I’d heard the helicopter, knowing that Mike would be arriving today. We were camped in a small clearing in the middle of a forest near a broad valley. The tribe had ventured south in search of this particular group of Bigfoots. Brutus was their leader and he…was as handsome and kind as any of the hairy lovers I had ever been with.

With Maggy in my arms, the Sasquatch infant clung to me, demonstrating a surprisingly strong grip. I made my way towards the noise, as Western hemlocks and red cedars towered over me. My feet were encased in well-worn hiking shoes, while khaki shorts revealed lean, tanned legs. Shelly and Leslie were at the camp with Zelda, watching over the boys. I had left Daisy sleeping with Wolfie. Mike had come to get his daughter, as we would be on the move again soon. I had enough to worry about with Maggy. Besides the new baby, I fed another Sasquatch infant as well. The baby’s mother, Lori, had left a few days ago, having been kidnapped by Brutus’s tribe. I had been able to secure her release, although it seemed the trade-off had come in the form of my sexual surrender to the charismatic ape, which wasn’t a hardship in the least.

But that’s my secret…

The slice of blue visible ahead, peeking between the branches of the trees revealed the edge of the forest. A pretty valley lay beyond, with a creek cutting a swath right through the center. A helicopter had landed, although it sounded like it had just taken off, a gust of wind blowing my hair into my face. Maggy squirmed in my arms, her furry body shivering.

It’s okay. It’s just a plane. A man ran towards me, carrying a backpack. I knew who he was, having been married to him for several years now. My husband grinned, his handsome face softening. Hi, I said.

Where’s Daisy?

She’s sleeping. This one wouldn’t go down, so I had to take her. She’s crawling now and getting into everything. He hugged me, which trapped Maggy between us, the baby grunting.

I’ve missed you, honey. Are you all right?

Dr. Haynes said you were with another tribe.

We began to walk to the trees. We are. I told them you’re coming, so they better not freak out. His backpack looked heavy. What did you bring?

A bunch of stuff. He looked concerned. Who are these guys?

They’re a southern tribe. Leonard wanted to come for hunting, and we’re staying with them. Shelly’s with us.

I thought she never wanted to see another smelly ape again for the rest of her life?

Ha! I guess not. Her engagement didn’t work out. The guy cheated on her or something. She’s hanging with us for the summer.

How many apes are in the other tribe?

Five, including Brutus.

Brutus? His grin was laced with humor.

A peal of laughter escaped him. Boner? That is…perfect.

No, shit, I giggled. They were shy at first, but they’ve gotten used to us. They don’t understand English at all. They haven’t been around a lot of humans. Brutus is pretty advanced though.
