Just like in work, sports, business or any other endeavor, preparation is key. Same applies to dating. This chapter is about how to get off to a good start before you even get that date. You want to take care of yourself, your appearance, and get ready to relate to someone. It may mean the difference between being in the zone and landing and not scoring at all.

Self-care and grooming

This might seem unimportant, but trust me, this is not. Women notice details and taking care of yourself will also make you feel good about yourself, which will increase your confidence.

Take a good look at yourself, where do you think you could improve? Where are you unkempt? This is different for everyone, but here are the things you want to focus on:

Hair

We’re going to start at the top - of your head. A good haircut will make you look fresh and presentable. Women love this. Looking like a slob, never got anyone a date, and though some women might look past this a little, it’s not ideal. Find a cut and style that works for you. Get regular cuts and switch it up a bit every time. It doesn’t have to be expensive, you can find an affordable barber and work it into your routine.

Skincare

Easily overlooked or dismissed as feminine, taking care of your skin is just as important for men. Having healthy skin is part of putting your best face forward – literally – and preserving it for the future. You wouldn’t want to drive around with a dirty car, right? So why not take care of your face in the same way. Use a cleanser for men and moisturize throughout the day. Exfoliate if you have a lot of dry skin. If your skin is prone to acne or another condition, see a dermatologist, or ask some questions at the pharmacy about what could help. You’ll feel good about showing off your handsome mug.

Getting regular sleep and staying hydrated are also musts. It may not be possible to get a full 8 hours of sleep every night, but find what works for you to rest your body. Also, drink plenty of water throughout the day to regulate your body. This is great for your skin, your organs, energy levels, and breath!

Your breath. If you plan on getting kissed, make sure you brush and floss your teeth daily, use mouthwash if necessary and keep some mints and gum on hand for women when that special moment arrives.

Grooming

Facial Hair

If you have a beard, keep it trimmed and looking good. Even if it’s long, make sure it looks well kept. Use beard oil to soften the whiskers. If you have nose hair, protruding ear hair or any other stray hairs, take care of that too, with tweezers, wax, etc.

Hygiene and fragrance

Finishing touches include taking regular showers and, of course, deodorant. Some men are not aware that they have body odor. Do yourself a favor and find out. Use a reliable deodorant. You like being with a sweet smelling woman, she also wants to be with someone who smells good and clean. If you like cologne and want to add that, it’s a great idea. Too much fragrance is repellant though. Find out from a trusted friend who will give you an honest answer if you’re not sure if you’re wearing too much. You want the women around you to be able to breathe freely! Scent is a personal thing, and if you don’t have a cologne that you love, it will take some trial and error to find one that is just right for you. Check out your local department store and ask to sample what they have and find one that suits you.

Looking good varies depending on taste and style, and women are attracted to men who rock all sorts of styles. You’re looking for a woman who likes you for you, so keep it real. The key here is to express yourself while looking like you care. You put some thought into your outfit. Select clothes that look good on you and that fit well on your body. You may want
