Katherine's Time - Michael Hodo

Prologue
It had been a week since Gary and Katherine were married, and things were going pretty well. Regardless of Gary's circumstances: a mother who had abandoned him at an early age, a father who died tragically in a car accident, drug and alcohol abuse, and prison. He'd rehabilitated himself and committed his life to Christ. Katherine never gave up hope that, someday, he would overcome his difficulties and turn his life around.
Returning home from their honeymoon, they pulled up in front of their townhouse and began to unload their luggage. It had been a wonderful cruise island hopping in the Caribbean. The last leg of their trip, the ship docked at Montego Bay, Jamaica, and they ate at a seaside restaurant where they had a native Jamaican dish. The food was so delicious that Gary convinced Katherine to cook some more when they returned home.
What’s up? Why are you smiling?
Katherine said as she pulled the small suitcase from the trunk of the car and lowered it to the ground.

Gary said.
Me too. I was thinking the same thing.
Remember when I told you to pray for me because I didn’t think I was going to make it.
I do remember that day—so well. You were in pretty bad shape.
I know. But you believed in me and didn't quit. I love you so much, Katherine.
"I love you too, Gary. I never told you about the dream I had of our wedding day when you were going through bad times. We were walking down the aisle, and you had a beautiful tuxedo on with a shiny black cummerbund. I was dressed in a white wedding gown with a long train. The strange thing about the dream was there were a young girl and boy carrying the train of my wedding dress as we left the chapel. The dream was so vivid. I knew then—God was speaking to me about you—and that kept me going."
Wow! That was a pretty amazing dream! And you never told me about it.
That's God’s and my little secret,
she said, smiling.
After they'd finished putting their bags in the house, they jumped into bed and rested for a couple of hours. Then Katherine went to a Caribbean grocery store not far from their house to pick-up a few things. Returning home, Katherine cooked oxtails, plantains, rice and peas, and dumplings. Katherine enjoyed exploring ethnic recipes, and Gary remembered her Caribbean meals when they were dating. Their church was multicultural, and she’d learned how to cook this particular dish from a Jamaican
