Grantham and its Works are known far and near, for the productions of R. HORNSBY AND SONS LIMITED are to be found throughout the civilised world, and the name of HORNSBY is accepted everywhere as a guarantee of perfection in design and excellence in manufacture.

R. Hornsby & Sons are using the experience of over 70 years, which has taught them not only what the farmer wants, but also how best to meet that want.

MEMORIAL ERECTED IN THE CEMETERY AT BRUSSELS TO THE SOLDIERS WHO FELL AT WATERLOO, 1815.

It was in the year 1815 that Mr. R. HORNSBY, then 25 years of age, came to the town, and commenced the manufacture of Agricultural Machinery and Implements, of course on a small scale.

THE SPITTLEGATE IRON WORKS IN 1834.

By 1834 the Works had grown to what was then considered fair proportions, but which now seem very small, as the annexed illustration (a reproduction of the earliest view extant) will show.

To-day the Works cover nearly Seventeen Acres, and find employment for an average of 1,450 hands, whilst an Experimental Farm close by serves for the testing of improved or newly designed Machines and Implements before they are introduced to the public.

The present aspect of the Works, connected with the main line of the Great Northern Railway, and with every facility for the convenient receiving of material, and forwarding of Finished Goods to all parts of the world, will be seen from the above view.
