Da’Vid would like to thank his Mum and Dad, Robbie and Rosemary, for always believing in him and supporting him in whatever he wanted to do – as long as it was the right thing to do! Also to my siblings Logan, Hayden and Anna – Love you all. xxx
Madgewick would like to thank the Creative Fox, Sharon, for the life like renditions of Da’Vid, myself and friends - Much better than what I could achieve with my tail painting. Also to Neil, the wise owl, for checking my spelling!

Chapter 1
The end of a tail
and the beginning of a tale
Far away, over hills and dales, through mountains and valleys, there is a land.
It is a beautiful land of green pastures and blue velvet lakes. Here the sun always shines during the day and the rains only come at night. In this land lives a special creature called Da’Vid.
You, or I, might call Da’Vid a dragon, but if so he isn’t your run of the mill dragon. Da’Vid lives in one of the mountains that stands at the edge of the Valley. His caves are labyrinths running through the mountain, and in every high vaulted room there is at least one wall completely covered in books - Da’Vid is not just a dragon, he is a bookworm dragon! Da’Vid enjoys any kind of book, from wordless picture books to pictureless word books.
One bright, autumn day Da’Vid was out walking, reading about those strange creatures, known as humans, who live in crowded, smelly communities. Suddenly he heard the sound all dragons dread; the sound of a shoed horse that was carrying a heavy load. It could only mean one thing, the local humans had decided to blame all their woes on the dragons again and one of their idiotic members, thinking he was brave, was going to try and slay a dragon.
Oh no! Not again!
cried Da’Vid. When will those silly creatures learn that trying to slay dragons doesn’t solve anything, if anything it makes matter worse by causing more hostility? Humph! I’d better go and find it before one of the other dragons fires it.
Da’Vid took a short cut through the wood to the open plain where he knew the human would be. He came out just a few metres in front of the horse the human was sitting on. The horse, being humanised and never having met a dragon before, reared up at the sight of Da’Vid. This made the human, who was dressed in a heavy, shiny metal suit, fall off. As soon as the horse was free of this burdensome weight it turned and galloped away, heading for home and its comfortable stall. The human was left facing Da’Vid. It stood and drew its sword, with a quivering and quavering voice it tried to shout at Da’Vid, but its voice came out as a whispering stutter.
C-C-C-Come on th-th-then, I’m not a-a-a-afraid of you! L-L-L-Let’s see h-h-h-how brave y-y-y-you are when y-y-y-you feel the st-st-st-sting of my sw-sw-sw-sword !
Oh P -LEA-SE!
said Da’Vid, exasperatedly, Will you stop acting so stupid and put that thing down before you hurt somebody! Why can’t you try to solve your problems by using your head, finding the cause and correcting it, without resorting to violence on innocent, peace-loving dragons?
Unfortunately the human didn’t hear this, it was too frightened, all it heard was terrifying roars and rumbling, it was sure that there would be flames soon.
