    “Aren’t you going to join me, Kristyne?” He patted the couch cushion next to him, looking over Jaina’s bowed head as if she weren’t there.

    Kristyne cleared her throat and stepped carefully down the short hall and around the other woman, just barely brushing by her mostly nude body in the process. It felt like the slave’s body caused a fire to ignite in her. Not knowing what else to do, Kristyne sat down next to Darren and he draped an arm around her while offering her a small glass of wine. She hadn’t even noticed he had poured for the two of them. How long had she been staring at the slave?

    “If nothing else, she’s very pretty and makes my place a little brighter for it,” Darren commented.

    Kristyne meant to sip her wine, but instead she downed half the contents of the glass. Her eyes went to Jaina and she couldn’t help but think the half-naked woman was uncomfortable kneeling like that. But she didn’t seem perturbed at all. She seemed like she was softly at peace with her situation.
