Seeing God Through Hurt - Sandra K. Carter
Foreword
What a moment You have brought me to. Such a freedom I have found in You. You’re the healer who makes all things new. I’m not going back (in Sandra’s case, not looking back), I’m moving ahead. I’m here to declare to you my past is over.
are lyrics from Israel Houghton’s song entitled Moving Forward.
As I listened to the song, I couldn’t help but cry because it defines this pivotal time in Sandra’s life.
As we travel through this journey of life, we encounter various challenges. Some seem unbearable and we often find ourselves asking the question, how can this be apart of God’s plan for my life? Why would God allow something so tragic or so painful? God’s word says the footsteps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord and He knows what it will take to carve us or mold us into His image. Our faith is established as we triumph in the face of adversity.
My heart rejoices as I write about my sister whom I’ve witness her unfolding story of how she’s seeing God through some difficult situations; situations that have allowed her to come to know Him as her personal Savior.
God has given us all a measure of faith! That measure creates a hunger for more of God. Just as the enemy temped Jesus because he knew that Jesus came for a purpose; he desires to derail, detain, distort, deny us of what God has planned for our lives. I pray as you read Sandra’s personal encounter with God, your lives will be empowered and you to will move forward!
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Who is first and head of my life. To Craig my son. Whom I love dearly. Thanks for being moms support and believing that I can do anything even when I did not believe. To my mother (Eunice). You have always instilled in me from a little girl how to be strong and stand on my own two feet. And for having faith that one day I would make something out of myself. Mom I appreciate you for your prayers and encouragement and all that you have done. I love you. To my siblings: Betty, Danny, Ann, & Rita. What would I have done without you all in my life. I know being your baby sister was not easy. Smile. Thanks for putting up with me when I just wanted to be a brat. I love you all so dearly. To every Bishop and Pastor that have given me a word to hold onto my dreams and keep the faith, I thank God for you, and my prayers are with you always. Last but not least, to the best family in the world. The Carter Family
. A family that prays together stays together. This is the family that I’ve known us to be all down through the years. Love to each and everyone. Sheila my cousin, sister and best friend, I always know if no one believe in me you always did, no matter what I did or even how crazy it might seem, I could always count on you. I Love You.
To God the father of my faith, without you nothing is possible. However, with you all things are possible. I’m forever grateful for the things you have done.

Chapter 1: Hurting for a Season
Here’s to the start of a hurtful situation and seeing God, the year of 1987. God had a plan for my life. Sometimes in life we enter into friendships, relationships, marriages, and many other things not knowing what’s in store. People come into our lives for three purposes and that’s: 1. reason, 2. season, or 3. a lifetime. This is where I found myself the year of 1987. In my case, it was a reason, God wanted to teach me some valuable things that I would need in life. The season lasted for 13 years; but it was a season I’ll never forget.
I think there are some key things I need to share before I unfold my story. When you’re dating someone, be sure you can love regardless of the person’s character flaws because we all have them. Never allow friends and family to make decisions for you. Sometimes we make them happy and end-up not happy ourselves, or saying God said something he never really said.
The year of 1987, being new to a big city (Atlanta), I meet my dream guy. The man I thought I would spend an eternity with. I fell in love, but I failed to pray and ask God whether this man was for me. I convinced myself that this was God’s plan and was determined to make the relationship work at any cost. The problem with all of this was the fact that I was never really clear on if God said it.
At this point, I begin to think if this is for a lifetime, and for me, it must work; but unfortunately the other person plans were not the same, maybe just a one night thing. It all boiled down to a 13-1/2 year relationship ending. At this point I was very hurt. A hurt that goes beyond your imagination, during the same time, I had just lost my job. I have a little
