About this ebook

When Anasazi, his wife Yzavanya, and his most trusted advisors fled the land of Egypt to leave the native people in peace, they all had made sure that their deaths were very gullible. Anasazi quickly began working on his kingdom: The Kingdom of Anasazi. It took decades to complete the kingdom and, when it was finished, full hope had been restored. They no longer worried about the evil that had made itself at home in the identical world known to us as our own home planet, Earth. Anasazi knew that it was wrong not to worry; he knew that evil would find itself on his doorstep sooner or later. He began making sure that defenses were intact and always at the ready. As it turned out, he was very smart and was able to battle off several little militias that threatened to end life as they knew it. Finally, it seemed as though the war had taken an intermission. Anasazi was able to get on with his life and relax for the first time in a while . . . or so he thought. He was able to have a little boy with his strong and proud wife, Yzavanya. Just when he thought that nothing horrible could ever happen again, evil had found its way. It seemed Anasazi could not elude it, no matter how hard he tried . . .

. . . A few minutes passed by in silence. Nicole did not know what to do. She thought that she should go and find some blueberries for Michael, but she did not want to leave him.

As she was holding Michael, she noticed the scars on his wrists. She recalled the terrible blade-rails that the Prince of Trolls had put on him when they were captured.

Nicole knew that one thing was for sure: Michael would never forget this trip. With all of the things that had happened to the two of them, Michael ended up in the worst condition. It was mostly Nicole’s fault that he was so injured, but he would not have changed anything, especially if it would put Nicole in harm’s way . . .

    Chapter One

    Rude Awakening

Nicole was finally able to triumph her unconsciousness. She forced herself to open her eyes and greet the morning that was pouring through the window.

When Nicole looked around, her heart stopped. Where was she? What had happened? What was going on? One thousand questions ran through her mind. She sat up in her bed. The trauma of the previous night’s events had completely stolen her memory. Slowly, the memories came back to her.

The vision of her parents lying in their beds, eyes milky with the sickness of the Fire Dragon Disease, brought fresh tears to her eyes. She put her chin into the air and thought to herself, No, I will not sit here and cry. There are things that need to be done. I can be strong. Mom and dad would want me to be strong!

She climbed out of the bed and took in her surroundings. Her room was just like any other bedroom back on Earth. It was good-sized and had a nice touch to it that made it look welcome and homey. However, the walls were bare except for a window. Nicole went over to it and looked outside. She had a magnificent view of their new backyard; it was beautiful. There was a swimming pool, trees, bushes, and a little garden that had a variety of strange flowers Nicole had never seen before. The bushes and trees were well kempt, and the pool looked fabulous. There was not even a single leaf littering the whole yard. Also, the yard was covered in green, luscious, bushy grass.

Wow, was all Nicole could whisper.

Nicole spotted something by the garden. When she took a closer look, she realized that it was in fact a lawn gnome. He was really plump and had a huge hat to cover his small, balding head. His cheeks were pink and his nose was red. He had a very peculiar expression on his face. His eyes were a light blue. He was also wearing a green shirt, a black belt, brown shoes, and blue pants. It was hard to tell, him being a statue and all, but Nicole figured out that he was twiddling his thumbs.

She turned from the window and looked around her room again. Her bed was beautiful. The covers had running horses on them. It looked like the horses were running on water because there was a spray coming up from the ground. Her walls were a light shade of blue, and the carpet was a shade of brown. She then observed her desk, nightstand, and closet. They were all the color blue.

I’m definitely going to have to do a painting job in here, she thought to herself. She was trying to make things look better than they appeared.

She noticed that she also had a bookshelf in her room. The bookshelf was packed with books longing to be read. She guessed that Anasazi must have put them there. Nicole was very curious, but she did not have time to go through the books. She did, however, read a few of the titles. One read, The Knight of the Legendary Anasazi. Another presented, The Founding of the Kingdom. One other was labeled, The Priests of the Legendary Anasazi. There were a ton of others, but a thought occurred to Nicole before she could investigate further.

Could these possibly be the real stories about the Legendary Anasazi? Nicole asked herself. But that can’t be, there isn’t a record about the Legendary Anasazi. Or is there? Maybe the Legendary Anasazi passed down the information only to his apprentice and so on, she continued. She wanted to ponder through these books but decided that she had better not. She had to force herself to separate from the bookshelf.

To keep her mind off of the book titles she had read, she walked over to the closet. She was surprised to have found some clothes that had been provided by Anasazi. As she dressed, she thought over all of the events of the previous days. Everything was so strange to her in this new land. She missed the normality of her life back on Earth even though she thought it was dreadfully dull while she was living it then; and it would seem even more dull once she returned, if she did.

Her family had been on their way to visit their grandparents in Egypt when their plane crashed and they were brought to the magical Island of Anasazi by Anasazi himself: the leader of the kingdom. His title was Anasazi. She thought about how her parents would be ok now if they had just made it to Egypt. She could be scouring the pyramids and exploring the tombs of the pharaohs right then and there. She stopped herself at that point, knowing that ‘what-ifs’ would not change her present circumstances.

She quickly went to the bedroom next to hers to wake her brother, Brian. When she arrived at his door, she knocked softly. When there was no reply, Nicole quietly let herself in. Brian’s bedroom was a lot like Nicole’s. He also had a closet, nightstand, and desk. They were all a midnight blue with little white specks on them that resembled stars. Nicole thought that this was the perfect room for him. She thought for a second that maybe Anasazi had been spying on them because he knew so much, but she quickly pushed that thought away. She noticed that Brian did not have a bookshelf full of books, or a window. She also noticed that his room was also slightly smaller. His walls were also blue, but a little bit darker than the sky blue in Nicole’s room. His carpet looked redder than the brown in her room, as well. His bed covers were a midnight blue that had little silver stars on them; they looked, well, magical.

As Nicole silently entered the room, she noticed that Brian was asleep in his bed. She wanted to rush in and snuggle close to him and cry her eyes out. She was so scared. She had to force herself to stay where she was and calm down. When she thought she had controlled herself, she started to tiptoe to his bed. When she finally made it to his bed, she realized that he had streaks down his face. Nicole realized that Brian had been crying in his sleep. His hair was messier than ever. He had obviously been restless. Also, Nicole could see that he had bags under his eyes. This whole incident had torn Brian apart and Nicole did not know if she would be able to make everything better or not.

Brian was the youngest of the family. He was always constantly teased by his sister, Nicole. He was always getting good grades in school and always thought that he knew almost everything. When they came here, Brian did not understand anything. Everything he knew was turned upside down and nothing made sense to him anymore. Brian was an eight year old boy with a strong inspiration that no other boy had. He was as determined as a fully grown man. He had high hopes for his future. He always had rebellious hair like Nicole’s, but he styled it to look just like his father’s. Brian always looked up to him.

Nicole slowly leaned down and was about to wake him up when she hesitated. She did not know how much sleep he had gotten. What if he had not had enough? She quickly tossed that idea out and started to shake him gently; he needed to wake up. They had a big day ahead of both of them.

    Brian . . . she whispered.

Brian jumped so high, Nicole was surprised that he did not hit the ceiling. Nicole quickly calmed him saying, Brian, it’s alright, calm down. It’s me.

Brian turned to her. Tears were already starting to fill his eyes and pour over his eyelids, streaking his face even more.

Was it all a dream? he asked, his voice cracking, knowing the answer already.

No, answered Nicole soothingly. She had to be brave for Brian. He looked so scared and frightened that it broke her heart.

Brian started to cry freely, not able to hold back the tears any longer. Nicole almost started to cry with him, but forced herself not to. It took all of her will power to do it, though.

Why did this have to happen to us? asked Brian despairingly.

    I don’t know, was Nicole’s answer.

What’s going to happen? What are we going to do? I want mom and dad, cried Brian. His voice cracked again with pain and defeat.

I know, replied Nicole. I want mom and dad, too, she confessed. She could not hold back a few tears and they fell onto Brian’s covers.

Nicole took Brian in her arms and they sat there together. Brian was not able to stop crying for a while; he felt so helpless. Nicole had only shed a few tears and forced herself to stop and be strong. After a while, Brian’s tear ducts dried out, but he still cried.

I had such horrible dreams . . . Brian started, . . . about mom and dad, he finished in a sob.

It’s alright. Everything will be ok, Nicole comforted.

How? Brian shouted in anger and despair. Nicole could not answer.

Instead, she just pulled him into another hug and rubbed his back. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Nicole decided that they needed to get up.

At first, Brian refused. He did not want to leave. Nicole knew that they had to get up and get ready so she persisted. Not long after, Nicole succeeded. He was not at all happy about it, though. He wanted to stay in the comfort of his own bed, with his sister by his side.

Once Nicole got Brian to put on his clothes, she led him out of his bedroom and into the hallway bathroom. She was happy that there were toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, and towels that they could use to freshen up.

The bathroom was perfect. There were cabinets for storage, two sinks for sanitizing, a toilet for using, and a bathtub for washing. There were two beautiful mirrors on either side of the counter that were oval shaped and had gold lining. Nicole claimed the sink on the left, while Brian claimed the one on the right. Both the sinks were under a mirror, which made progress go even faster.

Nicole looked into the mirror and could not believe that she was in such a bad condition. Her hair was all messy, her face was streaked with tears, and, when she checked, her breath smelled terrible. She got busy with making herself presentable.

Nicole was a very curious and thoughtful girl. She was twelve years old and had hoped for a more exciting life. She had dark brown, messy, shoulder length hair that was hard to control. She always wished to be able to tame her hair like her mother always tamed her own. Her mother had straight, soft, silky hair that went down her back. Her hair never got tangled. Back in her room on Earth, Nicole always slept with her favorite stuffed animal. His name was Simyn. Simyn was a green jaguar. What no one knew, was that Nicole had stitched a hidden zipper in Simyn’s stomach and stored a lot of important things in him. Such as: money, school ID, diary, and a picture from Disney Land with her brother. She would never admit this to anyone, even if they discovered it. She used to tease Brian constantly. Only, deep down inside, Nicole really loved her brother. She just did not want anyone to know it.

As soon as they were done, Nicole headed for her parents bedroom. Brian reluctantly followed. He did
