R.D. Coast

About R.D. Coast R.D. Coast was once visited by a great dragon and is pretty sure that her two childhood friends who could run up the walls and play on the ceiling were absofuckinglutely real. As a young reader, R.D. loved the mysteries of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys; the fantasy of Roman and Greek mythologies; and, the darkness of R. L. Stine and Christopher Pike. Now she enjoys creating erotic stories that bring together the supernatural, women we want as friends, and the alpha males that claim them. With a slight exception to her After Dark series. Hunted by Death - R.D. Coast

    Chapter One

O h my god, she’s totally psychic, the blonde mortal teenager twirled around a woman with a striking streak of white disrupting sable hair pulled into a sleek ponytail. You didn’t even tell me that you’re going to have twins, Mom!

Sitting on top of a blush-coloured throw, Sadie Bane sat near the window of the alcove where she had been looking out of the lace framed window. Thoughts of past, present, and future had mingled together hopelessly while she watched the rain blur the lights of a city in motion. The grey twilight casting its spell over her home city, Toronto, somehow always made her feel alive and tapped into the electricity of something supernatural. Then again, she really was.

She peeked at the two excited mother and daughter who had exited the beaded doorway, offering a slight smile at the older woman. In return, the woman beamed at Sadie before holding her daughter’s cheeks in her hand, speaking in disbelief and joy. I can’t believe she knew I was pregnant, Carmen. I barely knew that I was pregnant, I haven’t even told your father. But twins, I can’t believe it. They both giggled, the older woman wiping tears from her eyes.

I can’t wait for you to get a big belly and for them to get here -

Hold on, I’m not even showing. The woman stood patiently with bright eyes as her daughter helped to slip a trenchcoat on her.

I promise Maria and I will help you and Dad. We’re totally responsible now, so it will be way easier than it was when you and Dad had to do everything for us kids. She stopped abruptly and squealed Twins!

Laughing, they made their way to the door, preparing their umbrella for when they stepped outside.

I hope she has good news for you, too. The woman smiled warmly at Sadie as her daughter swung the door open and held the umbrella up for them.

Sadie tried to conjure a smile to match, but knew she fell short, Oh, thank-you. All the best with your news.

The door closed behind them with a small tinkle from the bell at its top.

The yellow light of the small, cozy room did not reach the short hallway past the beaded curtain. Faint shadows textured the Parisian purple coloured wall. Sadie felt comfortable in the small length of the hall with only muted light from the entrance on one end, two small wall sconces in the middle, and the sparkle coming from the string of tiny, sparkling white lights that lined the doorway at the other end. Preferring the moon over the sun, and night over day, Sadie knew that she took pleasure in the complete opposite of the tall being who sat in one of four gold velvet chairs.

Stepping into the room, her heart felt as if needed to burst. Still amazed that after millennia, she was looking at another archangel. A smile from the statuesque angel broke over Sadie, it’s warm reach filling the room inside the purple walls. Crossing with purpose, Sadie walked lightly on the tapestry rug. She went to the round table where the angel sitting there placed her hands on the mist coloured tablecloth and stood up.

    Sadie, come.

Longing flooded Sadie as she moved into the open arms waiting for her, Burying her head in the soft shoulder, she wrapped her arms tightly around the slim waist and let the tears lining her eyelashes fall quietly on the long-sleeved forest green dress.

Do not cry, sweet Sadie. Come sit with me.

Sadie used her fingers to drag the tears from her face, offering a genuine smile as she took a seat at the table. Pulling her chair in, she placed her hands on the table and open and closed her fingers two times quickly. Once her hands were filled with, she laced her fingers with the long elegant fingers of the being who sat across from her.

I just had to come see you for a moment. I’ll never get over seeing you and being able to touch you, Othriel. I still can’t believe this is real.

I know, Sadie. Me, too. Othriel rubbed the inside of her fingers against the diamond ring on Sadie’s finger. Who knew the blood of mortals would be the most powerful of all. Lifting her hand to the light, Othriel’s ring reflected a small splash of rainbow colours on the table. The power to summon and to move between the realms. She used a finger tip to trace a small circle around the large diamond.

When you slipped this ring on my finger, I didn’t even realise it.

It’s the only way I was able to find you after your exile ended. God refused to tell any of the angels where you were.

Don’t say his name. Bitterness surged through the words. I hope you put an end to his cruelty.

The small bell at the front entrance tinkled, the smell and sound of heavy rain rushing in and filling the first floor. WIth a squeeze of her hands, Othriel pushed her chair back and stood. Hold on a minute, Sade.

Sadie watched as Othriel, the archangel known as the Fire of God levitated slightly off the ground into the hallway. Closing her eyes, Sadie breathed in deeply. The scent of the rain felt cleansing and she held the breath of air deep in her chest.

A few weeks ago, Othriel had appeared in front of Sadie’s sister, Nyssa. On that same day, Othriel had summoned Sadie using the ring wrapped snugly around Sadie’s fourth finger. It was the first time Sadie had seen an angel since Othriel had freed her from exile so that Sadie could live among the mortals, awaiting Nyssa to be born as a mortal to protect her and care for her without Nyssa ever knowing Sadie’s true identity.

Now, everything had changed. Nyssa had unlocked the memory
