This book will help the layperson understand depression, the medical that affects the body, mind, and spirit. While the medical community generally acknowledges the role of spirituality in healing. Especially in the psychological arena, it is often treated as other and place on a metaphorical shelf with other treatment options that require an unconventional referral, like acupuncture. PREFACE
It is so important for us to be honest with ourselves, others, and God in reference to where we are. How can we be helped if we don’t admit to who we are, how we are feeling, and where we are? God’s love and mercy are for our freedom. It is not his desire that his children suffer in bondage. Only God can bring true deliverance and healing. Only we can accept it. If we can easily accept the doctor’s report or someone telling us we are sick, why can’t we accept someone telling us we are healed?
I suffered from depression for five years. I don’t quite remember how I became depressed. The pressures of ministry and being faithful to people caused me to become resentful and angry. It was like I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, but I couldn’t get my mind or body to move in that direction. There were times when I wanted to die, but I didn’t want to kill myself (because I would surely go to hell). I didn’t want anyone to kill me because I was afraid of the pain! My God, what a demon I fought!
I am being honest and transparent so that no one feels I did not need a healer. Yes, it sounds crazy, but I was there in that place ministering, laying hands on the sick, and watching them recover. I was sick with depression and had two children. Instead of dying physically, I died to the pleasures of life. Anger grew in my heart. I am passionate about my current relationship with God because of where I’ve been with him. If it wasn’t for God, I would not be where I am now.
I am well acquainted with grief, hopelessness, and loneliness. The devil always draws your attention to what you are lacking rather than to what you
