Dear Gym Teachers, Physical Education Teachers, Directors of Movement Sciences, Kinesiologists, Biomechanics, and those Americans that work with children in any capacity. It is time that we take back our gyms. Theories such as cooperative activities, skills development, everybody wins, when you’re out, go do 5 jumping jacks then you are allowed to come back in the game, have gone on long enough. Kids are not dumb. They understand their strengths and weaknesses. Our children deserve to be taught what life is all about. Now, you are about to receive the antidote for such an undertaking. It is called Fun Ball. I would like to personally thank you very much for taking the time, and having the courage to take a look at the most exciting game to evolve in the past century on this planet. My name is Bobby Herodes and my students love when I refer to myself as the Director of Research and Operations for the United States Fun Ball Association. Let me start off by mentioning that this is just one man’s humble opinion about the game I created over 18 years ago, called Fun ball.

If by reading about, studying and playing Fun Ball with your students, children, friends and family, you are able to put one smile on one child’s face you have helped to make our schools and our country a better place to live in. Ever since man has walked upright, he has enjoyed throwing stones and other objects at prey and other animals encountered during his time on this planet. Let’s face it, when they were throwing objects at one another, and one person got hit by the object, it was funny. Throughout history, theater, television and movies have continued to utilize this most basic concept to create laughter among audiences around the world. So it seems only natural that Dodge Ball enjoyed so much interest many years ago when political correctness did not exist. The times they are a changing, and if institutions don’t adapt with the ever changing society they become extinct. Like the many species of dinosaurs, animals, and reptiles that walked the earth at one time before succumbing to extinction, so must Dodge Ball evolve or continue to be banned from public schools across the country, as it has been during the past 15-20 years.

Please let me start off by saying that I have devoted a large portion of my teaching career to helping Dodge Ball traverse the many traps, pitfalls and philosophical changes that have taken place over the past 30 years in public education. I realized about 18 years ago that the game of Dodge Ball would not make it into the future in the same form as created many years ago. The very name alone, Dodge Ball, can spark riots at local Board of Education meetings in the North East. As a result, I started experimenting with the game many years ago and took some long hard introspection into the game. I was able to create a game that was more exciting, involved many more of the State of New York Standards in Physical Education, allowed all levels of students to participate and most importantly was fun and safe at the same time.
