Preface
The desire to pursue a second publishing of this little book for broader circulation, was motivated by the Great Gathering of the three historic black Methodist denominations, AME Church, AME Zion Church and CME Church, that was held in Columbia, South Carolina, March 1-3, 2010. The Great Gathering focused on the plight of black males. It was reported that the three denominations pledged $10 million annually to fund a national initiative aimed at keeping young black males in church and in school, and out of prison. It seems that the leaders of these denominations, and those who gathered with them, met in a spirit of sincerity.
Many times we focus on what we need to do, before we look seriously at who we need to be. Who we are, should precede what we hope to do, if it is to be done in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the purpose and message of this little book. When Jesus explained what it meant to abide in Him, He said, Without Me you can do nothing
(John 15:5).
All of our efforts directed toward helping others to live the abundant life must be grounded in our desire and efforts to answer the call of our Savior Jesus Christ to a life of righteousness and service.
