Somewhere In The Beginning Of The Year
“So what’s in store for me?????” Michelle Anderson asked Madame Marie.
“Let me concentrate dear,” Madame Marie was inspecting the palm of Michelle’s
right hand.
Michelle Anderson was a very pretty short-haired redhead, with emerald green
eyes and very pale complexion. And she stood about 5 foot 5. She had often been
mistaken for Scottish or Irish by many of her classmates back at Riverville High.
Right now she was at a fortune teller’s, having her palm read.
“Maybe I’ll have a nice big house!!! Maybe even marry someone rich!!
Someone tall!! Someone handsome!! Maybe someone from Spain or Italy!!!”Michelle
flattered herself with lots of wishful thoughts.
Madame Marie looked very serious. She was a Jamaican lady who looked like she
was in her fifties.
“Oh my!! This is not good!!! Not good at all!!!” Madame Marie was worried.
“Huh!!! What do you mean??” Michelle started to panic. She hated hearing bad
news.
Madame Marie looked from Michelle’s palm to Michelle’s worried face.
“My child!!!! It was a good thing that you came to see me of all days!!!!” Marie
was relieved.
“What?? What do you mean??? You’re kind of scaring me!!!” Michelle cried.
“Sometimes the spirits work in mysterious ways!! Perhaps it was they who will you
to come see me today!!” Marie was serious.
Michelle wanted to retract her hand from the fortune teller but her instincts made her
felt that her life depended on what Madame Marie had to say.“So are you going to tell me what it is???” she asked.
“You are in grave danger my child!!!” Marie spoke.
“Danger??? What kind of danger???” Michelle had to know.
“Your life is at stake!! But not to worry!! It is not today!! Not even tomorrow!!!”
Marie assured.
Michelle was annoyed.
Not today?? Not tomorrow?? So when??, Michelle thought.
Michelle wanted to cut to the chase.
“Why is my life in danger???” Michelle asked.
Madame Marie gazed back at her right palm.
Marie even moved the tip of her right hand’s pointing finger all over the hand-lines
on Michelle’s palm, normally used by spiritual experts to tell someone how long their life
expectancy was or how many children they were going to have in life.
Madame Marie looked back at Michelle’s very worried face.
“All I can tell you is that from now on you must be on your guard!!!!” Marie
cautioned.
“Ok!! I’ll do that!!!” Michelle was trying to be analytical.
She was on the verge of being sceptical about Madame Marie.
“And one other thing!!!” Madame Marie warned.
“And what is that????” Michelle asked.
“Beware of who your friends are!!! Not all of them who are what they seem!!!”
Madame Marie warned. “A wolf in sheep’s clothing!!!!”
Her life was at stake because of who she hung out with.
“Thanks!!!! I’ll remember that!!!!” Michelle said.
Madame Marie then moved her fingers by Michelle’s veins, squeezing it and pulling
the girl’s upper body by her right hand. Pulling Michelle much closer to her over the table.

    Chapter 1

    Seven Months Later

    Summer Holidays

I just love carnivals, don’t you!!!! Michelle asked her best friend Karen Fleming.

Karen was actually just one of her best friends.

Well it’s the summer and school’s out!!!! Karen cheered.

Karen Fleming was a redhead just like Michelle, except that she was tall, skinny, had sky blue eyes and her hair was long enough to go below her neck.

Do we have to talk about school while we’re having fun!!! broke out Cassandra Cho.

Let’s ride at the Ferris Wheel!!! Jessica Snow suggested.

Cassandra Cho was third-generation Chinese-Brit, who also happened to be dressed up like a punk with dyed pink hair and wore a black jacket.

Jessica Snow was tall, with a nice round face, with brown hair and brown eyes and people told her that she looked like the famous British singer Sophie Ellis Baxter.

The carnival was at Fox Street Woods. It was only there for eight days, before it was going to move on.  It was crowded with townspeople, who were either trying their luck with rubber rifles trying to shoot at moving plastic ducks or going onto roller coaster rides, getting their hearts beating much faster from the thrill.

It was also in the middle of the afternoon.

Hey look over there!!! Anyone want cotton candy???? Karen pointed at the booth that served cotton candy.

Ok let’s go there!!! Jessica said.

All four girls went to the cotton candy booth but only Karen and Cassandra bought cotton candies for themselves.

Those things are quite fattening!!! Jessica said to the other two, as they kept on walking amongst the crowd of people.

Lighten up Jess!!! Let them enjoy it while it lasts!!! Michelle sided with the other two.

It is obvious that you don’t care for their long-term health!!! Jessica criticised Michelle.

Karen and Cassandra were biting out of their cotton candies.

    That was the problem.

All four of them were best friends.

    And they sometimes argued.

Recently they had been squabbling over their differences.

Jessica was the most argumentative of them all.
