Introduction

Welcome to the The Four Great Discoveries of Modern Science That Prove God Exists study guide! It is a series that will change how you think. Many scientists once believed they had no need to believe in God, because the universe has always existed. But this is no longer where the evidence leads.

The first great discovery of modern science is that the universe had a definite beginning and was brought into existence ex nihilo, out of nothing. As a result, historian of science Fred Burnham has written, The God Hypothesis is now a more persuasive and respectable hypothesis than at any time in the last 100 years. This evidence also verifies Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The second great discovery of modern science is that space and time also had a beginning. This discovery cries out for an explanation—a non-materialistic, transcendent cause beyond the universe itself. Christians rightly conclude this is God.

The third great discovery of modern science is that the universe has been fine-tuned for life. Design has been built into the very fabric of the laws and constants of the universe. As physicist Fred Hoyle has written, A commonsense interpretation of the evidence suggests a super intellect has monkeyed with physics and chemistry as well as biology to make life possible.

The fourth great discovery of modern science is the evidence of complex information and design in the first human cell. In the nucleus of each cell is the DNA molecule that stores three billion characters of precise information in digital code. These characters instruct the cell to build complex shaped molecules called proteins that do all the work so that the cell can stay alive. Where did this information originate? The digital code embedded in DNA is compelling evidence of an Intelligent Designer. In this series, we learn from Dr. Stephen C. Meyer, co-founder of the Intelligent Design movement and bestselling author of Signature in the Cell, as we investigate this critical topic.
