    Introduction

    Dear Reader:

The world as we know it is changing. It is transforming. There is a new kind of order emerging in the world, a new set of rules to live by. It is an order of a different level, a higher order. It is an order that was not, could not, have been here before. The world seems to be trying to make a giant leap–an evolutionary leap–to a new stage of human development. Humankind is pulling itself up by the bootstraps. We are, all of us together, reaching toward our next level of destiny.

Perhaps without even knowing it, you are already sharing in the act of transforming yourself and your world.

You can see the signs all around you. Change is everywhere, filling the senses with the sights and sounds of a world on the move. The world is waking up. It is shaking off the dust of ages past and stretching out in new directions.  There are signs of progress, signs of chaos. Old ways, old ideas are being shed; new forms of communication, new goals, new ideals are being embraced. Humankind is trying out new ideas, changing minds and mindsets like changing clothes. As the world gets smaller and problems get larger, we are finding that many of the old ways simply do not work anymore.

Transformation is taking place, and it is both an inward and an outward transformation, as people reach for answers to old, old questions.  Who am I?  Why do I exist?  Where is my place in the world?  What kind of world do I want to live in?  And what can I do to help create the world that I envision?

Answering these questions, living these questions, discovering and living the answers – that is what transformation is all about.

This book is about transformation, personal transformation in particular. It is about the creation of a new self, an expanded self, awakened to all you can be when you use the tools available to you–the tools that lie dormant within your own mind–and when you follow the rules that govern them.

As you know, there is a certain order to the universe, a certain plan. And wherever there is order, there are rules that are being followed.  Just as Nature follows the rules, so must you, if you wish to create order in your own life.

Many people think that things just happen. They live their lives feeling like tumbleweeds, always being tossed about on the winds of change. Things do change. But do they just happen? Or is there an order and a plan to our lives, also? If so, can we find out what this plan is?  For, perhaps if we know the plan, we can adjust to it, we can align ourselves to the plan, and work with it, not against it.  Maybe if we play by the rules, our lives will go smoother. And maybe, just maybe, if we know what the rules are, we can start to use the rules to control our own lives.

This book will teach you those rules, and also the tools that you can use to make the rules work for you.

I have spent the last thirty years studying the mind and how it works. I have studied psychology, science and the old esoteric literature. I am a practicing a psychotherapist and a spiritual teacher. I have drawn from the wisdom of my students to further my own learning, and have found that for most beginners on the spiritual path, there is not enough simple, explicit instruction on how to begin using their own hidden potential, their inner spiritual source–their minds.

In this book I explain in clear, simple language how to use intuition, meditation, positive thinking, affirmations, dreams and visualizations to assist you in your everyday life, to give you more contact with your inner self, your source of greatest wisdom and best advice.

It is my hope that by learning the rules and using these tools that you will begin the process of personal transformation, of spiritual growth. For inherent within these rules and tools is the knowledge that will start you on that path toward greater understanding of yourself and others, toward greater self-love and greater love for others, toward a better understanding of the meaning of life and your place in it. I hope you find these rules and tools useful. I hope you enjoy this journey. It is only the beginning...

    Chapter 1

    Transformation: What’s It all About?

Transformation is taking place at an unprecedented rate today. Transformation– change, real life altering change–is happening in the lives of individuals and in the world as a whole.

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, Who am I really? How does my life fit into the big scheme of things? What is my purpose in life? Perhaps you, too, find yourself among the thousands of ordinary citizens who more and more lately have begun to contemplate these questions. Do you feel that just getting by isn't enough anymore? Do you long to have a special place in the world, to really matter? Do you feel a need to connect with something beyond yourself?

Many people today are seekers. They seem to have a need to pinpoint their own uniqueness, to discover their own special gift. People are searching for a sense of peace within themselves, a peace that comes from connecting with oneself, and with something more than oneself.

Many people are finding that they don't find the answers to their questions in the usual places. The answers aren't found by anesthetizing one's pain with alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or food. Friends, co-workers, even spouses don't have the answers. Sooner or later, perhaps intuitively, many people come to the realization that the answers they seek can't be found out there at all. The answers can only be found by looking within. In this way, slowly, perhaps reluctantly, many of us begin to journey down the long road of transformation.

Transformation takes place from the inside out. When you least expect it, when you have stopped looking for ways to change your life, when you have stopped trying to force outward changes, you may realize that you have begun to change inside. You have begun to change the thinking patterns that held you hostage. You have begun to take charge of your mind, and with that, ultimately, your life.

Transformation cannot be forced. It is a flow, an easy, often gradual unfolding. It starts with an attitude shift, a difference in perception, but it goes on to change the entire fabric of your life, not just the outward frills. Transformation is more than change. It is a path, a spiritual journey, starting with your self, and ending with your destiny.

The seeking involved in transformation seems to come from an innate urge. We seem to have an innate tendency to reach out for answers, and to eventually look inward to find them. You cannot force transformation to happen, but you can learn to work with your own natural tendency toward spiritual evolvement. You can learn how to facilitate its flow, and encourage its unfolding.

But Do I Really Have to Change? This is the question that may come to mind when you first approach the idea of transformation. Even though your life may not be a bowl of cherries, somehow it just seems easier to leave it alone, not to mess with it. Perhaps you feel you're too old to change, too tired, too unmotivated. But think for a moment about how much energy you use in maintaining the status quo.

Each of us has at least some unresolved conflicts. These conflicts take the shape of doubts, fears, old patterns of thinking that make us react in ways that we might not otherwise react in situations every day of our lives. Old emotional garbage can hold us back from getting what we want. It can keep us from being all that we can be. It can foil our success, undermine our self–esteem. And worse yet, it can make us physically ill, even kill us.

The mind/body connection is real. Its
