PROLOGUE
1st May, 2000.
Mr. Victor Ebere, a thirty two year old man of average height with a plump stature, sat outside Clinton maternity clinic with his face buried in his hands. His wife was in the labour room struggling to put to birth for over two hours. Nurses who came out occasionally assured him it will be alright. He felt a lot of pressure on him, more than he felt during her first delivery. He turned to see who had come out of the labour room.
Doctor, how is she doing?
Victor asked hastily.
She is becoming weak, if it keeps going this way we may have to operate on her, just be prayerful.
Said the doctor who was now in his fifty's.
Victor could all but stare at the doctor as he rushed down the hallway. He sat slowly on the chair he had been sitting on. His head shot up back as the doctor dashed past him again into the labour room. His mind kept racing, he felt his bowl tighten. He took a deep breath and said a short prayer to God. When last was it he said a prayer? He felt more relaxed. He shot up from the chair when a nurse came out of the labour room.
How is she?
He asked with desperation. The expression on her face raised his hope.
Your wife has put to birth safely, it’s a healthy boy, and you can go see them now.
She replied.
Victor stood transfixed as he felt a wave of relief moving through his body, releasing all the pressure. He rushed in, to see his wife lying down looking extremely exhausted. She was staring at the baby who was lying beside her on the bed. He knelt next to the bed and pecked his wife, Mrs. Kate, on her cheek. He shifted his gaze to the crying baby, he thanked God for answering his prayers.
He and his wife had decided to name the child, if it was a boy, Nixon Chukwuka Ebere.
CHAPTER ONE
23 September, 2009.
Nixon was speaking to his class teacher, when he let out a sneeze, his body got filled with fear as his gaze met with that of his teacher. He knew people have been killed for sneezing. His teacher grab his collar and shakes him vigorously, he could hear someone calling his name, and he tried to respond but could not hear his voice. His teacher picked a cane and gave him repeated hits on his right arm continuously. The
