My favorite Aunt, Roz Menter with I (Marc Shamus) at my birthday party in 1987

I have watched my aunt with curiosity throughout all of my life. I have seen her stimulate ideas in her head and bring them to life. I’ve witnessed her act as a prophet with magnetically charged words appearing out of thin air, then use these words to win innumerable sweepstake contests.

The same type of creativity is also the driving force behind her song I WOULD IF I COULD whose public release is one of her biggest lifelong dreams. I wanted to help her make this dream a reality, so I took it upon myself to work on this project by assisting her in making this big dream come true.

My original idea was to create a CD (compact disc) whereas the self-titled song "I WOULD IF I COULD" would be the first track. I knew this by itself would not be complete and there would need to be support content, yet what would be ideal to compliment her special song?

A fabulous idea struck me which was a match made in heaven. I thought that interviewing my aunt would shed some light on her life and the background behind this song. It would also make the CD complete and at the same time full of rich niche related details that would further enhance the qualities in her song.

After I interviewed her and was working on the editing of the audio, I realized that the Lyrics and Sheet music that went along with her song would not be able to accompany the CD in a manner suitable to showcase them appropriately. So thus the idea to expand from just a CD to that of having this Book was spawned.

I transcribed the audio from the interview and collaborated with my Aunt Roz and my mother (Phyllis Shamus) to discuss acquiring some pictures that may support some of the interview and other background stories. Pictures are magical in bringing back to life emotions, memories and qualities from a moment in time.

I feel satisfied that anyone will be able to simultaneously buy the CD to listen to her song and interview, and buy this book to view images, read the sheet music as well as the interview. Who knows, you may even be hearing this book on Audible with a voice reading this amazing story to you too. 

It has been super important for me to share Roz Menter’s song and story with other people. The hope was they could enjoy her patience, tenacity and will to reach her dream no matter what. I hope her story motivates you to live your life with gusto and go after your dreams with all your heart too.
