I watched Nicholas Hudson effortlessly handle the silver Mercedes coupe as we made our way to his Hampstead Heath home from Gatwick Airport. He drove with a finesse I hope I would one day have, his large hands caressing the steering wheel with the same ease they had caressed me for most of the summer holidays three years ago.
