THE DEFINITIONS OF POWER
IF THIS BE
By Osmond Collins
If this be the only book
The book I shall ever read
Let it be,
Be everything in life that I shall ever need
Filled with nuggets, rubies, treasures and tools
Opening the eyes of the brilliant, of babes and fools
Let it be the spark,
The spark to the flame that the runners light
The flame that champions seek
They seek in their darkest night
If this be the only book
The book let me draw it near
I pray its first lifesaving lesson begins,
Begins right here.
INTRODUCTION
The various powers which will follow come packed with Dunamis which from what I understand is the root for the words dynamite, dynamo and dynamic. We all might know what dynamite is. Growing up in my era I remember watching "cowboy" movies. The people would use the dynamite at various times to blow up the side of a mountain. I also now come to understand that it is not so much the dynamite that blows up the mountain or causes the true damage but the vibration created by sound.
The various powers herein possess the same qualities in the spirit realm as that of dynamite. Why is the spirit realm of key importance? Spiritual realm is significant because the true seat of power resides in that place. If a person has little influence in the spirit realm due to his poor relationship with the source of all power, he has little influence on the outcome of things in the natural realm where we witness manifestations. Note that nothing happens in the natural realm except there is first a spark or blast of power wielded from the spiritual realm. It may seem as the opposite is this case but allow me explain that even though you may do a physical act and something results, the true source of influence comes from the head which is the spirit.
To give an example: when a man or woman says something such as This job is mine
and then the person doesn’t access or acquire the job, you have seen in the physical, the weakness of their spiritual virtue. I don’t have to belabor the thought of how many times we have said things will be one way and the opposite is the result. All this activity comes on the strength of our level of faith or more accurately is birthed out of our actual spiritual clout. If a man doesn’t have the authority to do something, then there is little effect that can be expected, resulting out of what he says.
Let’s give another example. You have two individuals in an army, a general and a private. The private says to the regiment: Attention! What will the response of the regiment be? He may get some response from some of the soldiers or none at all because they know that he who speaks is either of the same rank or lesser. Contrarily, when a general enters the room he has no need to even speak a word. Immediately every soldier of every rank will promptly stand at attention. This is the sign of his or her power or clout.
In a similar situation mentioned in the bible, Jesus the Christ entered a location. When he entered the scene, immediately the demons in a man became uneasy and fearful. The demons cried out:
⁶But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped (to kiss like a dog licking his master’s hand*¹) him,
⁷And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
Mark 5:6-7 Amplified Version
Note here: Jesus had neither need to speak to nor acknowledged in any way that these demons were in his presence. Jesus had a spiritual authority that did not require him to even exert the energy to mention a word. Simply by entering the scene, and even from a far off, the demons immediately recognized the badges of his honor and the crown upon his head deeming him the highest rank authority. This is because all these demons and all spiritual entities are kingdom minded and are aware of kingdom authority. Know also, that the crown is not particularly visible to the naked eyes except only to those who are spirit, or those who can see in the spirit, having discernment.
Jesus then commanded the demons to vacate the body of the possessed person and go into some pigs that were nearby. The amazing thing was that the demons knowing who he was, and that he had authority above them requested of him not to send them out of the country and asked that they be released to go into the pigs (Mark 5: 19-12). Jesus complied and authorized them to go. The demons were not allowed to operate under their own personal decisions but awaited instructions from the commander who had a higher rank than they. Even though these demons were spirits of rebellion, they had no power to do their own thing in the presence of this man of authority.
Behind Jesus’ back, in his absence, these demons were busy following the instructions of their master the devil, but once Jesus entered their presence, being the King of kings he ranked high above their master. As such, they had to stand at attention and await his instructions (a new instruction which would override the former) even though he was not the assigned commander of their regimen, but that is the beauty of Jesus, he is the commander of commanders including the fallen ones.
Again, we see in the following scripture that power is recognized by the occupants of the spiritual realm.
Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Acts 19: 13-16
In this example, we see clearly that the spirits already recognize who has a higher rank than themselves. They recognize the rank by the person’s relationship with the highest ranking officer, Jesus. Notice that the scripture specifically placed Jesus as the first to be mentioned. "Jesus, I know, and Paul I know…" Jesus was the General and Paul a man who was previously ill-reputed because he was against the followers of Christ, the demons knew and honored his command. What qualified Paul to be a known individual from whom the demons would take instructions? Was it his earthly rank in the Roman government? Certainly not! It was his new-found relationship with Christ the King of kings and the Lord of Lords.
FOREWORD
Our thoughts and words are more powerful than we think they are. Our ignorance of how forceful our words and thoughts are, has caused circumstances to work against us without us realising the cause. Little wonder, it is commonly said, ‘when the purpose of a thing is unknown, abuse becomes inevitable’. How we have suffered untold hardship because of this error. A man is as he thinks in his heart and this book, ‘The Powers’ will help you gain deeper understanding into how thoughts are formed and directed either to make or mar a person, place or thing. It is unfortunate, the degree to which the enemy has taken advantage of our ignorance regarding the use of ‘the powers’ that God has given to us, to advance His purpose on earth to our hurt and shame.
I have been so enriched by the nuggets of truth I gleaned from this great work. This book has in it, truths that can drastically transform your life for good, if read, understood and correctly applied. This is not a book to be rushed, but to be prayerfully meditated upon as you navigate through it.
You are holding in your hand a tool that can help you align your thoughts and words productively. As you diligently apply yourself to these principles, the profits thereof will begin to appear before all and yet, not before long.
