About this ebook

As the modern-day Psalmist Vashawn Mitchell so eloquently put it, there is nobody greater than the Lord Jesus Christ. When Vashawn stated this he was simply expressing himself in the way that God saw fi t to give him. What this book is to me is my form of expression from what I believe God saw fi t to give me. This is and I am a work in progress, so it might not be what you would have put together. However, I feel that there is a poem or two for every individual on this earth. If there is not wait on the second book of poetry. It is sure to tickle your fancy.

This Great God is alive in me and has given me a passion to write. He has brought me through many tough times and continues to deal with me on a regular basis. Th at is why I say that myself and my form of expression is a work in progress. I am trying to take an age old art form and put my very own twist to it. I pray that your will take this journey with me and be inspired to use your talents for God in your own way.

Author

Christopher D. Colbert

This book comes from my heart and my head. It was inspired by the love of God that I feel for me. It describes where I started from with 2300 being the block where I hung while living the fast life to where I am going. Like Langston Hughes the only formal training I have to write poetry includes a few literature classes in college and my life's experiences. I think about verses and syntax all day and have decided to share my passion and point of view with the entire world. I am currently a dishwasher and a busboy like Langston Hughes. I live in Anniston, Alabama and am studying business at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa. I am praying to get into Harvard Business School to complete my masters in marketing.

    2300

    Long days and long nights.

There’s not an approachable female in sight.

But there’s cops to my right.

And they’re ready to use their might.

    Because I’m stealing someone’s dreams.

    By serving these fiends.

But it seems they don’t get it.

Since the antidote we’re not with it.

    What’s the antidote you ask.

    It’s not wearing this mask.

    Or digging through the trash,

    Stealing these rags,

    Or buying these bags.

It’s getting off our you know what.

    And maybe reading a book.

To stop messing with this crook.

It’s not standing in a back ally.

    Counting up the day’s tally.

Just so I can pay this month’s rent.

    My rent money being spent.

On beer, cigarettes, and more weed,

    Because that’s what I think I need.

To try and keep myself motivated.

    Man I’m so confused.

I have the most backward views.

If I spent this time on my mind

    Instead of trying to unwind.

    From wounding myself up.

I could really have some stuff.

Those things that I so desire.

But no I’m just trying to get higher.

I’m the fiend that I serve.

    Imagine my nerve.

    Standing on this curve.

I could go to jail for years,

And then would flow the tears

    From my mom of course,

Since she didn’t know the source

Of the gold in her ears.

And then would flow more tears.

If I went to jail for years,

There would be a lot fewer beers,

    And far too many queers

For me to see that there is a better way

    Than beginning and ending everyday

    At 2300.

    A Call to Action

    An immediate call for action,

    Would give us great satisfaction.

It would help to heal the infraction

    Of the former administrative faction.

We would facilitate a derived proposal,

    And have at our disposal,

    The faculty whom factures wisdom,

    Through factualism and a decision,

    To not allowing the fascists

To dictate in a forcible fashion.

We can fain at the possibilities,

    Saying farewell to past futility.

    An increase our desired civility.

Though far be it for me,

To go as to far as to say.

    That we won’t simply fantasize,

    About the very day.

    And what we desire,

    Will actually come to fruition.

    Having served our purpose,

    And completed our mission.

    a lot (My Views)

My views had been shaped out of misuse and abuse.

An abuse of my negligence and a misuse of my intelligences.

I had neglected to intelligently approach certain situations.

Now my views of the world, I had to replace them.

I once felt angry and treated unfairly,

A little disoriented, and a little scary.

If I sold you that X, that one that marks
