses. They reflect her face right back.
MARY SUE
Sorry, sir, wasn't paying no mind.
