A Failed Interview
One day, Conan invited his friend Rob to a dinner meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a job opportunity that would open soon in Leeds Inc., a freight company. Conan had also invited two of his friends to the same meeting. They both worked for Leeds. However, since the opportunity was not yet open, the intention was to prep Rob, a referral given by their friend Conan, to ensure he would be best placed to get the job.
When Rob arrived for the meeting, he realized that the men he was to have dinner with that evening were no ordinary folks. He therefore purposed to muse with his words. On arrival, they shared pleasantries and then settled down for a meal. It is customary in the UK, for the host to taste the food first once it is served. However, this was not to be.
Rob was served before everyone else, and then the waiter went on to serve the rest of the patrons. Fearing that his food may get cold, he immediately dug in and started eating. Conan and his colleagues exchanged questioning glances but chose to ignore the mishap. Rob had never been in such a high-level meeting before. Sadly, he did not know how to use a spoon, a fork, and a knife all at the same time. By the time he realized his mistake, it was too late.
Then, his phone rung. This was the proverbial last straw that broke the camel’s back. He received the call with food still his mouth – which is quite unbecoming even by normal standards. Had he looked at the rest of the patrons in the restaurant, he may have noticed that he was talking too loudly. However, he was too immersed into the call to realize the discomfort he was causing everyone. Almost immediately after, the two colleagues invited by Conan quickly excused themselves claiming that they had to attend to some urgent matters.
It only became clear about what had happened when Conan told him the job opportunity that he had earlier mentioned was no longer available. Though not outwardly stated, Rob had failed the interview. Who wants to deal with such indecency anyway?
Etiquette in Prayer
How many times do we fail the interview whenever we go before God in prayer? Although many people take it for granted, our prayers go unanswered for so many avoidable errors. Do we have etiquette, or so to say, when we go before the presence of God? Going before God does not only apply the set times of prayer. It entails all those other times when we need to commune with God or get nourishment from him.
When preparing for an interview, one does a lot of research to know how best to behave before, during, and after an interview. During the interview, you are always very careful on how you seat, what you say, how you respond to questions and so on. That is rarely the case when we go before God. Actually, we barely put any thought into preparation. That right there is the first major reason for unanswered prayer.
People just walk into the presence of God and start marbling every need that comes to mind. Some even chew gum as though God is obliged to listen to them. In most cases, people mutter memorized words in the first five to ten minutes of prayer
